SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau found the perfect way to celebrate their new contract extensions. Thornton scored his second goal of the game with 1:30 remaining in overtime to lead the San Jose Sharks to their sixth straight win, 3-2 over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Marleau also scored as the two longtime Sharks shined one day after signing three-year deals that will keep them in San Jose through the 2016-17 season. "For me and Patty both to score, its a great night for us," Thornton said. Antti Niemi made 20 saves and Joe Pavelski and Matt Irwin had two assists apiece as the Sharks overcame a 2-0 deficit to get their third six-game winning streak of the season. "Theyre our guys, and we need them when were down," Irwin said. "Jumbo got us to within one and Patty tied it up and obviously Jumbo won it in overtime. Theyre our guys. Its just kind of ironic what happened." Matt Cooke and Keith Ballard scored for the Wild, who built an early lead on the opener of a four-game road trip but still lost for the ninth time in their past 10 trips to San Jose. Darcy Kuemper made 29 saves as Minnesota lost for just the fourth time in 12 games this month. "We got a point against a good team in a tough building to play," Ballard said. "For the most part we played a fairly solid game. We werent the best at times. But we hung in there and even after they got those two quick goals, I thought we responded pretty well. We just couldnt find the time to get the third one tonight." Thornton and Pavelski combined on the game-winning play by causing a turnover at the blue line. Pavelski then fed Thornton, who beat Kuemper with a wrist shot from the top of the circle to end it with his ninth career overtime goal and first since Nov. 26, 2008, against Chicago. Pavelski assisted on both of Thorntons goals in a bit of a role reversal after Thornton helped set up many of his 19 goals in the previous 21 games. "Ive been telling Pav, Youve been scoring too much. Start passing the puck. And he finally listened," Thornton said. "I dont too often, but Pav just made two good plays and luckily I put them in." The Wild struck first on a nifty play by Cooke midway through the first period. Cooke deflected Thorntons cross-ice pass to Brad Stuart in the neutral zone. Cooke then beat Stuart to the loose puck and skated in on Niemi before beating him with a forehand for his eighth goal. They added onto the lead early in the second when Mikael Granlund fed Ballard for a one-timer that beat Niemi. It was Ballards first goal since Oct. 6, 2011, for Vancouver against Pittsburgh, ending a drought of 114 games without a goal. But that was all the Wild would get as they managed just 12 shots in the final 39-plus minutes. They spent much of the game on the defensive as they won just 18 of 59 faceoffs. "We lost the extra point because of the face-off circle tonight," coach Mike Yeo said. "We spent the entire night chasing and its inevitable that they will put you on your heels and give them some momentum. We never started with the puck. That was the big story." Minnesota dominated the opening half of the second period, limiting San Jose to one shot in the first 11-plus minutes before Thornton and Marleau delivered a day after getting their new contracts. Thornton struck first when Pavelski fed him for a one-timer that he knocked past Kuemper on a knuckler. Just 49 seconds later, Marleau scored his 22nd of the season when Tommy Wingels fanned on the original shot but still managed to get the puck to Marleau, who deflected it past Kuemper to tie the game. NOTES: Thornton has 40 career multigoal games. ... Minnesota F Jason Pominville got his 500th career point with an assist on Ballards goal. ... San Jose juggled its top two lines the second half of the game with Matt Nieto playing with Thornton and Pavelski and Brent Burns moving to a wing with Marleau and Wingels. PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson cupped his hand to his left ear and asked to hear his favourite tune one more time. With that command, 20,000 roaring Philadelphia 76ers fans gave AI the standing ovation he earned by stamping himself as one of the franchises all-time greats. Iverson, emotional as he thanked former teammates and friends, had his No. 3 retired at halftime of Saturdays game against Washington. High above the Wells Fargo Center court, Iversons banner slipped between Maurice Cheeks No. 10 and Charles Barkleys No. 34. "They all wanted me to talk about how much yall loved me," Iverson said, "but trust me, the feeling was mutual." Iverson officially retired in October after last playing in 2010. He won four scoring titles for the Sixers and was the 2001 MVP when he led them to the NBA Finals. He never won a championship, the lone omission in a career that is destined for the Hall of Fame. The Sixers may as well have turned the arena into an AI museum. Four banners greeted fans at the main concourse entrance, and photos of him were plastered all around the arena. The merchandise stands sold Iverson jerseys for $130, and lower level tickets were going for as much for $1,280 on Stubhub about an hour before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The fans loved him, and he blew them kisses after the No. 3 was raised to show how much he loved them back. "I am Philly," Iverson said. "Its always going to be that way." Iversons return injected a rare dose of excitement into a franchise playing some of the worst basketball in the league. The Sixers, in full-blown rebuilding mode, had lost 12 straight entering Saturdays game. The losing didnt matter much Saturday, just the memories. The Sixers wore special "Iverson Forever" patches on their jerseys and Iversons 3 on their pregame warmup shirts. "Its a great example of how this city responds to somebody that they clearly think the world