SEATTLE -- Justin Meram scored in the final minute of second-half stoppage time, lifting the Columbus Crew to a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night.Ali Marpet Orange Jersey . Merams winning score was set up by Federico Higuains corner kick. The ball went beyond the top of the penalty area to Meram, who drilled a 25-yarder into the back right corner past Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei. The Crew (3-0-0) have won their first three games for the first time in the clubs 19-year history. "I was just lucky enough that the play happened," said Meram, who entered in the 89th minute. "(Higuain) is one of the best players in the league. He recognized it, played it to me, I saw an opening and just went for it." "I practice that shot a lot - to be honest, maybe too much," Meram added. "But it paid off tonight." Sounders coach Sigi Schmid wondered aloud if the final play should have been stopped. "Usually, the referee positions himself outside the 18 when a corner kick is taken. I rarely see a referees position almost inside the 6-yard box, so it looked like he was talking to our players," Schmid said. "And if youre talking to our players, why do you let the ball get played? "If youre going to talk to one of our players then you got to stop the play. But that doesnt make an excuse for us for falling asleep and still more players need to pay attention there so we dont get caught." Coupled with Columbus 3-0-1 preseason record, the Crew have yet to lose under the direction of first-year coach and former U.S. national team player Gregg Berhalter. "I dont think you could have seen it," Berhalter said of the fast start. "We knew we wanted to develop, we knew we wanted to grow as a team, and we knew we wanted to improve. Weve made strides in every game that weve played. The guys have accepted the way we want to play, and thats been key." Higuain converted a penalty kick late in the 59th minute to tie it at 1. Higuain has two of his three goals this season on PKs. Last year, he scored a team-record six times in eight opportunities from the spot. Kenny Cooper scored early in the 23rd minute for the Sounders (2-2-0). It his first goal since being acquired in an off-season trade with FC Dallas. Higuains penalty kick was set up when Dominic Oduro was taken down in the box by Seattle defender Djimi Traore, who subsequently was shown a straight red card by referee Allen Chapman. Higuain drove his shot into the upper centre of the net, with Frei diving to the right. Ali Marpet Limited Jersey . Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Dries-Mertens-UEFA-European-Belgium-Jersey/ .ca. Keep up the great work Kerry, always enjoy reading your posts at TSN. Maybe you can use these questions, not game related but more on the officials. Is there any talk among the officials between periods of play on the ice, meaning players to watch out for, the flow of the game, etc.? Also, what happens after a game? Are the officials contacted by the NHL regarding certain calls, review of the game, certain plays? In general, the life of an on-ice official once they arrive at the rink until they board their next flight to a new city. Thanks, Paul Kukla - Kuklas Corner Hi Paul: Thank you for the shout-out and your general question that allows me to provide a dressing room full of insights presented in this lengthy column, which I hope you find both informative and interesting. I likewise enjoy reading the extensive material you assemble and update frequently on Kuklas Corner. Lets begin by thinking back in time to an NHL that allowed the Officials to demonstrate their unique and individual personality even to the point of having their names on the back of their jerseys. The personalities that you saw on the ice were in most cases a glimpse of what you might expect from inside the officials locker room. Highly respected Hall of Fame linesman John DAmico was a very intense individual on and off the ice. John began his mental preparation no later than the day before the game was to take place; sometimes even sooner. No one prepared himself for a game like John DAmico, which perhaps contributed to his ongoing psoriasis condition. He arrived at the rink early with his game face on and was quite superstitious. As a result, I would describe John as somewhat eccentric and definitely a creature of habit. He always sat in the same seat, unpacked and set up his gear methodically and put it on in the exact same order night in and night out. John was all business and very intense. He liked his quiet space in the dressing room to focus and wasnt afraid to tell you so if the room was too noisy for his liking. One time, as a young referee, I was chastised by this Grizzly Bear in Zebra stripes when I was doing aerobics to music in the dressing room. I immediately took my warm-up into the hallway outside the room. John was really a powerful man and would put his face in front of a punch to protect a player from a cheap shot once he entered the altercation. Many times his face was bloodied as a result but he never flinched. DAmico protected the referees in the same way. John DAmico was one of the best linesmen in the history of the game. Leon Stickle was another excellent linesman but demonstrated the total opposite personality of John DAmico. Big Stick was a fun loving guy that constantly cracked jokes in the dressing room to relieve nervous energy and tension. His warm-up consisted of a cup of coffee, a smoke and a joke. Leon laughed at his own jokes harder than any who he told them to. After games in the bar he would introduce himself as, Leon Tickle spelled with an S. The night prior to and after games in Montreal you could usually find Leon in a jovial mood playing the drums on stage with the band at the LAnge Bleu (Blue Angel Bar). Everybody loved Leon, perhaps with the exception the Philadelphia fans who remember his missed offside in the deciding game of the Stanley Cup Final against the NY Islanders. Everybody makes mistakes and he tried not to beat himself up over it. I once asked Stick how he missed such an obvious off-side and he responded that he was much better on the close ones! Even though he took the missed call to heart and it bothered him that entire summer being the professional that he was, Leon recognized the need to move forward with a positive attitude and eliminate such mistakes in the future. As a 22 year old NHL contracted referee working in the minor professional leagues I received a call from Scotty Morrison early one Sunday morning in April of 1975. Scotty asked me to