Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. Giubbotti Moncler Uomo Prezzi . This week they discuss Olympic hockey jerseys, Canadian soccer coach Jon Herdman, soccer phenom Jordan Spieth and Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan. Bruce Arthur, National Post: My thumb is down to the leaked version of team Canadas hockey jersey for the Sochi Olympics, If they are the jerseys, which since Getty Images pulled the picture of Jonathan Toews looking dubiously at the camera after a brief kerfuffle, they may be. Ok, so its just a jersey and its not as bad as Buffalos new third jersey - which looks like it has duct tape on the sleeve - and it might not be final, but the white band on just one arm, the dull corporate font, the fake laces, Cmon. Canadas Olympic hockey jersey should evoke our hockey heritage; they should evoke the excitement and hopes and dreams of a nation, in red and white. It should not, under any circumstances, look like a Petro-Canada station. Dave Naylor, TSN: My thumb is up to the Canadian Soccer Association for extending the contract of Womens National team coach John Herdman through the 2020 Olympics. The Canadian story in international soccer has included more than its fair share of frustration, but under Herdman, the womens program has soared to new heights, capped of course by a bronze medal at last summers Olympics. When whispers began recently that Herdman might return home to coach Team England, it seemed he might be too good to be true. Nice to see thats not the case. Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated: My thumb is up to the next rival to Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth. While two-time major champion Rory Mcilroy undergoes his existential and equipment crisis, the 20-year-old Spieth has emerged as the latest prodigy. At the urging of Phil Micklelson and others, Fred Couples made Spieth a captains pick for the Presidents Cup. Last year, Spieth couldnt get past the second round of Q-School. This year he beat Zach Johnson in a playoff at the John Deere Classic and had seven other top 10 finishes. With Saskatchewans Graham Delaet on the international team and Spieth on Team USA, the October event will be about more than boring old tales of Tiger. Dave Hodge, TSN: My thumb is down to Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan, and though I will try, there are no words that can add much to the pictures of his interception return for a touch…back. A touch…down is what he thought he had after intercepting Joe Flaccos pass and returning it to the end…one-yard line. Yes, a touchdown requires the player and the ball to cross the goal-line, and Trevathan forgot to take the ball that far. It travelled, on its own, far enough to record a touch…back. Al Michaels said, "You would swear that everybody would learn by now". Yes you would and Denver fans did....swear, even though the Broncos were ahead by 25 points, when Danny Trevathan apparently decided that a 25 point lead was big enough. Giacche Moncler Uomo . City bounced back from two consecutive losses in all competitions to move two points behind league leader Arsenal, which has a game in hand. Romelu Lukaku gave the visitors the lead but Negredo quickly cancelled out the Belgian strikers opener after a flowing collective move before Aguero handed City the advantage just before halftime. Aguero then added the third from the spot in the 69th minute after Tim Howard tipped his penalty onto the post but the ball bounced in off the American goalkeeper. Everton, which was the only team to remain unbeaten before the game, matched Citys pace early in the game but quickly faded after the interval. Criticized for his recent mistakes both with his club and England, goalkeeper Joe Hart kept his place in the starting lineup even though City manager Manuel Pellegrini made several changes to his side, with Pablo Zabaleta, Joleon Lescott, Aleksandar Kolarov, David Silva, James Milner and Alvaro Negredo coming in. Everton got off to a strong start and looked dangerous immediately as Lukaku threatened Citys defence at the conclusion of his teams first move. Fresh from consecutive losses against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich, City had its first real opportunity in the seventh minute after a soft free kick was given against Phil Jagielka for a foul on Sergio Aguero, but Aleksandar Kolarovs curled shot went inches wide. Kolarov missed the target agaiin a few minutes later when he sent his header from a corner over the bar before Hart diverted a fine effort from Lukaku in the 15th minute. Piumini Moncler Uomo Scontati. Lukau then made the most of Citys poor defending as he beat the offside trap to open the scoring after skipping past Lescott and sliding the ball under Hart. But the Everton fans celebrations were short-lived, with City levelling the score in the next minute when Negredo scored a goal similar to Lukakus from Yaya Toures excellent through pass. The game continued in a fast pace with both teams combining well from end to end. City had another great chance in the 26th minute when Fernandinho and Silva managed to open some space for Aguero in front of goal, only for the striker to bend the ball wide at the far post. Aguero could again have given City the lead after Negredo opened up the Toffees defence but completely missed the ball in the 39th. The Argentine player finally made amends for all his wasted chances when he fired in David Silvas pass past Howard from a tight angle in the 45th minute. City had the upper hand early in the second half but suffered a blow when Kolarov, pushed in the back by Steven Naismith, collided with teammate Matija Nastasic and had to leave the pitch with his face bloodied. He was replaced by Gael Clichy, while Naismith escaped any punishment. City however kept controlling the game and was awarded a penalty in the 69th minute after Zabaleta was fouled by Seamus Coleman in the area. After being booked for protesting, Howard almost denied Agueros shot but the ball hit the post and bounced off him before ending in the net. Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '
TORONTO - Jonathan Bernier returned to the ice Saturday wearing an older piece of equipment. Nike Roshe One Rosa . The 25-year-old left his second start of the preseason after just a period - he was expected to play the full game - because of irritation from a new set of knee pads that hed been wearing under the trimmed-down goalie equipment required this fall. We made some changes. Hopefully itll be fine." While hed been using the new equipment since the outset of camp, Bernier began to experience some pain and discomfort with his knee on the morning of Thursdays start in Ottawa. LIVERPOOL, England -- Luis Suarez marked his new Liverpool contract with two goals on Saturday to send his team provisionally top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Cardiff. Roberto Soriano Jersey . The Uruguay strikers first-half double took his tally to a Premier League season-leading 19 goals despite missing the first five games while banned for biting. On the eve of the match, Suarez signed a new Liverpool deal through 2018. Between Suarezs strikes, Raheem Sterling also scored for Liverpool, and Jordon Mutch scored Cardiffs only goal in the second half. Liverpool moved a point ahead of Arsenal, which plays Chelsea on Monday. The loss will likely further weaken coach Malky Mackays grip on the Cardiff job amid a power struggle with owner Vincent Tan, who was at Anfield. Mackay said after the game that he would not resign despite being told told by Tan earlier in the week to leave or be fired. Fuelled by Suarezs goals, Liverpool has now overtaken long-time leaders Arsenal, which faces fellow top-four side Chelsea on Monday. With the season almost halfway through Liverpool must now be classed as credible rivals to Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea. Brendan Rodgers side must face both City and Chelsea in their next two matches but with Suarez in this form the Reds can go into the games with confidence. Suarez has 19 goals in 12 league matches, including 10 in his last four games, and he set a Premier League record with his first goal, which was his ninth in December. Suarez scored his first against Cardiff in the 25th minute after running towards the penalty area where Jordan Henderson picked him out with an inviting cross which was expertly volleyed past goalkeeper David Marshall. That maintained Suarezs record of scoring in every home match -- six in total -- he has been available for this season, having been suspended early on. Cue the inevitable Liverpool onslaught which saw Martin Skrtel head over, Sterling have a shot blocked and Jon Flanagan and Philippe Coutinho both hit the post, with the latters effort only just kept out by the outstretched boot of Marshall. It seemed despite Liverpools dominance, its lead would be a slender one at the break but three minutes before the interval the hosts struck again, thanks to their two best players in recent weeks. Hendersons through-ball was superb in itself but no surprise considering his improved quality this season. Suarez, with only Marshall to beat, instead squared the ball for Sterling to slot home. Suarezs second of the game came after Hendersons backheel was all the invitation the Uruguayan needed as he opened his body to curl a shot around a pack of bodies in the penalty area and inside Marshalls left-hand post in the 45th for Liverpool to go 3-0 ahead. The second half should have been a procession for the home side but that was interrupted by Mutchs unchallenged header from a free kick in the 58th minute. Cardiff subsequently enjoyed its best spell of the game but that was ended when Sterling forced Marshall to save in a one-on-one and Suarez followed up to blast a shot against the post. Custom Italy Soccer Jersey . On Saturday night, the normally free throw-challenged centre did just that. Kyle Palmieri scored two straight goals in the third period to rally the Anaheim Ducks past the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Tuesday night.DALLAS – Standing behind the visitors bench at the American Airlines Center as his team was being pummeled, Randy Carlyle muttered under his breath some of the frustration and disappointment that goes hand in hand with such a thoroughly one-sided defeat. "It gets passed a point of mad and frustration," said Carlyle, bearing the look of a baffled head coach. "It just gets to a point of disappointment and what the heck is going on out there. Those are the things that bring you back to Earth in a hurry. "This is the thud." Toronto hadnt won seven straight