host Portland Pirates 6-5 on Sunday in American Hockey League action. John
Albert scored twice for the IceCaps (32-19-4), who trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes
of play, and Will ONeill, Kael Mouillierat, Blair Riley and Jerome Samson had a

Brown, Brandon MacMillan and Brandon Yip each scored once and Andy Miele chipped
in with three assists. Tyler Beskorowany made 31 saves in his season debut for
St. Johns. Portlands Mark Visentine allowed five goals on 35 shots and was
pulled at 10:35 of the third period. Louis Domingue stopped 6-of-7 shots in
relief, taking the loss. With St. Johns trailing after two periods, Albert
scored a shorthanded goal 16 seconds into the third to make it 3-2 for Portland.
Alberts goal was the first of five straight for the IceCaps. Riley tied the game
at 6:36, ONeill and Samson scored less than two minutes apart to make it 5-3 and
Mouillierat scored the eventual winner at 18:27. With their goalie pulled, Brown
and Rieder both scored in the final minute of regulation to make it a one-goal
game. St. Johns went 2 for 3 on the power play. Portland went 2 for 6.

.Y. - A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press reliever
Carlos Marmol and the Miami Marlins have agreed to a $1. OTTAWA -- The Ottawa
Senators were on the verge of a massive comeback, only to fall short in
overtime. After overcoming a three-goal deficit the Senators forced the game to
overtime only to watch it slip away as Seth Jones scored the winner 3:49 into
the extra period as the Nashville Predators defeated the Senators 4-3 Monday
night. Ryan Ellis broke in alone on goaltender Robin Lehner and Jones was there
to bang home the loose puck. "It was a tough one to slip away and we almost gave
it away," said Jones. "We need all the points we can get right now so it was
nice to pull away with two." The win allowed the Predators (27-28-10) to snap a
four-game losing streak. The Senators say they take solace in earning the single
point, but at the same time know they need to be better if they hope to stay in
the playoff race. "The way the game was looking going into the third period it
looked pretty bleak for us to get that one point so well take the positive,"
said Ottawas Marc Methot. "It would have been nice to get two, but were happy
with the resiliency we showed at the end." Nick Spaling, Craig Smith and
Eric Nystrom also scored for Nashville. Pekka Rinne faced 37 shots. This was
Rinnes first victory in four starts since returning from injury. Jared Cowen,
Methot and Jason Spezza scored for the Senators (28-25-12). Craig Anderson
allowed three goals on 29 shots before leaving the game early in the third.
Lehner faced 13 shots in relief. Senators coach Paul MacLean said he didnt have
an immediate update on Anderson, but didnt believe it was anything serious.
Holding a 3-0 lead the Predators nearly let the game slip away in the third as
the Senators scored twice in a span of 2:39. "I thought we played real well,
especially the first two periods," said Nashvilles Mike Fisher. "We thought we
were the better team, but then gave them a little life in the third and the
crowd came alive for them and before you knew it, it was 3-3." Spezza tied the
game with 67 seconds remaining in regulation. The newly acquired Ales Hemsky,
who had three assists, found Spezza at the side of the net and the Senators
captain banged it in. "We knew we had to make a push in the third and it showed
a lot of character for us to get a pointt," said Spezza.
Shirt Rode Duivels
Goedkoop. . "We kept coming and coming, but it sure would have been
nice to pull that one out in overtime." The comeback started midway through the
third, as Cowen was able to find the puck through traffic in front and push it
past Rinne. Spezza picked up his second assist of the night as he found a
surging Methot to make it a 3-2 game at the halfway mark. The Predators three
unanswered second period goals appeared to make this game look all but decided.
"We normally do a better job of locking these games down," said Predators head
coach Barry Trotz. Anderson could hardly be blamed for any of the goals as he
was the victim of two redirections and a giveaway. Andersons night came to an
end at 4:10 of the third after he was hit in the head by teammate
Milan Michalek. On the first goal Spaling tipped a Michael Del Zotto point shot
at the eight-minute mark of the second. Less than two minutes later Colin Wilson
won the faceoff in the Senators end and got the puck to Jones on the point. The
blue liner then passed it to Mattias Ekholm, who took a shot that Smith
re-directed in front. The Predators made it 3-0 on Nystroms unassisted goal.
Methot went to clear the puck and it landed directly on Nystroms stick for the
easy finish on Anderson. A scoreless first period was highlighted by the damage
inflicted by Shea Webers powerful shot. First, Anderson dropped to the ice after
taking a Weber shot in the shoulder and minutes later Cody Ceci took a shot to
the head that left him with a lacerated right ear. He did not return to the
game. "You never want to see anyone go down like that," said Weber. "Hopefully
hes doing all right because thats nothing you ever want to see." Following the
game Ceci tweeted, "Thanks for all your concerns just a cut and a little shaken
up should be back at it soon enough." Notes: The Senators were without LW
Clarke MacArthur as he has a hand injury, but is expected to return for