get to Philadelphia right away to replace linesman Claude Bechard who was injured the night before in a game on Long Island. There was obviously nobody else available for Scotty to have to send me to work as a linesman in a game involving the Broad Street Bullies and the Atlanta Flames. I was extremely nervous but took some comfort in working the game with two veteran officials, referee Wally Harris and big Leon Stickle. Stick and I broke up one fight early and I settled in and felt comfortable as the game progressed. By the middle of the third period the Flyers were up 5-2 and as Leon handed me the puck to conduct an end zone face-off. Stickle then told me to wait for his signal because there was a TV commercial timeout. I told Bobby Clarke and the Atlanta center to hold on because of the television delay. We were all waiting patiently at the face-off circle when finally Wally Harris skated over and said, Can I ask what the hell youre waiting for to drop that puck? I told him I was waiting for Leons signal that the commercial timeout was finished. Harris scowled at me and said, You dumb-ass, the game isnt even televised! Drop the puck and lets get the hell out of here before they (the Flyers) wake up! Harris then added, And dont listen to Stickle anymore. Big Leon was standing at the blue line laughing to the point of tears. The games were tough and we worked hard but we definitely had a lot of fun. By contrast, every game is now televised and the officials calls are much more scrutinized than ever before. That includes the analysis I provide in this column and on Twitter (@kfraserthecall), which often does not endear me with my former colleagues! (Everyone has to wear their Big Boy Pants at times.) Heck, the refs are even wearing helmet cams to provide fans with a glimpse of what they are looking at throughout the game. While the modern game is much more business oriented in all aspects, the varied personalities can still be demonstrated in the officials room, even if not so much on the ice. Guys respect each others space and method of preparation. Far more emphasis and effort is spent on pre-game physical preparation. Stationary bikes are available and many officials also incorporate plyometric workout exercises for quick foot speed and stretching as part of their regular warm-up routine. Flat-screen televisions are standard in each dressing room, as is a telephone to call the in-house video review official or dial directly to the Situation Room in Toronto. The calling capability goes both ways! Once the officials have completed their individual physical warm-up there is always a discussion around the room about the game at hand. I never failed to pick up the game press notes in advance to look at stats from previous meetings between the two teams, in addition to anything we should be aware of before stepping onto the ice; forewarned is forearmed as they say! I would review procedures with my referee partner concerning areas of coverage, including individual responsibilities during transitional play, finishing of checks and gap coverage, and to avoid making long distance calls by the neutral zone referee if his partner was in good position and looking at the play. The crew might also discuss individual player tendencies and the need for heightened awareness when certain individuals were on the ice; especially those that were prone to crease crashing, diving and embellishment. During intermission the officials return to the quiet of the dressing room to relax and hydrate. A period recap is quickly done and each official can share his perspective on how things are progressing. They once again revisit player tendencies as demonstrated thus far. That would include players going hard to the net, contact in and around the crease and whatever the game had presented for them to that point. The television is often tuned to the intermission report and replays become available for the officials to get a second look. Sometimes they will dial into another game being played around the League. Intermission also provides an opportunity to communicate with each other away from the noise and pace of the game. Every game has a heartbeat and the best officials will always feel the pulse of the game in the moment. The game pulse will dictate what action might be required to calm the game or to just stay out of the way and let em play. On occasion the hot-line telephone even rings. By way of example, I had a game in the Boston TD Garden in late March of my final season. With just over a minute remaining in the first period Mike Brown of the Ducks jumped Milan Lucic, catching the Bruins tough guy off guard. Brown tapped Lucic with a solid punch or two to the head before he knew what hit him. A quick fight resulted before they both hit the ice and the linesmen moved in quickly. Lucic was really pissed and I could tell this thing was far from over. I instructed the linesmen to escort both players off the ice to their respective dressing room. The period ended and I immediately searched out Bruins Coach Claude Julien. I told the coach I was concerned that Lucic was going to seek revenge against Brown. With the playoffs just around the corner I thought it in their best interest if Claude calmed his player down to avoid the potential for a suspension. Coach Julien advised me that they evaluated Lucic as a result of the head contact and were taking precautionary measures to have him get undressed. Lucic would not return to the game. I was no sooner in our dressing room than the phone rang beside my locker stall. Mike Murphy, V.P. of Hockey Operations, was on the other end of the line and in an excited tone said he was very nervous about the Lucic situation. I really like Murph and have the utmost respect for him but I laughed out loud and asked what he was nervous about? I then informed Mike we had everything under control in Boston and that Lucic was getting undressed and would not return to action. I finished our conversation by telling Mike to relax and enjoy the game. I guess Big Brother is always watching over the officials shoulder and prepared to make a long distance call of their own when they deem it necessary. We felt the pulse in that game and addressed the situation prior to receiving the phone call. That is what referees are supposed to do. At the conclusion of the game the Official Scorer brings in the game sheet for the referee(s) to sign. If there was a game misconduct or special situation in the game that requires a written report by the referees that information is also provided by the