in more than 10 years. Thumped 7-1 by Jamie Benn and the Stars in Big D on Thursday night, theyll have to wait at least a little longer to do it once more. The Stars exploded for four goals in an imbalanced middle frame – Benn with a pair of assists – wrestling complete control of a tilt that featured on a whole lot of ills from the visiting hockey club, including a host of turnovers and slew of lost battles. "We didnt really have anything going for a good part of the hockey game," said Carlyle. "We turned the puck over. We didnt make strong plays. We looked like we were a step behind the Dallas hockey club tonight. They skated and we didnt." Considering their recent string of success – the longest win streak by the club in more than seven years – the lacklustre effort seemed to come out of nowhere and was more in line with much of the disappointment and inconsistency that plagued the seasons first half. "It might help put us back down to even-keel here," said Tyler Bozak afterward. "We were pretty confident and maybe a little overconfident after that win streak we had." "Its the management of success as well as well as management when youre not having success of how to remain on an even-keel," Carlyle said. "Obviously we didnt do a very good job of that in our performance tonight." All the elements that flourished so prominently during the six-game win streak disappeared in a hurry. The goaltending had a rare off-night. The previously scorching top line was silent and burned often on the other end. And the power-play, so prominent in the past week and really all season, was a large negative, empty in three attempts with a shorthanded goal against. Blown out in Carolina two weeks ago to the day, the Leafs responded with some of their best hockey, eventually rallying with this most recent win streak. Theyll be looking for more of the same when they visit the suddenly resurgent Jets to conclude the road trip on Saturday. "Weve got to find a way to pick ourselves back up because we cant let this linger with our group," Carlyle concluded. Five Points 1. Rare Off-Night in Goal Between Jonathan Bernier and James Reimer, goaltending has been a strong point for the Leafs all season and more recently during the six-game win streak. But on this night that elite level of performance was nowhere to be found (though they lacked much help). Bernier was bounced for just the second time all season following the third Dallas goal – 13 shots – a redirected Benn point blast that snuck through the five-hole of the 25-year-old. He was replaced by Reimer, who fared no better, yielding four more goals on just 15 shots. "I think they fit in with the rest of our team," said Carlyle of the goaltenders. "Im not going to throw those guys [under the bus] any more than the rest of the group. We just didnt have anything going. We just didnt have it." Leaf goaltenders owned an impressive .932 save percentage during the six-game run, but were hammered for seven goals on 28 shots against the Stars. 2. Top Line Finally Silenced The trio of Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak combined for 12 goals and 25 points during the win streak, but they were completely silenced in Dallas. The line failed to generate much of anything against the Stars – combining for just four shots – while also being burned for four goals against on the other end. "We werent skating. We werent winning battles. We were getting outsmarted pretty much all over the ice," said Bozak. "Especially our line – we were terrible. They outplayed us in eevery facet of the game. #4 Italy Matteo Darmian Mens Jersey - Replica Blue Home Long Sleeve Shirt 2016 UEFA European Football Championship Soccer Puma. Its just one that weve got to put behind us." Prior to the game, Carlyle described their recent success as more expectation than surprise. "Check the size of their pay cheque," said Carlyle with good humour. "Arent they supposed to do that? Thats what theyre paid to do. Thats the bottom line. The reality of it is they are paid to provide offence and I guess theyre doing their job." Kessels potent seven-game point streak was snapped in the loss. He had six goals and 14 points in that span, but was held to two shots on Thursday. 3. Lupul at LW After residing on the right wing for the better part of a month – mostly due to injuries – Joffrey Lupul has, in recent days, returned to his more comfortable left wing. Lupul spent the past three seasons on the left side, moved there at the request of former Leafs head coach Ron Wilson. Randy Carlyle noted Thursday morning that Lupul "seems to be much more comfortable on the left side than the right side". The reasons why, as explained by Lupul himself, start in the defensive zone. "Im better in my own zone for sure," he told the Leaf Report on Thursday morning. "I find it easier to get the puck out on the wall – which a lot of guys dont. I dont why necessarily I do, [but] I find it easier to protect the puck and play better in my own end." Additionally, the 29-year-old believes he is a more dynamic threat offensively streaking down his off-wing. "I think Im a much better passer off the left side," said Lupul. "[Playing there] just gives me a chance to use my body again to protect the puck whereas on the right wing I feel like Im kind of skating with the puck exposed and it can