of and brought such exciting times to the city of Philadelphia," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. The Sixers retirement gift was a boat named in honour of his nickname, "The Answer." "It feels good," Iverson said after the ceremony, "but some part of my heart hurts because I know its over." Iverson joined Cheeks, Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain and Julius Erving among the eight retired numbers in franchise history. Erving attended thhe ceremony.dddddddddddd Moses Malone, Dikembe Mutombo, Theo Ratliff, Gary Payton and former team president Pat Croce also were at the celebration. Former coach Larry Brown, who both clashed with and loved Iverson over their tenure, sent a videotaped message. "I just want to tell you, and I say this fondly: God put me there to coach you," Brown said. Iverson said Brown was the player who moulded him into one of the NBAs best. "I always had raw talent," he said. "I needed Larry Brown to polish it up." Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft and spent his first 10 seasons in Philadelphia. He also played for Denver, Detroit, and Memphis before returning to Philadelphia for a 25-game stint in 2009-10. Iverson, who mashed hip-hop culture and hoops like no player before him, was perhaps at his peak in his fifth NBA season. The 165-pound guard averaged 31.1 points, was the MVP of the All-Star game and propped an entire franchise on his 6-foot frame all the way to the finals. Led by Brown, the Sixers needed Game 7 wins in consecutive series for the right to play the Lakers. Shaquille ONeal, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers swept their way through the post-season before Game 1 in Los Angeles. Iverson had 48 points in 52 minutes of an overtime victory. The Sixers didnt have enough to go the distance and the Lakers won the next four games. Hes 21st on the NBAs career scoring list with 24,368 points over 914 career games. Iverson, drafted out of Georgetown, scored 30-plus points 345 times and was an 11-time All-Star. His No. 3 jersey was a bestseller around the globe, the headband wrapped snugly around his cornrows, and the tattoos were as much a part of his image as the way he ricochets around the court. Play every game like it was his last was more than a catchphrase, it was a lifestyle. "Who could not be an Allen Iverson fan?" said Thaddeus Young, the lone current Sixers player who played with Iverson. "It got no bigger than him in Philadelphia." NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was at the game for AIs night. "Allen was a special player," Silver said before the game. "The great things he did for the league far outweigh the occasional headache. I always thought even at the time of Allen Iversons prominence in the league, he was representative of his generation." REGINA -- The players wont be the only ones in a huddle at Sundays Grey Cup. Justin Verlander Jersey . Thousands of fans at Mosaic Stadium will be cozying up to each other in an effort to stay warm in chilly temperatures and block the Prairie wind that locals say can knock your socks off. "Saskatchewans notorious for its wind," says Trevor Norgan, assistant manager of Fresh Air Experience, an outdoor clothing and equipment store in Regina. "Theres not a lot of shelter because we dont have a lot of trees and things, so it just really continues across the entire province. So you get these cold fronts that come in and the key thing that I have found is if a person can stay comfortable, and basically block the wind but have a little bit of insulation, thats the key ingredient." When the Saskatchewan Roughriders hosted the CFL West Division semifinal against the B.C. Lions on Nov. 10, Environment Canada said the temperature at halftime was -15 C. It was a biting -21 C with the windchill. The weather this week in Regina has been bitterly cold with Wednesdays high -17 C. A bit of relief may be coming with temperatures expected to rise to just below zero by gameday, though the low for Sunday is -14. Norgan recommends layers to stay warm. He starts with a lightweight base layer shirt in a merino wool because it can wick away moisture and doesnt smell the way a synthetic material can, and tops that with a fleece sweater. Those can be followed by down sweaters and a windproof exterior shell "to block that great Saskatchewan wind we have here" or a down-filled parka. The bottom is just as important, says Norgan. For the legs, longjohns are a must. Ski or snow pants that block wind are a plus too. Norgan says children and women may need to dress a little bit warmer because they tend to feel the cold more then men, but "it just depends how rambunctious and active you are during the game." "The important thing is basically to stay comfortable because you want to enjoy the experience at the game. Its one of those things where you dont want to feel that youre cold or you dont want to feel that you wished you had something else," says Norgan. Dave Ash, a tour organizer and super fan who is best known for wearing a flashing green light mounted on a Riders helmet, swears by goose down-filled jackets. Of course, Ash tops all of that with a Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey big enough to fit over the parka. "As part of any Grey Cup festivities, the most important thing is a little survival kit," says Ash. "Inside youll have a warming blanket, but the most important things are these two items: handwarmers and toe warmers -- a must for Grey Cup. Youre going to be outside in the cold for three hours. The only way to fight the cold is with heat, remember that." Ash says another must is a seat cushion to separate your bum from the cold benches at Mosaic Stadium. The Regina tour organizer, who has been to 38 consecutive Grey Cups and plans to be there on Sunday, says the coldest was probably the first