Scorer. Reports are completed on an NHL software program contained on the laptop each official is provided. One official per game is also responsible to file an ice condition report that goes to Dan Craig, The Iceman who does an amazing job. The crew then drives the rental car back to the designated hotel (Marriott) and they quickly unpack their gear to dry out (My wife Kathy never quite got used to the odor of drying equipment in the hotel room whenever she joined me on the road?). The guys rendezvous in the lobby and make plans to grab a bite to eat and some adult beverages to unwind from the game, either in the hotel or their favorite local establishment. If they are lucky they have back-to-back games in the same city and can set up camp for a couple of days. If not, they pack up in the morning and fly to the next destination and the routine starts all over again. Paul Pierce hit a 3-pointer with 16.9 seconds left in OT to give the Nets the short-lived lead. Turner, sensational all game, drove past a pair of defenders and tossed up the last-gasp shot. The ball bounced three times around the rim before it dropped through the net. After a brief review, the bucket stood, Turner was mobbed by his teammates and the Sixers snapped a seven-game losing streak. Thaddeus Young scored 25 points for the Sixers, and Michael Carter-Williams had 15 points and 10 assists. Alan Anderson had a season-high 26 points for the Nets, Pierce scored 24 with 10 rebounds, and Deron Williams had 17 points and 14 assists. Brooklyn grabbed a 115-113 lead early in OT after Turner and Pierce swapped 3-pointers. Carter-Williams hit two free throws for a 116-115 lead, then had the assist to Young in front of Brooklyns bench on a 3-pointer with 2:02 left. The 76ers missed three shots on the same possession, setting up Pierces clutch 3, Brooklyns 15th of the game. Turned out, the Sixers had one last dramatic shot of their own. Turners 13th basket of the game was his biggest of the season, and he was mobbed on the court by a Sixers team buried well below .500. Carter-Williams returned after a seven-game absence because of a skin infection and teamed with Tony Wroten in the backcourt for an effective 1-2 punch. Wroten scored 19 points. Thanks to OT, the Sixers finished with season highs in field goals (51) and assists (36). Mirza Teletovic hit 6 3s and scored 18 points for the Nets. Brook Lopez had 22 points. The Nets played without veterans Joe Johnson (personal reasons) and Kevin p;Garnett (rest). http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Eden-Hazard-UEFA-European-Belgium-Jersey/. Without their veterans, the Nets missed twice on one of the final possessions of regulation and the Sixers grabbed the rebound. Philadelphia rookie coach Brett Brown called timeout with 21.1 seconds left, setting up Carter-Williams drive down the lane. He beat Williams to the basket, but ended with a wild misfire on a left-handed layup over Lopez. Brooklyn grabbed the rebound and called timeout. Williams missed at the horn over Youngs outstretched arm to send it into OT. Neither team could break away in the fourth. Young hit a mid-range jumper from the top of the key with 1:58 left for a 107-106 lead. Anderson snatched it right back on two free throws -- a lopsided edge for the Nets. The Nets made 21 of 30 free throws; the 76ers just 10 of 15. Turner, who made his first eight shots from the floor, hit only the front end on a pair of attempts, but tied the game 108-all. The Nets struggled to build a small lead for most of the quarter. They botched an alley-oop and Williams had the ball slip out of his hands on a layup attempt. Still, all five starters hit double-digit scoring in regulation, and Williams had a double-double. Anderson, who averages only 8.0 points, connected on a pair of 3s during a 10-1 run late in the third that sent the Nets into the fourth with an 83-82 lead. Johnson made 10 3-pointers, most in the NBA this season, and scored a season-high 37 points in the Nets 130-94 victory over the Sixers on Monday night. With Johnson out, Teletovic took over as Brooklyns 3-point ace, hitting five in the first half against one of the worst-defending teams in the league. He nearly did as much damage alone from 3-point range as the Sixers did as a team. NOTES: Wroten has started all games Carter-Williams has missed this season. ... The struggling Edmonton Oilers look to end their five-game losing streak when they host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at Rexall Place. Atletico Madrid Jersey . The Oilers come in having lost five in a row (0-4-1) and 16 of their last 20 games, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. Jordan Eberle scored a goal in his third straight game and Ben Scrivens made 25 stops in his home debut after being recently acquired from the Los Angeles Kings. "We were right there even with them," Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins said of his teams late charge. "I thought the game started to tilt our way in the third period." Eberles goal-scoring streak has pushed his season total to 17 to go along with 23 assists in 51 games. He ranks third on the club in goals scored, behind only David Perron and Taylor Hall, who both have netted 18. Eberle is also second to only Halls 47 points on Edmonton. Eakins is expected to give Ilya Bryzgalov the start tonight and he is 9-2-1 with a 2.05 GAA in 13 starts against his former club, but did yield four goals on 45 shot faced in the previous meeting on Dec. 31. The Coyotes are 0-3-2 in their last five games as the guest, opening a three- game swing with Wednesdays 3-2 setback to the Calgary Flames, failing to extend their opponents franchise-worst seven-game slide at home. They look to snap a five-game road losing streak. Antoine Vermette scored his second short-handed goal in as many games and Shane Doan had a third-period goal to again get Phoenix to within one, but the club lost its second straight game and sixth in its past eight. Mike Smith turned aside 23-of-26 shots in defeat, which saw the Coyotes fail to score a power-play goal for the first time in nine games. "We have to just keep pounding away," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "Weve got a lot of guys who are playing hard. We just have to turn it into results." The Coyotes have won all three of their previous meetings with the Oilers this season and have won four straight and nine of the last 11 encounters overall. They have also claimed two in a row and seven of their last eight in Edmonton. Smith is 7-1-1 with a 2.54 goals against average