TORONTO -- R.
Manchester United Jersey Adidas .A. Dickey
earned an American League Gold Glove on Tuesday to become the first Toronto Blue
Jays pitcher to win the award. Dickey had a 14-13 record with a 4.21 earned-run
average and 177 strikeouts in his first season in Toronto. He had only two
errors in his 224.2 innings of play, qualifying him for the award as best
fielder at his position for the first time in his career. The 39-year-old
knuckleballer is the ninth Blue Jay to win a Gold Glove and the first since
outfielder Vernon Wells in 2006. St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina won
his sixth straight Gold Glove award Tuesday, making him one of four players in
the World Series rewarded for superior defence this season. Red Sox second
baseman Dustin Pedroia and right fielder Shane Victorino also were honoured,
along with Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. Boston has a 3-2 edge over St.
Louis going into Game 6 on Wednesday night. Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado
became the first rookie to win a Gold Glove since Seattle outfielder
Ichiro Suzuki in 2001. Atlanta shortstop Andrelton Simmons and Baltimore third
baseman Manny Machado also were among the eight first-time recipients. "Its
pretty awesome," Simmons said in a brief interview on ESPN during the awards
show. The Orioles and Royals had three winners apiece, tied for the most of any
team. Baltimore finished with the fewest errors in the majors (54) and set a big
league record with a .991 fielding percentage. Kansas City left fielder
Alex Gordon took his third Gold Glove in a row, while first baseman Eric Hosmer
and catcher Salvador Perez each received their first. "Ive got a trophy case
back in Lincoln, (Neb.), so this one wont be the chip-and-dip tray. This one
will actually go up in the trophy case," Gordon said. "It means a lot. The first
one was pretty special, just because its the first one, but to be able to share
it with two teammates makes this one the best one of all." Baltimore shortstop
J.J. Hardy and centre fielder Adam Jones were repeat winners, as was Rockies
left fielder Carlos Gonzalez. His 22-year-old teammate, Arenado, became the 10th
rookie to win. "Im still kind of in shock. I still cant believe it," he said on
ESPN. Center fielder Carlos Gomez became the first Gold Glove winner for
Milwaukee since shortstop Robin Yount in 1982, ending the longest drought for
any team in the 57-year history of the award. Toronto knuckleballer R.A. Dickey
was the winner among American League pitchers. Arizonas Gerardo Parra won in
right field after taking the National League honours in left two years ago.
Other recipients in the NL were Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips, his
fourth, and Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, his first. "Pretty
cool," said Goldschmidt, who also won the Hank Aaron Award as the NLs top hitter
this season. Now, a Gold Glove for Goldschmidt as well. Fits like a ... well ...
you know. "Its a huge honour to get recognized," he said. "Theres so many great
players around the league." Since 1957, Rawlings has presented Gold Gloves to
the finest fielders at their positions. Managers and coaches vote for players in
their league but cannot choose their own guys. For the first time this year,
Rawlings added a sabermetric element to the balloting. The SABR Defensive Index
made up about 25 per cent of the process. "Wow, hard work pays off," Phillips
said. "I take pride in my defence and try to go out there to make the pitching
staff feel comfortable while theyre on the mound. I like being the pitchers best
friend. People overlook defence these days." Six teams accounted for 14 of the
18 winners. Only two clubs had multiple winners last season, when the Orioles
claimed three and the New York Yankees two. "To win three Gold Gloves this year
was very impressive I think for our team, for our organization," Royals manager
Ned Yost said. "These young men who won these Gold Gloves have worked their
tails off defensively, and the thing that impresses me so much is I think these
kids are only going to get better and better defensively." Rawlings announced
three finalists at each position last week. Tampa Bays entire infield was
picked, but none of those four players won. Baltimore led all teams with six
finalists, including first baseman Chris Davis, right fielder Nick Markakis and
catcher Matt Wieters. At perhaps the most competitive spot, the 21-year-old
Machado supplanted Texas Adrian Beltre and Tampa Bays Evan Longoria, who
combined to win the previous six AL Gold Gloves at third base. Machado became
the first Orioles third baseman to win since Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson took
the last of his 16 straight in 1975.

earn a raise of £28,000 per week over his current salary. Defoe has been held
goalless in eight Barclays Premier League appearances with Spurs this season,
but has registered two goals in two League Cup games as well as seven goals in