Grey Cup he attended in Calgary in 1975. "It was really cold and there was a streaker at that game," Ash says with a laugh. "It was really cold." Norgan remembers going to the Grey Cup as a kid in 1995 and its the cold that stands out for him too. "It was shocking, like I couldnt describe it any more than shocking," recalls Norgan. "I can remember the wind was so vicious that if somebody moved four or five seats down, you could feel the wind coming up, so it was actually a community effort to stay warm. "You see the athletes huddling on the side. You can everybody else in the stands huddling as well." Ian Kinsler Tigers Jersey . Many have surmised that both Jim and Jim were in on the melee and the whole episode was rehearsed. Neither party has ever admitted to staging the fight, and the sentiments were likely real.DALLAS - Monta Ellis equaled his season high with 38 points, including 11 during the final four minutes, to spark a late rally as the Dallas Mavericks beat the depleted San Antonio Spurs 99-93 Saturday in Rajon Rondos debut with the Mavericks.Ellis broke a 91-91 tie with a basket from the right corner that sailed over the corner of the backboard to give Dallas the lead for good.Rondo, the four-time All-Star who played his first eight-plus seasons with the Boston Celtics, finished with six points on 3-for-11 shooting. MIAMI -- In their fitful, laborious search for a general manager, the Miami Dolphins finally found someone to say yes: Dennis Hickey. Cody Zeller Jersey . The longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive accepted the job Sunday, ending a search that lasted nearly three weeks. Hickeys hiring came after the Dolphins were rejected by several candidates. New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio and Tennessee Titans vice-president of player personnel Lake Dawson turned down job offers only hours before Miami reached out to Hickey, while Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer withdrew from consideration Thursday. Several others declined invitations to interview as a replacement for Jeff Ireland, whose six-year stint as general manager ended Jan. 7 when he and owner Stephen Ross agreed to part ways. Hickey has been with the Buccaneers for 18 seasons, including the past three as director of player personnel. He was their director of college scouting for six years. He was not interviewed for Tampa Bays GM job when it became open after this season. The Bucs won four division titles and one Super Bowl championship during his time with them, but went 28-52 over the past five years and had spotty draft results during that span. Hickey was among eight candidates interviewed by Miami, with Ross aide Matt Higgins and executive vice-president of football administration Dawn Aponte helping the owner with the screening process. The other finalist was Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine, who worked under Ireland. Some candidates and potential candidates expressed concern about the Dolphins power structure, including the role of Aponte, who clashed with Ireland. In a news release to announce the hiring, the Dolphins said Hickey will oversee all aspects of football operations and report directly to Ross. Coach Joe Philbin will continue to report directly to Ross as well, while Apontes place in the chain of command wasnt spelled out. Ross loyalty to Philbin, who is 15-17 in two seasons with Miami, may have been a stumbling block for some candidates. In a statement, Ross cited Hickeys willingness to work with Philbin as a factor in the hiring. "When we started the search, I outlined qualities that I was looking for in this position," Ross said. "These included a collaborative team-first person who can work with Joe, demonstrated player evaluation expertise, and someone who is open-minded and creative. Dennis fit all of these criteria." The Titans Dawson released a statement saying he had declined Miamis job offer. "I felt Stephen is a great owner, passionate and wants to win, but the details of the offer didnt align with my vision," Dawson said. "I turned it down because it wasnt an ideal fit for my family and me." So Ross turned to Hickey, who was interviewed for the first time 10 days into the search. The protracted process reinforced Ross reputation for having difficulty closing deals with the Dolphins. In the past, the New York real estate billionaire has unsuccessfully courted Peyton Manning, Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher. Hickeys task will be to upgrade the roster after Miami collapsed late in the season to blow a playoff berth and finish 8-8. The Dolphins havent been above .500 since 2008, the longest such stretch in franchise history. The tumultuous 2013 season included a locker-room bullying scandal that drew national scrutiny, and a report on the NFL investigation into the case will be released after the Super Bowl. "The Dolphins certainly have talented players," Hickey said in a statement, "and I am eager to hit the ground running with our personnel and coaching staffs. We will all work together to construct a team that will make our organization and fans proud." Hickey will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday. AP Sports Writer Teresa M. Rolando McClain wants to return to the NFL and the Baltimore Ravens activated the linebacker off the reserve-retired list. Anton Stralman Jersey . McClain worked out with the Ravens earlier in the week and according to reports it didnt go well. McClain showed up late to the workout and failed to complete his conditioning tests. Its unknown whether the Ravens, who said they would welcome back McClain if he shows that he has matured, activated the linebacker so that he could participate in the teams off-season team workouts or so that they could release him. McClain, a top 10 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, was