in his career versus the Oilers, starting all three meetings this season. He won the first two, but was lifted after 27 minutes of work in a 4-3 overtime win at home on Dec. 31. Smith yielded three goals on 10 shots, while Thomas Greiss stopped all 15 shots he faced in relief to get the win. (SportsNetwork. Koke Jersey .com) - The Ottawa Senators will try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive when they face the Chicago Blackhawks who are trying to secure their place in the post-season. You can listen to the game live on TSN 1200 in Ottawa at 7:30pm et. The Senators have lost four of their last six at home versus the Blackhawks and a late-season fade has just about knocked them out of the playoff race. They snapped a six-game slide with Mondays shootout win over Tampa Bay, but lost a 3-2 shootout to the Florida Panthers the following night. Ottawa has gone 2-6-3 in its last 11 and sits eight points back of four teams tied for the two wild card berths in the Eastern Conference. On Tuesday, Vincent Trocheck and Brandon Pirri beat Ottawas Robin Lehner in the shootout. After Turris rattled a goal off the post and in, Jason Spezza fired wide on Ottawas second chance and Floridas Roberto Luongo ended the game with a glove save on Michaleks backhand as he did a split in the crease. Lehner had 39 saves for the Senators, who begin a five-game homestand tonight. "It is what it is," Lehner said of the loss. "We lost that one but I thought it was a good effort." Anderson may get the start tonight and it would be his first since March 10, when he suffered an upper-body injury. He is 4-1-2 with a 3.43 GAA lifetime versus the Blackhawks. Bobby Ryan, who leads Ottawa with 23 goals, missed his second game with a lower-body injury and will miss the rest of the regular season due to surgery to correct a sports hernia. Ryan was acquired in a trade with Anaheim on the same day long-time Sens skater Daniel Alfredsson signed with the Detroit Red Wings. He finished his first season in Ottawa with 48 points in 70 games. The Blackhawks went into Thursday nights game versus the hosting Boston Bruins needing just one point to clinch a playoff spot, but were blanked 3-0 in their first trip to TD Garden since winning the Cup last June. Corey Crawford stopped 20 shots for the Blackhawks, who had won three of their previous four but were shut out for the second time in three games. A struggling power play didnt help. Chicago went 0-for-2 on the man advantage and has gone 0-for-20 in its last seven on the road. "Were looking to get one more win," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. Chicago played a fourth straight game without winger Patrick Kane due to a lower-body injury and fellow forward Bryan Bickell also sat out his fourth in a row because of an upper-body issue. Still, the Blackhawks sit second in the Central Division, one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche but 14 up on the fourth-place Minnesota Wild. It is unknown if Crawford will start on back-to-back nights or if rookie backup Antti Raanta will face the Senators for the first time. Crawford is 2-0-0 with a 1.92 goals against average in his career against Ottawa, picking up a victory in relief on Oct. 29. He yielded one goal on 15 shots in spelling Nikolai Khabibulin as the Blackhawks rallied for a 6-5 win. Jonathan Toews scored twice in the third period to notch a hat trick as the Blackhawks beat the Senators for a third straight meeting and for the sixth time in the last seven encounters. The NCAA released the findings of its two-year investigation into convicted felon Nevin Shapiros relationship with Miami athletics on Tuesday and said that Haith, the former Hurricanes basketball coach, failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance with its rules. The investigation found that Haith and Miami assistant coach Jake Morton provided Shapiro $10,000 after he threatened to expose previous improper contact with high school recruits and amateur coaches, as well as other unflattering details involving a booster now serving a 20-year prison term for masterminding a $930 million Ponzi scheme. Shapiro, who had basketball season tickets with a courtside seat, initially demanded a large loan from Haith after he experienced financial trouble or the return a $50,000 donation from a benefit bowling tournament he had hosted. The coach refused. Morton, who joined Western Kentucky as an assistant coach in 2011 but resigned in April as its director of basketball operations, then loaned Shapiro at least $6,000, which he later repaid. The NCAA also said that Haith helped Morton and two other assistants pay $10,000 to Shapiros mother and "attempted to cover up the boosters threats to disclose incriminating information." Missouri plays four of its first give games this season at Mizzou Arena, starting with Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 8. Haith will also miss home games against Southern Illinois, Gardner-Webb and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, as well as a Nov. 16 game against Hawaii at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. He also must attend an NCAA rules seminar next summer. Haith has 15 days to appeal the Committee on Infractions penalties, which dont affect Missouri as an institution. School officials did not respond to several requests for comment, though Haith, who came to Columbia in 2011 after seven years at Miami, was scheduled to meet with reporters later Tuesday. His Florida-based attorney did not immediately respond to an interview request. While much of the 102-page report focuses on the far more successful Miami football program, the NCAA inquiry also opens a rare public window into the seamier side of cultivating big-money boosters -- even those, like Shapiro, with substantial baggage. Shapiro told Yahoo! Sports that he steered a $10,000 payment to secure recruit DeQuan Jones commitment to Miami in 2008 with Haiths knowledge. The NCAA said it found no evidence to support that claim. The report also said an associate athletics director in charge of fundraising guided Shapiro toward the Miami mens basketball program after the booster became disenchanted with the football teams losing 2007 season under first-year coach Randy Shannon. Haith and Morton told NCAA investigators they shared several meals with Shapiro, attended a concert together and visited a strip club "to create donor relationships." The report found that Haith provided inconsistent answers during multiple interviews with NCAA investigators, including conflicting