FLORENCE, Italy -- United States-born forward Giuseppe Rossi was left off Italys
final 23-man squad for the World Cup on Sunday.
http://www.hockeycanadiensfanshop.com/Doug-Harvey-Jersey/
. Coach Cesare Prandelli apparently judged that Rossi hadnt fully recovered from
his latest right knee injury in January. It was likely a difficult decision
since Rossi has always been one of Prandellis favourite players. Napoli forward
Lorenzo Insigne was selected instead. Rossi played 71 minutes in Italys 0-0 draw
with Ireland on Saturday but failed to make much of an impact. Rossi was also
one of the final cuts by then-coach Marcello Lippi in 2010, although Lippi said
last week that he regretted that decision. Now, Rossi will have to wait until
2018 -- when hell be 31 -- for a chance to play in the World Cup. Also cut from
Prandellis 30-man preliminary squad were: forward Mattia Destro; Brazilian-born
midfielder Romulo, who has been dealing with a muscle problem; and fullbacks
Manuel Pasqual and Christian Maggio. Key midfielder Riccardo Montolivo was ruled
out after breaking the tibia bone in his left leg against Ireland. Center back
Andrea Ranocchia was selected as a 24th man to go to Brazil as a possible
replacement for Andrea Barzagli, who has been fighting injury all season. Rossi
was born in New Jersey to Italian parents and was offered a chance to play for
the United States at an early age but he has always said it was his dream to
play for the Azzurri. Rossi led Serie A with 14 goals in 17 matches with
Fiorentina until he re-injured his right knee in January, sidelining him for
four months. He returned a month ago but has not played a full 90 minutes since
coming back and occasionally appeared hesitant against Ireland. Rossi initially
tore his right anterior cruciate ligament during a match with Villarreal against
Real Madrid in October 2011 and needed three operations before returning with
Fiorentina in May 2013. Insigne scored twice when his Napoli club beat Rossis
Fiorentina 3-1 in the Italian Cup a month ago. That was Rossis first match back.
Besides sure starter Mario Balotelli, Antonio Cassano and Torino strike partners
Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci were also chosen up front. Cassano made the
squad following a resurgent season with Parma. After two years away from the
national team, his appearance against Ireland was his first since the 2012
European Championship final. Immobile led Serie A with 22 goals in 33
appearances and Cerci is a reliable winger. Torino fullback Matteo Darmian, who
made his Italy debut against Ireland and can play on either the right or the
left, was also included, along with Argentine-born centre back Gabriel Paletta.
In midfield, the newcomers are Paris Saint-Germains Marco Verratti and Parmas
Marco Parolo. Verratti, in particular, shined against Ireland and is considered
an eventual replacement for Andrea Pirlo. Four-time champion Italy opens its
World Cup campaign against England in Group D on June 14 then faces Costa Rica
on June 20 and Uruguay on June 24. The Azzurri play Luxembourg in Perugia on
Wednesday then fly out to Brazil a day later. ------ Italy: Goalkeepers:

FIFPro suggested that the governing body "considers the demands of TV companies

a healthy scratch. The veteran center has five goals with one assist in eight
games since after scoring twice through his first 17. He scored his first
power-play goal Saturday but was also a minus-3. Its a lot more than what I had
two weeks ago, Lecavalier told the teams official website of being back in the
lineup regularly. The more you are out there, the more comfortable you are, the
more you feel the puck. Lecavalier has six points in his last four meetings with
Ottawa (16-15-7), assisting on a goal by Wayne Simmonds in a 5-2 win in the most
recent home matchup Nov. 19, 2013. Giroux had a goal in that meeting, giving him
eight points in 10 matchups at Wells Fargo Center. Its unclear if hell be
available for this one after his stretch of 168 consecutive games played ended
Saturday due to a cut on the back of his left leg by a skate during Fridays 2-1
loss at Carolina. Having Giroux on the ice for this four-game homestand could
provide a spark since hes compiled 22 of his 30 points there. The venue hasnt
mattered for Jakub Voracek as he leads the league with 48 points. Hes collected
12 in 13 career games against the Senators, scoring four goals while setting up
another in the last four. Ottawa has dropped four of six after squandering a
pair of leads to lose 4-2 to Tampa Bay on Sunday. Frustration showed in the
third period as the Senators were whistled for five penalties, including a
double-minor on captain Erik Karlsson in the final minutes. A lot of it comes
from frustration, coach Dave Cameron told the teams official website. I think we
allowed our tiredness and fatigue to become frustration. I can guarantee you
that of the nine penalties, there were a few questionable ones. So how many did
we actually take is somewhere in between. But at the end of the day you get
pegged for nine so you take nine. Karlsson leads Ottawa with 27 points and has
four in his last three visits to Philadelphia. Kyle Turris has three goals in
his last four games against the Flyers, and hes scored in each of the last two
overall while adding an assist Sunday.