a bust with the Oakland Raiders. Higuain had an effort ruled marginally offside and Cristian Maggio hit the post as Napoli threatened to take the lead on several occasions. The home side finally made the most of its opportunities 11 minutes after halftime when Higuain, who had been threatening all night, headed home a delightful cross from Inler. The Argentine doubled his tally eight minutes from time to take his season tally to 16 in all competitions. Shortly beforehand, Mario Balotelli broke down in tears on the bench after being substituted off following a below-par performance from the Italy striker. "Everyone expresses emotions in that way," Milan coach Clarencee Seedorf said. Superstar Supercolor PHARRELL WILLIAMS Adidas Uomo/Donna SOLAR Gialle Scarpe. "Its not the first time its happened to a player. It was a particular moment for him. Its happened to me before, too." It was Seedorfs first league defeat of his fledgling managerial career. Also, Udinese beat Chievo Verona 3-0 in a relegation battle. Josip Ilicic broke the deadlock in Florence in the 16th minute when he curled a superb free kick into the near top right corner from 25 metres. Atalantas hopes of getting anything from the match all but evaporated when it was reduced to 10 men nine minutes from time following Luca Cigarinis second booking. Substitute Rafal Wolski sealed the match in the 86th, racing almost half the length of the pitch and holding off defenders before firing across into the bottom left corner for his first Serie A goal. Udinese had lost four of its past five Serie A matches, while Chievo was without a win in its past seven, scoring only four goals during that period. Chievo almost took the lead on the half hour when Cyril Thereaus back-heeled effort crashed off the base of the upright. Udinese went in front in the 56th when Antonio Di Natale brought down Dusan Bastas pass and volleyed across into the bottom left corner for his third goal in as many matches. Substitute Bruno Fernandes tapped home Roberto Pereyras cross in the 74th and Emmanuel Badu added a third shortly before fulltime. Udinese moved provisionally nine points clear of the relegation zone and eight points ahead of Chievo. MORGANTOWN, W. Adidas Running Ultra Boost Army Green/Grey Shoes Mens/Womens .Va. -- Its NCAA chances all but gone, West Virginia showed it still has some fight left in a lacklustre season. West Virginia built a 25-point lead and had to withstand 41 points by freshman Andrew Wiggins and a furious comeback by No. 8 Kansas to upset the Jayhawks 92-86 in their Big 12 regular-season finale Saturday. "We just had to stay composed, not get too down, dont say, dang, theyre going to come back," said Eron Harris, who led West Virginia with 28 points. "Youve got to always have confidence in your team that youre going to win." The Mountaineers (17-14, 9-9 Big 12) could have finished with a thud like they had in losing four of their five previous games that reduced them to playing for a spot in the NIT. The young Mountaineers, who have no seniors, watched Kansas tear into the deficit behind Wiggins, who set a season high for scoring and a freshman record for the Jayhawks before fouling out in the final seconds. He also eight rebounds, four blocks and five steals, to go along with 12-of-18 shooting from the field. Ben McLemore has the Kansas single-game freshman scoring record with 36 last season. West Virginia made some clutch free throws in the final minute to thwart the comeback and keep coach Bob Huggins sanity intact. "When we get a little more experience, well handle those things a little better," said Huggins, who earned $25,000 for beating Kansas in the regular season, one of the bonus clauses in a 2012 contract extension. Juwan Staten added 24 points and Devin Williams, WVUs star freshman, had a season-high 22 points along with 13 rebounds. It marked the first time this season that Kansas had allowed three opposing players to score 20 points. "I thought Staten controlled the game," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Harris was terrific and Williams was by far the best big in the game. "They were terrific and then we didnt guard at all. Weve gone through stretches this year where we havent guarded well, but thats probably as poor as weve been. But give them credit, they were a lot better than us offensively than we were defensively." West Virginia shot 53 per cent from the floor and outrebounded Kansas 37-31. Perry Ellis added 14 points for Kansas (23-8, 14-4), which clinched its 10th straight regular-season title a week ago and had little riding on this game. The Jayhawks will have a first-round bye in the conference tournament that begins Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas was without 7-foot freshman Joel Embiid, who sat out his second straight game to rest a lower back strain. Tarik Black, starting in Embiids place, went to the bench with his second foul four minutes into the game. The Mountaineers led nearly the entire game but fell apart down the stretch. Still, West Virginia managed to beat a ranked team for the third time in seven tries over the past month. Kansas went more than seven minutes without a field goal spanning the halves and found itself with its biggest deficit of the season, 64-39, with 16:43 left in the game after a Harris 3-pointer. But the Mountaineers have had trouble holding double-digit leads this season, and Kansas -- especially Wiggins -- was hardly done. West Virginia struggled against Kansas full-court press, and Wiggins followed Landen Lucas three-point play with four free throws and a 3-pointer over a 47-second span to pull Kansas within 78-68 with 6:13 remaining. Wiggins scored 14 straight points at one point for the Jayhawks. Frank Masons 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 85-80 with 1:24 left. But West Virginia