accounts of when he reported Shapiros shakedown attempt to athletic director Paul Dee. "Because of the many inconsistencies the former head mens basketball coach reported during his interviews with the enforcement staff and the institutions, the committee does not find his version of events to be credible," the report concludes. Infractions Committee Chairman Britton Banowsky, who is also Conference USA commissioner, reiterated those concerns. "It was difficult for the committee, and maybe even the members of the enforcement staff, to know precisely what really was going on in the program, given all the conflicting information," he said. In Haiths three interviews with NCAA investigators between October 2011 and September 2012, he provided three different explanations as to why he paid his assistants $3,200 advances that they normally would have had to wait to receive from summer basketball camps. Haith requested the third interview soon after his second sit-down, citing concerns that he had given "inaccurate" information and was "confused about the timing of what (he) knew and when (he) knew it." Beyond Haiths penalties, Miamis football team will lose a total of nine scholarships and the Hurricanes mens basketball team will lose three over a three-year period starting in 2014. The school will also serve three years of probation. Two former Miami football assistants and one ex-basketball assistant received two-year show-cause bans, which effectively keep the penalized parties out of the college coaching ranks. The smell of freshly cut grass makes you think of those back home chipping away at the ice on their car windows. Young defender Gale Agbossoumonde receives the ball, looks back and sees Steven Caldwell open. He decides not to pass it and instead forces a more difficult pass forward. Minutes later he is handed another opportunity. In his strong Scottish twang, Caldwell screams at his defender for the ball but, once again, he doesnt receive it, instead the ball is given away to the opposing team. It might still be February but Caldwell doesnt let it slide, telling his colleague in no certain terms what he must do next time. In a quick five-second moment, he shows to Agbossoumonde, and the rest of the team, the type of leader he is and the mentality expected inside Toronto FCs camp. Caldwell is as intense as he is driven. Hours after the training game he is preparing for a pre-season match here in Orlando and as he walks out of the dressing room he is focused firmly on the match as if its the most important game of his life. It is hard to believe this is Steven Caldwells first pre-season camp with Toronto FC. Since making his debut last May, the Scot has become club captain and was voted player of the 2013 season. Despite not even playing one full season for the team he also is unquestionably the best centre back the club has ever had. Toronto FC have struggled a great deal throughout their short existence in MLS and one of the main reasons for this has been the genuine lack of talent playing for them at the heart of defence. While the likes of Miguel Aceval, Andrew Boyens, Adrian Cann, Nick Garcia, Tyrone Marshall, Darren ODea and Marco Velez combined to play over 250 games at that position for this team, Caldwell was playing at the highest level in England. "I had some great times at Newcastle and in the Champions League I came on against Inter Milan, played the full 90 against Leverkusen, they were fantastic experiences. We had a good run, we went to San Siro, Nou Camp, Feyenoord was a special night when we scored two late goals to get through," Caldwell tells me. Having played all over the world, the Scot, who signed for Newcastle as a schoolboy, still names St Jamess Park as his favourite all-time stadium: "Fantastic atmosphere, the noise is incredible. I remember against Sunderland, that game sticks out, my first derby, we lost to a Niall Quinn header, but you couldnt hear the person who was five yards next to you, you just had to read his lips." Caldwell was loaned to Leeds in January 2004 to try and help them stay in the Premier League. He failed but remembers his time fondly. "I loved it, it was my first spell of regular football in the Premier League, Eddie Gray was the manager at the time - we had a great group of players, it still perplexes me to this day (getting relegated) - wow we had some team, Mark Viduka, Ian Harte, Alan Smith, stars everywhere really, it was a bitter disappointment for me to not do it for one of the best group of supporters I have ever had." One of the lowest moments of the season for Leeds was a crushing 5-0 loss against Arsenal at Highbury. Caldwell was one of the defenders asked to stop Thierry Henry that day, instead he was given a memory to last a lifetime. "Without even thinking about it, I can say he is the best player I have ever come across. That game he scored four goals and the last one Gary Kelly tripped him up and he still put it in," he laughs as he recreates the goal for me. "He was the best player in the world, for me, then and I was fortunate to say I played against him. What a gentleman he is and it is a real honour to still play against him now." In the summer of 2004, Caldwell joined Mick McCarthy at Sunderland and it was there where he created another special bond. Current Vancouver Whitecaps boss Carl Robinson had played on loan for Sunderland the year previous but would sign permanently the same month as Caldwell. "Mick brought in a special group who could deliver every single week, we were a fantastic grooup. Kevin Durant Womens Jersey. We had that togetherness, spirit, camaraderie. We won so many games 1-0, in the end we couldnt get beat, we were just rolling along and won the Championship with games to spare. That year means Robbo and I are very close, we spent a lot of time together in that first season. Our careers moved on and we would play each other and have the weekends together with our families, we always hooked up and stayed in touch. We will always have that bond because we have won something together." Robinson cant say enough about what kind of person and player, Caldwell is. He told me this week: "Toronto has a fantastic leader. He is one of the best teammates I ever had, he is a true friend off the field." Both Robinson and Caldwell experienced that feeling of success at Sunderland and are hoping to bring that to their MLS teams this season. Caldwell said coming to work every day knowing your team is at their best and wont let you down is the best feeling in football. He said: "I had it at Sunderland and