Kevin Stadler teed off just after breakfast and finished right before dinner. It
took him nearly 11 hours to complete a 7-under 64 at Liberty National, his
lowest score on the PGA Tour since the first week of February. And he still isnt
guaranteed to be the first-round leader at The Barclays. The FedEx Cup playoffs
got off to a soggy start Thursday with two rain delays that lasted six hours. It
was a start-again, stop-again day on the bank of the Hudson River, but that
didnt stop Stadler. He ran off three birdies early, then returned from the
second delay and threw in four more birdies on a soft golf course. Asked if it
was difficult to stay mentally prepared, Stadler replied, "Im never really
mentally prepared. Same as usual. It was all good." Tiger Woods, the No. 1
player in the world and in this playoff series, came out of the first delay by
missing a short birdie putt on the par-5 13th and then rolling in three straight
birdies to get into the mix. He cooled slightly after the slightly longer second
delay, and failed to make birdie on any of the par 5s in his round of 67.
Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., also had a 67. Woods didnt mind the long day.
He was more concerned about the next long day on the horizon. Only the top half
of the draw finished the round. The later starters -- Ben Crane played only two
holes -- were to resume the round Friday morning and then go straight to the
second round. That left the top half facing extra holes on Saturday to get the
tournament caught up. "Were done," Woods said. "It was a long day, and tomorrow
will be a short one. And then Saturday will be pretty much a marathon." British
Open champion Phil Mickelson and Masters champion Adam Scott were among those
who didnt finish. PGA champion Jason Dufner had a 71, while U.S. Open champion
Justin Rose recovered from a double bogey on the par-5 13th for a 68.
David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., opened with a 73. Camilo Villegas, who started
the season with conditional status and is No. 110 in the FedEx Cup standings,
ran off four straight birdies around the turn and was the only player to reach 8
under -- for now -- until back-to-back bogeys late in his round. He had a 65,
along with Henrik Stenson and Ryan Palmer. "Three breakfasts, three warm-ups,
two lunches and a bunch of birdies, which is good," Villegas said. Jason Day and
Matt Kuchar shot 66. Day made two bogeys that kept a good round from getting
away from him. His ball dropped over the rocks and into the water to the left of
the fifth green, and he got up-and-down from there. On his closing hole, the
par-4 ninth, his drive went deep into the bushes and forced him to take a
penalty drop.
Wholesale Jerseys. . He got onto the green
and made another bogey. The rain allowed for some low scoring at Liberty
National, which hosted The Barclays in 2009 and produced a winning score of 9
under. The course also went through significant changes to soften some of the
landing zones and green complexes. Plus, there is virtually no rough. Nothing
allows for low scoring quite like soft conditions, however. Nearly half of those
who finished their rounds shot in the 60s. That group might have included
Rory McIlroy, except for a few loose swings. He had three double bogeys and
still managed a 71. McIlroy blasted out of a bunker and over the 15th green. His
approach found the water on No. 5. And his tee shot on the ninth took a wicked
kick off the cart path, over the bushes and a fence and out-of-bounds. "The rest
of it was actually pretty good," he said. Stadler needed a good start. He hasnt
had a top 10 since New Orleans in late April, and he started these playoffs at
No. 87. Only the top 100 advance to the second tournament next week outside
Boston, and the top 70 from there go on to the third event in Chicago. "Ive had
a pretty lousy summer, but really started hitting the ball a lot better a couple
of weeks ago and was looking forward to playing some golf again here recently,"
he said. "Finally got something out of it today." Stadler has not played in any
of the World Golf Championship and only one of the majors -- the PGA
Championship, where he missed the cut -- so this event feels like a big one. It
also happens to have arguably the strongest and deepest field on the PGA Tour,
particularly since everyone earned a spot based on this years play. "All those
guys are here this week, so in that regard, its pretty cool," he said. "But its
just another week." Stenson last year started the FedEx Cup playoffs at No. 117
and was gone after one week. He is one of the hottest players in golf, having
been runner-up at the British Open, the Bridgestone Invitational and he was
third at the PGA Championship. He is No. 9 in the standings this year, and his
65 on a long Thursday showed why. "I came in from Europe on Monday night, so Im
a bit jet-lagged and I only saw the course once," Stenson said. "Im very pleased
with the way I played out there and took advantage of some good shots. And it
was a little bit of a shaky finish." He missed a short par putt on the par-5
eighth hole and had to make a 6-footer for par on the last. "Got some good
practice of night golf, because thats what we are going to have tomorrow night
when we start our second round, I guess," he said.