made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to hang on. Backups Lucas and Jamari Traylor couldnt keep up with Williams, who scored 10 straight points for the Mountaineers at one point. He had 18 in the first half to give the Mountaineers a 50-38 halftime lead -- the most points given up by the Jayhawks in the first half this season. "I thought Devin played really well," Huggins said. "(He) scored it through contact and made open shots, which he does in practice. And then he rebounds the ball for us. Hes the one guy who can really go rebound it in a crowd." West Virginia had its second sellout of the season, thanks to hundreds of Kansas fans who made the 900-mile trek east and those especially coming to see Wiggins, who played his high school ball on the other side of the state at Huntington Prep. "Ive never seen him play like that," Huggins said. "When he makes shots hes really difficult to defend." Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Brad Hawpe capped off San Diegos big rally with a two-run homer in the ninth inning, as the Padres came back from a six-run deficit to beat the Rockies, 9-7, in the second test of a three-game series. Adidas Originals Superstar Ireland . Ex-Rockie Hawpe went 3-for-5 with three runs scored for the Padres, who bounced back from a 12-7 loss in the opener of this series on Friday. Eric Patterson also drove in two runs. Aaron Harang lasted just 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits. Mike Adams (2-0) tossed a scoreless eighth to pick up the win. Carlos Gonzalez and Todd Helton each hit solo homers for the Rockies, who have lost three of four. Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki each knocked in two runs in defeat. Jhoulys Chacin went six-plus frames in the start for Colorado, giving up five runs -- three earned -- on five hits. Huston Street (0-1) gave up the homer to Hawpe to take the loss. Its on us as a staff. We didnt make our pitches and execute down the stretch, Street said of the bullpen giving up the lead. Down 7-1, the Padres got back in the game with a four-run seventh. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out. Patterson then hit a grounder back to Chacin, who failed to field to the ball cleanly. His throw to first was way off the mark, and two runs scored on the play. Matt Lindstrom came in from the bullpen and gave up an RBI infield single to Chris Denorfia. Jason Bartlett hit a sacrifice fly two batters later to cut the gap to 7-5. San Diego added two more runs in the eighth to tie the game. Rafael Betancourt gave up consecutive singles to Hawpe and Cameron Maybin to put men on the corners, and Ryan Ludwick followed with a sacrifice fly. A balk by Betancourt put Maybin on second, and he crossed the plate on Pattersons base hit to center. Hawpe put the Padres in front in the ninth. With a man on first and two outs, Hawpe smacked Streets offering over the wall in right for a 9-7 lead. Heath Bell tossed a perfect home ninth for his 100th career save. Ive been thinking about that moment for several months now, Hawpe said about homering against his former team. It ranks up there as a good feeling for me as far as baseball goes. The Padres got on the board in the second. Hawpe and Maybin led off the frame with consecutive singles, and two batters later, Kyle Phillips hit an RBI single to center. Colorado failed to score with the bases loaded in the home second, but scored four times in the third. Dexter Fowler walked, moved to second on Jonathan Herreras bunt single and crossed the plate on Gonzalezs base hit. Tulowitzki followed with a two-run double to left-center field, but was thrown out while trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Helton then hit a solo homer to center for a 4-1 lead. Gonzalezs solo homer to right in the fourth gave the Rockies a four-run margin. Colorado tacked on two more runs in the fifth for a 7-1 lead. Helton walked and Seth Smith hit a ground-rule double to left to put men on second and third. Ty Wigginton followed with an RBI single. Chris Iannetta plated Smith with a sacrifice fly. Chacin retired 12 straight batters before giving up a one-out double to Bartlett in the sixth. But San Diego got to Chacin in the seventh. The Jets are now 5-2 in shootouts on the season. The win snapped Calgarys six-game winless skid, and snapped the Jets four-game home winning streak. The Jets are now 0-2-1 in the second game of back to backs. After their four-game winning streak was snapped Sunday night in Minnesota, the Jets record sits at 10-10-3.The Rogers Centre was an incredible facility when it was built and then unveiled in June of 1989. But as the years have gone by, fans look on with envy at the state-of-the-art baseball-only facilities that have been constructed and wonder, why couldnt it have been us? Now comes word the Atlanta Braves are ready to leave Turner Field, their home since 1997, to move into a spanking new $672 million ediface in Cobb County in time for the 2017 season, although no official contract has been signed yet. The Braves owners couldnt come to a new lease agreement to stay at Turner Field so now, with the help of the good taxpayers, Cobb County will get a new 42,000-seat ballpark with all of the amenities. The Braves have only been in Atlanta since 1966. They have played 48 seasons there and overall have been a success story. TBS helped make them Americass team and they had a run over 14 straight years in the post-season (albeit with only one World Series victory). Their attendance has been good, but never spectacular. Going back to 2006, the lowest theyve drawn is 2.37 million in 2009 and 2011. They peaked at 2.75 million in 2007 over that eight-year span. This past season, they drew 2.55 million, virtually the same as the Blue Jays. I guess what Im saying is, there doesnt really seem to be the need for a new