Burnley, different makeups of teams but one thing that was the same was the spirit of the team and you just wake up and you know what you are going to get." After winning promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland, Caldwell did it again with Burnley, this time via the playoffs when he would lift the trophy at the iconic Wembley Stadium. "We played Reading in the first leg of the playoffs - they were superb with Kevin Doyle and Shane Long, theyd been in the Premier League a couple of years earlier, and they came to Turf Moor and battered us, but we beat them 1-0 with a penalty late, and I am driving home thinking we cannot play any worse than that (in the second leg) so in my mind we had won it already because I knew it couldnt be that bad. We got bombarded again but held out and scored two goals late on to take us to the final, where we felt the momentum was with us." Burnley ended a 33-year drought of top flight football at Wembley that day and the image of captain Caldwell lifting the trophy sits proudly inside their Turf Moor Stadium. It is the end result of a team going from below average to very good in one season and is something the 33-year-old is leaning on this season for Toronto. "It is a similar type of experience, you start (the season) and it grows and you know you have something going and I feel it here again. I am not speaking too quickly and getting ahead of ourselves, I have that feeling here that something is building at this club and it was very similar at Burnley." Caldwell has heard often about the constant comparisons between the Championship and MLS and, as a veteran of so many matches in the second tier of English football, offers a unique perspective on it. "I think MLS has a little bit more talent, a lot of that comes because we are fresher and play a lot less games. The Championship plays far too many games - you have 46 league games, players get tired, in the middle of the season you are exhausted, its crazy. You cannot even play the game you want to play because of fatigue so you just do what you can and hope you have that striker or that one bit of quality to change a game. "Here we have the quality, the facilities, the conditions, the weather, its a bit more enjoyable to play but where we have to catch up in North America is with our mentality. We have to be a little more tough and once that improves, which it is doing, I think you will start to see MLS teams improving and going on to win the CONCACAF Champions League." Much has changed in the offseason for Toronto. Yet, Caldwell is not the missing piece. He was the first piece awaiting others to surround him. Jermain Defoe, Gilberto and Dwayne De Rosario have been brought in for goals. Michael Bradley has been signed to anchor the midfield and Julio Cesar signed to make the crucial saves. One thing they need to secure to create a strong spine through the middle for this team is a centre-back who brings leadership, experience and, above all else, a strong mentality that becomes contagious. It was once the thing Toronto FC lacked the most. Now it is the one thing they know they can rely on.Cheap JerseysWholesale JerseysWholesale JerseysCheap JerseysCheap NFL JerseysCheap Jerseys ChinaWholesale Jerseys ' ' '
TSN Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger have the latest on the future homes of Jarome Iginla, Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek as well as updates on the top potential NCAA free agent and the NHLs search for fresh officiating. http://www.nflcoltsteamprostore.com/Youth-Frank-Gore-Elite-Jersey/ . Jarome Iginla has been one of the stories of this season individually. Hes been a great fit in Boston and his 28 goals leads the team. Does he end up there beyond this year and re-sign? Darren Dreger: Thats certainly the hope of the Boston Bruins and of Jarome Iginla as well. I know Peter Chiarelli, the Bruins general manager, reached out to Don Meehan from Newport Sports last week. Theres been no official back-and-forth in terms of dialogue or a negotiation and the reality is that the Bruins dont have the tag room or the cap space to close this deal in-season. But, most definitely, Chiarelli and the Bruins want to extend Iginlas stay. He loves Boston. They love him in Boston. I think a deal gets done. Pierre LeBrun: Another top-line right-winger whos slated to be a UFA come July 1 is Ales Hemsky, who came over at the trade deadline to help the Ottawa Senators. Now, he has helped them, even though the Senators have struggled. Ottawa has seen enough of Hemsky that in the very near future they are interested in reaching out to his representatives to see if hes interested in staying on and to talk about an extension. Obviously, the money has to be right for the budget-conscious Senators, but right now Bryan Murray would like to bring Hemsky back for next season. Does Ryan Miller stay in St. Louis? LeBrun: That is what Doug Armstrong and the St. Louis Blues would love to do. Theyve already reached out to Mike Liut, the agent for Ryan Miller, and told Miller: ‘Once this season is over, we want to bring you back. They are being aggressive in their overtures and telling this player that they do not want him to go to the July 1 market. They believe he is a long-term fit for their team which will contend for a number of years. Bob McKenzie: The conventional wisdom among the hockey community is that one of the reasons Miller wants to wait until free agency on July 1 is to see if theres any interest from the Anaheim Ducks. There was all sorts of speculation that the Ducks tried to make a trade with the Buffalo Sabres earlier this season for Miller, but that it fell through and they werent able to do it. Millers wife is an actress. She does all sorts of work in Hollywood and the possibility of being on a California team might be something that is really good for Ryan Miller. So, well wait and see where that goes. Its college free agent signing season. The most sought-after right now is Christian Folin, a 63”, 210-pound defenceman from Sweden who plays for the River Hawks and UMass. Who are the front-runners to get him? McKenzie: The Philadelphia Flyers, the Minnesota Wild, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Edmonton Oilers are amongst the teams believed to have the best chance to try to get Christian Folin out of UMass Lowell. Now, I should point something out. Firstly, theyre playing in the NCAA tournament Friday night against Minnesota State. If they lose, hes got a decision to make. He has not yet fully committed to making the decision that hes