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Teddy Bridgewater threw for 397 yards and four
touchdowns, leading eighth-ranked Louisville to an easy 44-7 victory over
Eastern Kentucky.
Justin Smoak Blue Jays Jersey . Bridgewater
completed 23-of-32 passes this week, following up his 23-of-28, 355-yard effort
last Sunday in a 49-7 romp over Ohio. The Heisman candidate has nine TD passes
in his first two games for the Cardinals (2-0), who will take a slight step up
in competition next week with a visit to Kentucky. "I played average,"
Bridgewater said. "I left a couple of incompletions on the field. These are all
fundamental things, and I am still getting better so Ill learn from that."
DeVante Parker caught five passes for 134 yards with two touchdowns, while
Damian Copeland and Gerald Christian hauled in scoring passes from Bridgewater.
Jared McClain threw a TD pass for Eastern Kentucky (1-1), an FCS school from the
Ohio Valley Conference which had beaten Robert Morris in its opener. "We played
a top-10 football team, and they showed it," McClain said. "They had a great
defense and offensively we put ourselves behind the chains." Bridgewater was
perfect on five throws for 59 yards during Louisvilles first series, finishing
the 9-play, 75-yard set with an 8-yard TD toss to Copeland. The Cardinals then
went three-and-out, but marched 72 yards in four plays for another score with
their ensuing touch. Bridgewater found Ryan Hubbell for 37 yards on the first
play and completed the quick march with a 19-yard scoring strike to Parker.
Bridgewater had the Louisville offense inside the EKU 20 again early in the
second, but misfired on a third-down pass and John Wallace kicked a 35-yard
field goal for a 17-0 cushion with just over 10 minutes left in the half. A
Calvin Pryor interception near midfield about a minute later led to a Senorise
Perry 5-yard touchdown run and Pryor returned a J.J. Jude fumble 22 yards to set
up a 39-yard Wallace field goal for a 27-0 advantage. Wallace started the
scoring in the third quarter with a 22-yard kick and Bridgewater finished
Louisvilles next series with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Christian for a
37-point bulge. Eastern Kentucky finally reached the end zone early in the
fourth quarter on a 15-yard connection from McClain to Devin Borders, but
Bridgewater went back out and directed a 76-yard series that ended with a
42-yard TD pass to Parker. Game Notes Louisville piled up 475 yards of total
offense and held Eastern Kentucky to just 206 yards ... McClain finished with 85
yards passing and led the Colonels with 27 yards on 11 carries ... The Cardinals
improved to 18-8-1 all-time against Eastern Kentucky and have won 10 of the last
11 meetings.

and hes playing too well to call it quits now. Duncan has decided to exercise
the option on his contract for 2014-15 and will return next season, a person
with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. As much as
Kevin Streelman enjoys the back nine at TPC River Highlands,, even he didnt
think he what he accomplished Sunday was possible. Streelman birdied the last
seven holes to win the Travelers Championship by a stroke, shooting his second
straight 6-under 64 to finish at 15-under 265. "Its probably my favourite nine
holes on the PGA Tour," Streelman said. "But you cant plan for something like
that to happen. It just kind of falls into place." He broke the tour record for
consecutive closing birdies by a winner of six set by Mike Souchak in the 1956
St. Paul Open. He matched the tournament record with a 7-under 28 on the final
nine. "I had 10 one-putts in a row," Streelman said. "Thats something Ive
definitely never done before." Also the Tampa Bay Championship winner last
season, the 35-year-old Streelman missed the cuts in his previous four starts on
tour. "I didnt have too many expectations coming here," said Streelman, who
earned $1.12 million for the victory. Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi tied for
second. They each shot 67. Aaron Baddeley was fourth at 13 under after a 69.
Streelman was 1 over for the day before starting the birdie run on No. 12. The
streak reached five with a 37-foot putt at No. 16, and he capped it by hitting a
wedge to 9 feet and rolling in another putt at No. 18. "I knew when that putt
fell on 16 that something kind of special was happening," Streelman said.
Streelman said he hasnt focus on golf exclusively lately, trying to spend more
time with wife Courtney and 6-month-old daughter Sophie.

thinking about her (Sophie) on those last couple of putts. I was thinking, You
know what? If these go in, great. If not, great. Shes going to love me either
way and we have a nice family vacation coming up either way," Streelman said.
Streelman said a 10-foot putt for birdie on No. 9 gave him a boost of confidence
that he could finish with a flourish. Garcia has six top-10 finishes in 10 PGA
Tour starts this season, and won the European Tours Qatar Masters in January.
"At the end of the day he played really, really well," Garcia said about
Streelman. "I feel like I played quite nicely and it just wasnt my time." For
the sixth straight year at the Travelers the player who held the 54-hole lead
was unable to win. Ryan Moore was one stroke ahead after three rounds, but
closed with a 71 to tie for fifth at 12 under. Second-round leader Scott Langley
birdied his first three holes and briefly pulled into the lead at 14 under. He,
too, finished with a 71 to tie for 11th at 10 under. Miguel Angel Carballo
became the second player to make three eagles in a round on the PGA Tour this
season as part of a 63 early Saturday. He finished at 9 under. Patrick Rodgers,
the former Stanford star making his pro debut, shot a 70 to tie for 46th at 4
under. Ken Duke, the winner last year, had a 68 to also finish at 4 under.