baseball stadium in the greater Atlanta area. If this new one is indeed ready by 2017, the Braves will have played in three stadia in 52 years in the same city. If they can do it, and the taxpayers can live with it, more power to them. The Blue Jays are coming up to their 25th full season at Rogers Centre. There is no new home in the forseeable future for the Jays, just natural grass by 2018 or so. It would be great to see the Blue Jays have the kind of ballpark they have in Pittsburgh, San Francisco or Baltimore. But to see Atlanta leaving a facility that was constructed for the 1996 Olympics after just 20 seasons just seems so wrong. Trade Rumours There used to be a time when there seemed to be lull after the World Series until the Winter Meetings in December but no more. With the General Managers Meetings starting Monday in Orlando, baseball talk will be at a fever pitch with free agent signings being negotiated and the groundwork being laid for trades. The Blue Jays top priority is at least one, if not two, starting pitchers, who would fit in as 1-2 or 3s. They also need an upgrade behind the plate and help at second base. There was another interesting rumour that surfaced over the weekend with Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggesting the Dodgers were trying to move one of their high-priced outfielders, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp and/or Carl Crawford. http://www.stansmithireland.com/originals-adidas-zx-750-trainers/adidas-zx-750-grey.html. Cafardo claimed the Blue Jays were at least exploring the possibility of landing one of the three over concerns that Melky Cabrera would never be the player they thought when they signed him to that two-year deal last year. Though they seemed to have an endless supply of money, the Dodgers apparently want to deal one of these monster contracts to free up the cash to lock up Clayton Kershaw and Hanley Ramirez. It doesnt make any real sense for the Blue Jays to be chasing any of those three, considering the size and duration of their contracts and the health issues of all three over the past couple of seasons. Time Flies Here is an odd coincidence I dug up this week. In their first season, veteran Bill Singer was a highly touted righthander who was expected to lead the expansion staff. Thanks in large part to arm troubles that ultimately ended his career after 1977, Singer went 2-8 with a 6.79 ERA. This past season, the Blue Jays aquired Josh Johnson to be a top-end starter and possible ace. Again thanks to a myriad of physical troubles, Johnson wound up with a record of, you guessed it, 2-8 and a 6.20 ERA. The difference is, Johnson still might be able to land a one-year deal worth $8-10 million on the open market this off-season. I was wondering the other day if we had officially closed the book on the 20th century. That is to say, are there any former Blue Jays still active from the 1999 team? It turns out there are two: Harry Leroy (Roy) Halladay the III and Vernon Michael Wells the III. Halladay was in his first full season with the Jays in 1999, going 8-7 with a 3.92 earned run average. Wells was making his rookie debut in 1999, hit his first Major League homer and knocked in eight runs in 88 at bats. Halladay is a free agent now. He was born May 14th, 1977. On that day the Blue Jays got drilled 13-3 by the Twins at old Metropolitan Stadium. Wells is going into the final year of his contract with the Yankees at $21 million, the bulk of which is still being paid by the Angels. Incidentally, the highest paid Blue Jay in 1999 was current Jays coach Pat Hentgen at $8.6 million. And Shawn Green, who turned 41 on Sunday, was part of that team. How time flies and the times change. Cheap Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys ' ' '
Sometimes statistics just dont mean much. Adidas ZX 700 Sneaker . The Jets were leading 2-0 going into the third period in Ottawa, yet all the stats favoured an Ottawa comeback.   The Senators lead the league in wins when trailing after two periods, had scored 66 third period goals to the Jets 27, the Jets had been outscored 12-1 in the third period in the last six games, and so on and so on. Goaltender Chris Mason and his teammates simply felt if they kept pressing, kept stopping the Ottawa attack in the neutral zone as they had for two periods, kept winning face offs and blocking shots, they would be fine. And, fine they were, as they snapped their three game losing streak, and at the same time snapped Ottawas four game winning streak with a 2-0 win.   Mason made 25 saves for his second shutout of the year and 23rd of his career.  It was the fifth team shutout of the year. Jim Slater opened the scoring 49 seconds into the game, redirecting a Chris Thorburn pass through the legs of Craig Anderson. The goal came after the Senators top line of Jason Spezza, Milan Michalik and Colin Greening applied some early pressure. "We tired them out in our end and then went down and scored. Good tactic," quipped Coach Claude Noel postgame. Toby Enstrom picked up his second goal of the year on a great pass from Kyle Wellwood  6:48 into the second period.  