coming out of college. The likelihood is that he is, but he hasnt made that decision just yet. Lots of teams are getting the sense now that theyre out of it and that those teams I just mentioned are the front-runners. The NHL is apparently seeking officials... Dreger: Theyre calling it the NHL Exposure Combine and the belief is that theyre hoping to bring in upwards of 60 high-level prospects. Theyre going to collect these, literally, from around the world, but yes, they will send invites to certain universities and NCAA colleges for those graduating hockey players who perhaps want to pursue a career as an NHL on-ice official. Theyll hold the combine in August in Buffalo. There will be considerable physical testing but its all part of trying to expand the search and every other year, theyll do an amateur version. McKenzie: I smell a reality show coming: “So You Wanna Be a Ref?” Pierre LeBrun has a quick one-timer for us on Thomas Vanek. LeBrun: Vanek is obviously loving his time in Montreal so far but I spoke with his agent Steve Bartlett earlier on Tuesday who said the plan has not deviated. They told the Sabres last summer that theyre going to July 1. They told the Islanders after he got traded that its going to July 1 and that remains the plan right now. Lets see if a little playoff magic might change his mind. http://www.nflcoltsteamprostore.com/Youth-Vick-Ballard-Elite-Jersey/ .com) - Na Yeon Choi rallied to win the season-opening Coates Golf Championship on Saturday, but that didnt stop Lydia Ko from becoming the No. http://www.nflcoltsteamprostore.com/Youth-Jonathan-Newsome-Elite-Jersey/ . The result was a school-record 11 3-pointers -- the most ever in a Southeastern Conference game -- and career-high 37 points as Frazier helped the top-ranked Gators move a game away from a perfect SEC regular season with a 72-46 victory over South Carolina on Tuesday night. "They told me if I got a crack to let it go," Frazier said. That was the easy part for Frazier, the sophomore who frequently found himself open and made the Gamecocks pay. "Somehow, some way we didnt express to our players that Michael Frazier can shoot the basketball," South Carolina coach Frank Martin said. The Gators (28-2, 17-0 SEC) are a game away from going undefeated in the SEC, something no team not named Kentucky has accomplished since Alabamas 14-0 run in 1956. Florida coach Billy Donovan shrugged that off, preaching his players will take the same approach to Saturdays Senior Day meetings with the Wildcats as they have each game all season. "I still think theres things in front of this team," he said. "We cant get wrapped up in the moment." Fraziers performance topped the 1986 mark of Floridas Joe Lawrence, who had nine against California. It was also the most ever in a league contest, although Rotnei Clarke hit 13 in 2010 and Alex Dillard made 12 in 1994 but both Arkansas players did it against non-conference opponents. Frazier didnt feel anything special in warm-ups, but knew he was onto something with his five 3-pointers in the first half. In the second half, it was Frazier who broke things open with four 3s during a 23-5 run after the Gamecocks (11-19, 4-13) had cut a double-digit lead to 39-35. "We were just really amazed at how open he was getting and how he kept knocking them down," Florida centre Patric Young said. No other Gator reached double digits in points. Mindaugus Kacinas had 12 points to lead South Carolina, which was coming off a win over Kentucky. Frazier blew past his old career best off 21 points set earlier this season against Texas A&M. http://www.nflcoltsteamprostore.com/Youth-Greg-Toler-Elite-Jersey/. He was 11 of 18 from 3-point range while the rest of the Gators were 0 of 13. The Gators built an 11-point lead early in the second half but Brenton Williams had a four-point play and followed with a 3-pointer to get the Gamecocks within 39-35 with 13:05 left. But Frazier connected on a 3, Young had a three-point play and the rout was on. Frazier added four more 3-pointers over the next 6 minutes to stretch the lead to 62-39 with 4:42 left. As time wound down, South Carolina students chanted "Georgia Southern," reminding the Gators of their football loss to the FCS school last fall. Florida came in having clinched the SEC regular-season title last week when second-place Kentucky was beaten twice, including a surprise 72-67 loss here to the Gamecocks last Saturday. The Gators steadily moved through in pushing to the unbeaten conference season, a run that started in January with a 74-58 win over South Carolina. Florida, though, has not dominated on the road the way it has at home in recent weeks, winning its past four road games by an average of six points. This one proved just as tight for the top-ranked team in the first half. Frazier started off hot with two of his five first-half 3-pointers to give the Gators a 7-0 lead. Floridas defence forced three turnovers in the first 5 minutes. But the Gamecocks, still fresh from the court-storming celebration three days ago, took Floridas punch and came out swinging themselves with a 12-2 run to move in front and stayed with the nations top team the rest of the half. There were four ties and five lead changes over the final 10 minutes and it was Frazier who broke the last tie with his last 3 of the period to send the Gators to the break ahead 28-26. Frazier had 15 points in the period as the rest of Floridas big guns misfired in the opening half. Leading scorer Casey Prather was held to one free throw while Scottie Wilbekin was just 1-of-5 shooting for two points. Young finished with nine points and Prather had seven. Wilbekin did not score in the second half. Cheap JerseysWholesale JerseysWholesale JerseysCheap JerseysCheap NFL JerseysCheap Jerseys ChinaWholesale Jerseys ' ' '