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State John Kerry, the most powerful politician in the
house, performed a ceremonial puck drop to send the Olympians on their way.
Paul Posluszny Jersey . Alex Ovechkin, the
biggest hockey star in the arena, scored his league-leading 40th goal to give
his team the lead in the third period. Set aside those two larger-than-life
names for a moment, however, and look at the trio who occupy the score sheet for
the crucial tying goal early in the third period of the Washington Capitals 4-2
win over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Patrick Wey (second NHL game).
Julien Brouillette (first NHL game). Tom Wilson (second NHL goal). "It was a
simple play, but it was nice that we ended up scoring," Wey said. "And Im really
excited." Simple but effective. Wey passed cross-ice to Brouillette, who then
deliberately shot wide of the net to set up a carom off the boards that
eventually made its way to Wilson. "The play Brou made, banking it off the
boards like that, I thought that was a great play," Washington coach Adam Oates
said. "And obviously it worked, the bounce was right. ... It gave us a lot of
life." Wey and Brouillette had arrived in town the night before, having been
recalled from Hershey of the AHL to serve as the third defensive pairing because
the Capitals had run out of healthy bodies. "From what I expected," Oates said,
"they were fantastic." The Wey-Brouillette-Wilson goal made the score 2-2,
setting the stage for Ovechkin. The Russian forward lifted the puck over a pile
of bodies in the crease with 12:14 remaining, following up after
Nicklas Backstrom had taken two whacks at a rebound before sliding into
goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Troy Brouwer then added his second goal of the game
in the closing minutes, and Braden Holtby made 34 saves for the Capitals, who
are trying to generate at least a modicum of momentum headed into the Olympic
break. Washington had dropped 10 of its previous 13, including a 1-0 shutout
loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday. Bryan Little and Dustin Byfuglien
scored, and Pavelec stopped 26 shots for the Jets, who had a three-game winning
streak snapped. Winnipeg dominated play in the second period before allowing
three goals in the third, dropping the team to 9-3 since coach Claude Noel was
fired on Jan. 12 and replaced by Paul Maurice. "I think they just did a little
bit to us what weve been doing to (other) teams," Maurice said. "They weathered
that second-period storm." With the NHLs Olympic break beginning after Saturdays
games, Kerry was on hand to recognize the four players from each team headed to
Sochi. He then dropped the puck at centre ice between two U.S. Olympians,
Winnipegs Blake Wheeler and Washingtons John Carlson. Kerry also met with
Capitals coaches and players in the locker room before the game. "I had a good
talk with him," Oates said. "But hes obviously a very busy man. He comes with
his entourage; its pretty tough to have a chat." NOTES: Littles goal was