The Jets outshot the Senators 13-3 in the first, and 12-8 in the second before the Sens pressed in the third and outshot the Jets 14-10. Mason would have liked a little more work early. "I actually was getting cold because there was nothing happening in our end of the ice. We played a great road game." Mason has now won five of his last six games. Should he start in New Jersey, and that is a possibility, it would be his 299th NHL game. The loss was the Sens first in regulation in 10 games as they came into the game on an 8-0-1 run. Jets will look to win the second game of back to back situations for the first time this season as they travel to New Jersey. (TSN Jets, TSN 1290) "It was a good 60 minute game for us. We made them earn their ice," added Coach Noel. "We got a consistent effort from all 20 guys. It was a satisfying win. We had this black cloud over our third periods but we stayed with it." It would be tough to find a player that did not put in a solid effort. Some of the games numbers: Eric Fehr a season high 5 shots, Toby Enstrom a season high 6 shots. He also lead the team in ice time at 24:35. Nik Antropov won 7 of 10 face offs, Bryan Little won 11 of 19. As a team the Jets blocked 23 shots, Ron Hainsey with four. Jets were minus Blake Wheeler who was left at home for precautionary reasons after taking a puck to the throat area against New Jersey. Its hoped he will be ready for Thursdays home game against Buffalo. Still nothing definite on the return of Zach Bogosian or Dustin Byfuglien. Alexandre Burmistrov played on the line with Little and Evander Kane. Cheap Adidas Shoes Online .No terms were released but a raise was expected. It started with pregame standing ovations for the leaders of the Celtics last championship team and ended with an 85-79 win for the Brooklyn Nets after Garnett picked off Rajon Rondos turnover and dribbled in slowly for an uncontested basket with 20 seconds left Sunday night. "I knew they needed a 3 at that point and I just played the passing lane," Garnett said. "I thought I was going to get caught, but I got it." That gave Brooklyn an 82-77 lead. It was a rare highlight for the returning stars in a game in which they fought to control their emotions while still trying to contribute to their current team. "I had lumps in my throat and I tried to focus as much as I could," Pierce said. "Im happy we got it over with and I can go back to playing basketball." Pierce, the second leading scorer in Celtics history, and Garnett scored just six points each, and Pierce missed eight of his 10 shots. But they received several standing ovations on the court where they won the teams 17th championship in 2008. They also were honoured in tributes shown on the video screen early in the game six months after a blockbuster trade sent them to Brooklyn. "It was, by far, the hardest day that I had to focus," said Garnett, a 19-year veteran. "Its a good homecoming." Andray Blatche scored 17 points and Alan Anderson and Andrei Kirilenko had 11 each as the Nets won for the 10th time in 11 games. The Celtics, losing for the 17th time in 20 games, were led by Brandon Bass with 17 points. Rondo had 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists one night after having dinner with Pierce and Garnett. During the video tribute to Garnett in a timeout with 2:25 left in the first quarter, he stood near his bench with a white towel draped over his head. He smiled, pounded the left side of his chest and waved several times to the crowd. The tribute to Pierce at the end of the first quarter was longer and drew a louder ovation. He looked up at the video board above centre court with a sombre expression. The camera panned to him on the court showing him repeatedly mouthing the words, "thank you.. Adidas ZX 750 NZ. " Celtics coach Brad Stevens quickly gave his players instructions then let them watch the tributes. "It was the right thing to do," he said. "Not much in my life is bigger than the next possession, but that is." Pierce spent 15 seasons with the Celtics after they drafted him with the 10th pick in 1998. Garnett was obtained in a trade with Minnesota before the 2007-08 season and, with Pierce and Ray Allen, led Boston to their most recent championship. But the Celtics are in full rebuilding mode now and trailed 59-53 after three quarters then allowed the first six points of the fourth as the Nets led by 12. Boston cut the lead to 73-70 on a 3-pointer by Chris Johnson, playing on a 10-day contract, with 4:37 remaining. The Nets scored the next five points on a layup by Kirilenko, a free throw by Deron Williams and a jumper by Pierce. That made it 78-70. With the score 80-72, Boston cut the deficit to three on a field goal by Bass and a 3-pointer by Rondo, two of only five current Celtics who played with Pierce and Garnett last season. "We got caught up in (their return)," Bass said, "but for the most part we had a job to do." Joe Johnson then missed his shot and Rondo rebounded, giving Boston a chance to tie with a 3-pointer. He moved the ball upcourt only to lose it to Garnett, who went in for Brooklyns final field goal. "Hes done it all year for us defensively," Nets coach Jason Kidd said. "Hes always in the right place at the right time." Pierce scored his first two points of the game on free throws 1:08 into the third quarter then hit his first field goal, a 16-foot jumper that capped a 10-0 Nets run 2:51 into the period. "It was just a special thing for me," Pierce said, "through my bad times, through my immature times, through my growing up, becoming a man for this city and winning a championship, everybody sticking with me. I would just like to tell them, thank you. " NOTES: The crowd gave Pierce and Garnett a standing ovation when they took the court for pregame warm-ups and when they were the last two Nets starters introduced. ... Garnett won the opening tip against Bass and got the ball back to Pierce. ... The Celtics recalled centre Vitor Faverani from the Maine Red Claws of the NBDL. LA PLAGNE, France -- Canadian skicross star Marielle Thompson capped her dream season in style Sunday by winning her second career Crystal Globe. http://www.footballseahawksfanatics.com/authentic-braylon-edwards-seahawks-jersey/ . Thompson, who won Olympic gold last month at the Sochi Games, edged Fanny Smith of Switzerland to win the final World Cup of the season and the overall title. "Once I was in the gate I was in my zone and comfortable," Thompson said on a conference call. "I just focused on what I needed to do. I think thats the way to do it." The Canadian entered the