TAMPA, Fla. http://www.airmax2016ca.com/nike-chaussures-roshe-run-nm-br-reflective-anti-fur-noir-coal-grise.html . -- Mike Glennon says hes not discouraged about losing Tampa Bays starting quarterback job before ever taking a snap for new coach Lovie Smith. The Buccaneers signed Josh McCown in free agency and immediately penciled the 34-year-old career backup in at the top of the depth chart. Glennon started 13 games as a rookie last season, when a 4-12 record claimed the jobs of former coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik. McCown had the best season of his career with Chicago a year ago. Now, the Bucs are counting of him to help Smith and new GM Jason Licht transform the struggling franchise into a championship contender. Instead of sulking, Glennon is vowing to push McCown, who signed a two-year, $10 million contract after throwing for 13 touchdowns and just one interception while filling in for an injured Jay Cutler with the Bears last season. The Bucs began off-season workouts this week. "Im going to go out there every day and compete and help the team win in whatever way possible," Glennon said. "Josh has been great so far to me. Its a great opportunity to work every day with a guy who has so much experience like that," the second-year pro added. "At the same time, just by my nature, Im going to go out there and compete. Whatever my role might be, Im going to do it to the best of my ability." Glennon was drafted in the third round last spring and moved into the lineup when Schiano benched former starter Josh Freeman three games into the season. He threw for 19 TDs vs. nine interceptions, however the Bucs went 4-9 in the games he started and finished last in the NFL in total offence. "I think there were a lot of things that were good, and theres definitely things I can work on," said Glennon, who completed 59 per cent of his passes for 2,608 yards. "I think overall I played well for the situation at hand, something to really build on at a young age. But it really doesnt matter. At this level, you have to win," the 24-year-old said. "There are things I need to work on, just continuing to develop as a NFL quarterback. Make better decisions here and there, work on my feet, throwing under pressure -- all the things every quarterback in the NFL is working on." Shortly after signing McCown, Smith telephoned Glennon to inform the young quarterback that the veteran was being brought in as the starter. McCown, who turns 35 in July, is 16-22 in 38 career starts spread over 11 seasons with the Bears, Cardinals, Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, 49ers and Panthers. He was 3-2 as Cutlers replacement last year, helping Chicago remain in playoff contention until the starter returned. "He just said to start out theres got to be a person to start, that goes out with the first group first, and that persons going to be Josh," Glennon said, recalling the conversation with Smith. "I understand the NFL is a business. ... I realize that Im just going to have to continue to work hard and prove myself," the second-year pro added. "But at the same time, Im going to do whatever he feels is best for the team." During the recent NFL meetings in Orlando, Smith didnt rule out the possibility of selecting another quarterback in the upcoming draft. He stressed, however, that thats not to say he doesnt believe Glennon has a promising future. "What we like is how he came in as a rookie in a tough situation and stayed focused," Smith said. "Quarterbacks have to have confidence in themselves, they have to put a lot of things out and just perform and do their job. And thats what he did." Nike Air Max 2016 . ST. http://www.freeflyknit-au.com/men-s-kd-8-australia-nike-ep-shoes-dark-grey-grey-black-800259-663.html . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Colby Rasmus has become a part-time player with Toronto. He made the most of his only at-bat Thursday night. Rasmus delivered a pinch-hit homer in the 10th inning and the Blue Jays earned their first three-game sweep at Tampa Bay with a 1-0 victory over the Rays. "It feels good, but I wasnt going up with the intent to try and show anything that I havent shown before," Rasmus said. "I just wanted to go up there and try and help my team." Rasmus led off the 10th with a long drive into the right-field seats against Steve Geltz (0-1), sending Toronto to its fifth straight win. Tampa Bay had runners at first and third with none out, and the bases loaded with one out, in the ninth. But reliever Brett Cecil (2-3) worked out of the jam by striking out three in the inning. Casey Janssen got three outs for his 21st save. "For whatever reason, this has been a tough place for us to come play," Cecil said. "I dont know about the other guys, but for me, we play in a dome also, but it opens and here it just doesnt to me have a baseball feel to it when youre out there during the game. Youve got to put all those adversities aside." Toronto won the first two games of the series to stop a streak of 22 consecutive winless road series (including one in Orlando) against the Rays dating to April 6-8, 2007. "Worked out just right," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. Both starters, Torontos Mark Buehrle and the Rays Jake Odorizzi, had impressive outings. Buehrle, who is 1-8 in 16 starts since June 7, allowed five hits, one walk and struck out four over eight innings. He started the season by winning 10 of 11 decisions over his first 12 starts. Odorizzi, coming off a 7-0 win Saturday over Boston in which he allowed just one hit, gave up three hits, walked none and had three strikeouts in 7 1-3 innings. "We have exceeded cardinal sins, mortal sins, original sins -- weve passed them all up," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "We have totally wasted a lot of good pitching." Anthony Gose had a one-out double in the sixth, but Odorizzi got a liner from Jose Reyes and struck out Melky Cabrera. Buehrle retired Ryan Hanigan on a foul pop fly with two runners on to end the second. The Rays have been shut out 17 times this season. Toronto has 14 shutout victories. TRAINERS ROOM Blue Jays: RHP Chad Jenkins is expected to miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his pitching hand while shagging balls in batting practice -- making him the second Toronto pitcher in two days to get hurt during pregame warmups. RHP R.A. Dickey threw 62 pitches Thursday during his regular bullpen session between starts, one day after he was struck in the head by Evan Longorias drive while standing in the left-field corner during BP. Rays: CF Desmond Jennings is frustrated by lingering left knee soreness, but hopes to play before the season ends. He has missed seven straight games. TALL ORDER Tampa Bay has to finish 15-6 for a seventh consecutive winning season. The Rays are 31-41 at home. "Theres where weve messed up," Maddon said. "I dont have any solid reasons." JANSSENS JOB Janssen is now sharing the closer role with rookie Aaron Sanchez and has offered to pitch in innings other than the final one. Janssen entered Thursday with a 7.47 ERA since the All-Star break. UP NEXT Blue Jays: RHP Drew Hutchison (9-11) and Red Sox RHP Allen Webster (3-3) are the scheduled starters Friday night at Fenway Park. Rays: RHP Alex Cobb (9-7) is set to face Baltimore LHP Wei-Yin Chen (14-4) on Friday night.