mean hell be wearing a Maple Leafs jersey right away. Gleason, obtained from the
Carolina Hurricanes for fellow defenceman John-Michael Liles and a prospect,
practised with the Leafs for the first time Friday. But its uncertain if hell
play Saturday night against the New York Rangers. "We feel he can make a
contribution, and if it starts (Saturday) night or if it starts the next night
or the night after, its always nice to have depth in defencemen," coach Randy
Carlyle said. "I think its one of those things where youd like the player to get
a little bit more familiar with your group, too. "Well see on how we feel he
sets up." Gleason was paired with Mark Fraser on Friday. Fraser has been a
healthy scratch for Torontos past six games and eight of the last nine. Carlyle
provided some mixed signals on whether Gleason might be in the lineup for his
size and physicality. "New Yorks got some big forwards in (Rick) Nash and
(Brian) Boyle," he said. "Theyre a hockey club that will try to grind it down
down-low. So those are all things you take into consideration." Carlyle and his
staff must also consider Gleasons quick turnaround after being dealt New Years
Day as the Leafs were playing in the Winter Classic. The veteran has a steep
learning curve ahead of him. "Theres a lot of information, a lot of system
things, kind of like going back to school, so its good," Gleason said. The
30-year-old left-handed shot had just one assist in 17 games for Carolina this
season. He knew he was being traded about a week ago and was pulled out of games
and practices beginning Dec. 31 against Montreal, so it didnt come as much of a
surprise. Gleason, whose final game with the Hurricanes was at Air Canada Centre
against the Leafs, also knew to expect more media attention than he got in
Raleigh, N.C. "This is totally different from what Im used to. Theres usually
two of you," Gleason said with a smile. "This is exciting, and (Im) happy to be
a part of this club." The six-foot, 217-pound Gleason figures to fit in better
with Carlyles ideal identity than the smaller, quicker Liles, whos more of a
puck-mover. "I think Im a physical player," Gleason said. "Thats kind of how Ive
earned my spot throughout my career so far, just being physical and being hard
to play against and kind of bringing that gritty type of style of play." That
gritty style of play is exactly why the Leafs acquired Gleason and his
US$4-million cap hit that runs for two more seasons after this one. Unlike
Liles, who was made expendable by the growth of Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardiner,
Gleason wont be out of place. "I think were asking Tim Gleason to play the way
hes accustomed to playing," Carlyle said. "Thats the style of play that hes
etched out an NHL career (with), being a strong, physical, defensive defenceman.
"We think he has something to offer to our group." Gleason wwill likely have
something to offer as long as he can stay healthy.
Authentic Telvin Smith Jersey. . He missed
time at the start of the season with a concussion and then separate stretches
with an upper-body and then a lower-body injury. Asked if he was healthy now,
Gleason deemed himself 100 per cent. "Obviously I had some issues prior at the
beginning of the year, kind of a setback," he said. "But all good and ready to
go and ready to get my game back here." Gleasons challenge in getting his game
back has to do with the Leafs carrying eight defencemen. Theyve played eight
this season, counting Liles, and at one point had a ninth on the roster in
T.J. Brennan, who did not dress. That also could be a bit of a problem for
Carlyle when it comes to juggling eight and only being able to play six or
sometimes seven at a time. "Its always tough when youre making decisions whether
people are in and out of the lineup. It does complicate it," Carlyle said. "But
thats a luxury. We always state that when you start the beginning of the year,
you think you need nine or 10 to get through the year. This years no different
than that. "We just felt that with the way our team is and the way weve played
that wed like to add some stiffness on the back end." The Leafs did that in
getting Gleason for Liles and 2011 sixth-rounder Dennis Robertson, a defenceman
whos playing at Brown University. Gleason had to waive his no-trade clause to
make it happen and did so knowing it was a smart, practical move. "Ultimately it
was our decision as a family," said Gleason, a veteran of 616 NHL regular-season
games. "Youve been (in) a place for eight years, you kind of have friendships
outside the hockey, things like that. It plays a big part in life itself. "But I
knew as a hockey decision I had to move on, and what a better place to be than
Toronto." Gleason arrived on a day temperatures reached -22 C and after snow had
fallen across much of the region. That didnt bother the native of Clawson,
Mich., which is about 20 minutes outside of Detroit. "Im a Michigander, so its
not that far off," Gleason said. "Its in my blood. I tried to shake it for eight
years, but I came back and I was used to it." NOTES -- Practice was delayed more
than 40 minutes because of accidents on the west-bound section of the Gardiner