competition with a slim five-point lead on Smith in the World Cup overall standings. Thompson fell behind her main rival in the final before executing a dramatic pass to move in front to stay. "I knew that everything came down to that last run down the course so it was pretty intense, especially being behind out of the gate and having to make that pass," Thompson said. "It was probably one of the most exciting moments for me in a long while on the skicross course. "It was really great for me to make that pass. Its not very fun skiing behind people. I like skiing in front." Smith settled for silver and Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver, B.C., won bronze. Calgarys Brady Leman won bronze in the mens race. Jean Frederic Chapuis of France won gold and Austrias Christoph Wahrstoetter took the silver. "I think I made more finals than any other guy this year," Leman said. "They didnt really go my way and I didnt have my best skiing when I made it to the medal rounds and when it really counts. I know Im there and I know Ive been super-competitive every week this year which is good because thats something that Ive struggled with in the past. "But you always want more so I know what Ive got to focus on this summer at least anyway." Leman reached the final at the Olympics but just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. Thompson led a 1-2 Canadian finish in the womens final at Sochi with teammate Kelsey Serwa. "The main goal this year was the Olympics and once I realized that goal I had to refocus and think about the Globe," said Thompson. "In the final (Sunday) I needed to be patient. I waited for the right moment (to pass) and it happened to be near the end. "I nailed the big super-G turn and I was able to move past her." Thompson, from Whistler, B.C., became the first Canadian to win a skicross Crystal Globe in 2012. The 21-year-old won this seasons overall title with 755 points. "Im just really happy that I could realize all my goals and not really disappoint myself," she said. Smith was second with 730 points and Ophelie David of France was third with 572 points. Swedens Victor Oehling Norberg won the mens Crystal Globe with 494 points. Andreas Matt of Austria was second with 482 points and Germanys Daniel Bohnacker was third with 399 points. Dave Duncan of London, Ont., was leading the World Cup rankings when he was injured during the qualification round at the last World Cup stop in Are, Sweden. He missed his last three races and settled for sixth overall. Switzerland won the Nations Cup for the second straight year with 2,261 points. Canada was second with 2,154 points. Tonight, the Cardinals will try to finish off the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series at Busch Stadium. That may be easier said than done, though, as the Cardinals will be going up against perhaps the best pitcher in baseball in left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw is likely headed toward another NL Cy Young Award after a remarkable regular season that saw him go 16-9 and lead the major leagues with a minuscule 1.83 ERA and an NL-best 232 strikeouts. The Cardinals, though, have given him fits, as he lost twice to them in the regular season and, despite a terrific effort, was defeated by them on Saturday in Game 2 of this series. Kershaw gave up an unearned run and two hits over six innings of that one to fall to 1-1 with a 0.47 ERA in three starts this postseason. "All we have to do is score for him," said Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. St. Louis, meanwhile, will be trying to secure an amazing 19th NL pennant behind rookie Michael Wacha, who has been spectacular this postseason, winning both of his starts, while pitching to a 0.64 ERA. Wacha was able to outduel Kershaw in Game 2 by scattering five hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. Counting his last start of the regular season, when he came within an out of a no-hitter, he is 3-0 with an 0.42 ERA. "I just expect Michael to go out and do what hes done, just like the rest of our guys," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "Stick with what youve done all along the way, and dont ignnore and dont deny the excitement. Russell Wilson Seahawks Jersey. " Los Angeles staved off elimination on Wednesday, as Gonzalez hit two of the Dodgers four home runs in a 6-4 win at Dodger Stadium. Carl Crawford and A.J. Ellis also delivered solo blasts for the NL West champs, who hadnt homered at all in dropping three of the first four matchups to St. Louis. "I think if you look at it now, weve kind of become Americas team because everyone wants to see a seventh game," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Probably even fans in St. Louis want to see a seventh game, so I figure that everyones for us to win on Friday night." Zack Greinke (1-0) worked out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the first, then limited the Cardinals to two runs on six hits over seven innings. He also helped his cause with an RBI single. "When Zack got out of that inning with no runs, it was just a huge momentum swing in the game," Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis said. "Sometimes a game is won or lost in that first inning. I think that first inning had a huge impact on todays game." Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Adams and Matt Carpenter each collected two hits in the loss for the Cardinals, who, of course, have lost an NLCS both times they have held a 3-1 lead, including last year to the San Francisco Giants. Unlike last year though, the Cards will play the final two games in St. Louis, where they are 25-6 since Aug. 11. "Were not going to San Francisco, were going home, so I think thats a big plus," Cards third baseman David Freese said. If necessary, Game 7 will be played on Saturday at Busch Stadium.