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns might be excused for their defensive lapses.
Cheap Authentic
Jerseys . They were putting most of their energy into a
record-setting offensive display. The Suns achieved season highs in total
points, points in a half and assists, and tied their single-game best for made
3-pointers in a 129-120 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night. Their
first-half point total of 79 was the most in the NBA before halftime this season
and two shy of a US Airways Center record for points in a half. The only cloudy
spot for the Suns was that they allowed more than 100 points for the fifth
straight game. This after they sank 15 3-pointers and dished out 29 assists in a
blink-and-you-missed it kind of game where neither team paid any mind to the
shot clock. "Both of our teams are hard to guard in terms of how we play.
Kicking it up and quick shots, and the way that both teams have guards that can
really penetrate," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "That breaks down defences
when teams are good at passing the ball and shooting the ball. Sometimes there
might look like there was zero defence out there, but Im sure the guys were
trying." Gerald Green certainly was trying on offence. He hit 5 of 6 3-pointers
in the first half and finished with 33 points. The previous high for Phoenix in
any half this season was 67 points, but 63 per cent shooting, including 12 of 18
on 3-pointers in the first half, shattered the team mark. "We were making 2s and
some 3s. They were making all 3s," Hawks guard Jeff Teague said. Goran Dragic
added 19 points for the Suns, hearing the chants of "MVP" from the home crowd,
and Marcus Morris had 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Twin brother
Markieff added 21 points and eight rebounds. "Its two fast-paced teams going
against each other," Green said. "We knew it was going to be like that, but I
didnt know they were going to be running like that." Phoenix led by as many as
15 points late in the second quarter, even though Atlanta scored 65 first-half
points, including 37 in the first quarter, the highest against the Suns in any
first quarter this season. Teague had 29 points and eight assists for the Hawks,
and Mike Scott added 20 points. "Its nothing we need to be super overly cautious
about," Green said of the Suns defence, "but we do need to take a step back and
kind of look and see what were doing wrong, especially in the first quarter."
The second half saw slightly less scoring from both teams, but the Suns led
90-77 after Greens high-flying dunk over the Hawks Shelvin Mack with 7:21 left
in the third quarter. The Suns lead was at 95-89 after Kyle Korver hit his fifth
3-pointer at the 3:54 mark, and down to 95-91 on a basket by Mack with 3:22 to
play. Mack made it a one-point game with a layup to cap an 8-0 run, but the Suns
scored seven of the last eight points of the third quarter to take a 102-95 lead
into the fourth. Leandro Barbosa, playing his first game since missing the past
five with a sprained toe, scored five key points in the fourth quarter to keep
the Hawks at bay. The Suns never held less than a five-point lead in the
quarter. A transition pass from Dragic to P.J. Tucker for a long jumper made the
score 121-110 with 3:20 left in the game and essentially ended any chance for a
Hawks comeback. "They shot the ball extremely well. They play with great pace,
they put lot of pressure in your defence, make or miss," Hawks coach Mike
Budenholzer said. "Our transition defence wasnt good enough." The Hawks have
lost 11 of their last 12 games. The Suns havent lost two straight games to the
Hawks since the 1991-92 season. It took Korver less than two minutes to continue
his NBA-record streak of at least one made 3-pointer in a game. His long-range
shot at 10:29 of the first quarter gave him 127 straight games with a made
three-ball. Korver made six of seven 3-pointers to finish with 18 points. NOTES:

because many of the trips will be to teams from the east." The Netherlands was

qualified. It will play matches in Group I, but no points will be awarded for
their matches. UEFA made the change because host nations can struggle to arrange
suitable friendlies while others focus on qualification. Germany, the runner-up
to Spain at Euro 2008, is in Group D and has potentially awkward matches against
the Republic of Ireland and Poland -- led by Borussia Dortmund striker Robert
Lewandowski -- with Gibraltar, Georgia and Scotland also in the group. "The
matches against Scotland will be great occasions," Republic of Ireland manager
Martin ONeill said. "It looks like a group, Germany apart, where teams might
take points off each other." England will be pleased with what looks like a
winnable Group E featuring Switzerland, San Marino, Lithuania, Estonia and
Slovenia. "Im very satisfied, in particular for the fans. Weve had some quite
tough trips to get to in recent years, but theres some good places to visit,"
England coach Roy Hodgson said. "The name Switzerland always brinngs a smile to
my face because they were four fantastic years (as national team coach).

China. " But Wales bid to qualify might mean going through the
playoffs as Group B contains Eden Hazards Belgium and the attacking strength of
Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is completed by Andorra, Cyprus and Israel. "Im
happy, positive," Wales coach Chris Coleman said. "We managed to get a point in
Belgium (in World Cup qualifying) and were unlucky at home." Belgium coach Marc
Wilmots was happy overall. "I am not going to say it is a beautiful draw,
because every match is difficult," Wilmots said. "But I will return home feeling
satisfied." Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed out on this years World Cup after Sweden
was beaten by Portugal in a thrilling playoff, but the prolific Paris
Saint-Germain forward should grace the fields of France in two years time.
Sweden and Russia are likely to lead Group G, where Liechtenstein, Moldova,
Montenegro and Austria look to be up against it. Italy, runners-up to France in
2000 and Spain in 2012, will be confident of winning Group H, despite facing
Croatia, Norway and Bulgaria. The other teams are Malta and Azerbaijan. "Its a
very demanding group, we will have to prepare ourselves well," Italy coach
Cesare Prandelli said. "Were not facing Belgium or Switzerland but I dont think
Croatia is inferior to them. Croatia and Bulgaria are potential group winners."
Group F, however, seems to be the most open one and it is hard to call the top
two from 2004 champion Greece, Finland, Romania, improving Northern Ireland and
Hungary. All of them should take maximum points against perpetual minnow, the
Faeroe Islands. Having guided Portugal to the World Cup with a brilliant playoff
performance against Sweden -- outshining even Ibrahimovic -- Cristiano Ronaldo
will need to find his scoring touch to keep Portugal ahead of Serbia and Denmark
in Group I, and trips to Albania and Armenia are sometimes tricky. France
completes Group I, although Didier Deschamps team has no bearing on the outcome.
"Its pretty good to play a team like Portugal, they will be prestigious
matches," Deschamps said.