get knocked off a lot. And it just gives me a chance to buy myself that extra second, whether it be to shoot or to pass." 4. Wrong Direction Hes unquestionably been felled by some particularly rough outings from his teammates, but Reimers season has gradually turned in the wrong direction just as Bernier has clutched hold of the crease. The 25-year-old burst out of the gate with a .949 save percentage in October, but has trended downward ever since. Reimer has started three games in January, while stepping in for Bernier in two others, owning an unflattering .875 save mark in the opening month of 2014. Month Save Percentage October .949 November .916 December .909 January .875 5. Clarkson & Other Injury Updates Missing his fourth consecutive game with an elbow injury, David Clarkson isnt due to return to the Toronto lineup until next week. Clarkson had been playing with an infection in his elbow since December and required minor surgery last week to alleviate the issue. Frazer McLaren meanwhile, out the past five games with a bruised shoulder, was due to meet the team in Winnipeg on Friday. Trevor Smith, sidelined since the middle of December with a broken right hand, is expected to start skating with his teammates next week. Giambi belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a shocking 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the AL wild-card race.NEW YORK -- Nick Young and the Lakers 3-point shooters couldnt miss early. Paul Pierce couldnt believe he missed at the end. Young scored a season-high 26 points to spark a huge effort from the leagues most productive bench, and Los Angeles beat the Brooklyn Nets 99-94 on Wednesday night after blowing a 27-point lead. Wesley Johnson made the tiebreaking basket when he stole Pierces pass and dunked with 1:35 left, and the Lakers used their sizzling start to bounce back from a loss in Washington a night earlier and win for the fourth time in five games. "We werent doing anything wrong (early in the game)," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "Everything was going and going, and guys were hitting shots. We just have to understand how we do it and bottle it and keep going." Pau Gasol added 21 points for the Lakers, moving into second place on the NBAs career list for points by a European player. Wearing new black uniforms and hearing "Lets go Lakers!" chants, the Lakers jumped on the Nets right from the start and were ahead 48-21 early in the second quarter. But the Nets fought all the way back, also behind their bench. They had a chance to tie it again at the end, but Pierce just missed from straightaway with 2.2 seconds left, capping a 4-for-17 night. "Its frustrating when the ball doesnt go your way, but eventually I know these shots throughout the course of 82 games are going to fall for me," Pierce said. Joe Johnson scored 18 points but missed nine of 10 shots in the second half for the Nets, who failed in their bid to win consecutive games for the first time this season. Mirza Teletovic had a career-best 17 for the Nets, Andray Blatche and Alan Anderson each added 14, and Pierce finished with 12. Still without starters Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, plus key reserves Jason Terry and Andrei Kirilenko, the Nets fell to the Lakers for the 11th straight time. Gasol has 15,773 points. He entered 10 behind Detlef Schrempf for No. 2 among European players, and the centre from Spain now trails only Dallas Dirk Nowitzki. Jordan Farmar scored 15 points and Jodie Meeks had 11 for the Lakers, hitting a pair of free throws with 8.3 seconds left that never wouldve seemed necessary the way the game began, withh Los Angeles making seven of its first nine 3-point attempts and hitting Brooklyn with an 18-0 run. Roman Torres Jersey. "We were playing well, moving the ball and making shots and getting stops," said Farmar, a former Nets reserve. "We knew they would make a run, though. Once we relaxed, they took advantage of it." Steve Blake hit consecutive 3-pointers to open it and the Lakers sprinted to an 11-2 lead after barely 2 minutes. The Nets were only down seven with under 2 1/2 minutes left in the opening quarter before Young ran off the final nine points to make it 34-18. Farmar then opened the second with three straight 3-pointers to make it 43-18, capping the Lakers run of 18 straight points. He later added another that bounced on the rim a bunch of times before falling, pushing it to 48-21 with 8:30 to play. The Nets came right back with 15 in a row to trim it to 48-36, and the Lakers led 54-40 at halftime. "The Lakers came out and they hit us right off the bat, but the guys kept fighting," said Nets coach Jason Kidd, who caused a bit of a delay at the end when he dropped his drink onto the court in front of the bench. A video of Kidds drink fumble showed him appearing to tell guard Tyshawn Taylor to "hit me" as he walked toward the bench. Taylor then bumped into Kidd, who spilled the drink in his hand, giving the Nets time to discuss strategy while the floor was cleaned. Brooklyn played a strong third quarter, the period thats so often been such a big downfall this season, then pulled within six to open the fourth on Teletovics 3-pointer. He gave them their first tie at 92 with a pair of free throws with 3:57 left. Wesley Johnson then stepped in front of Pierces pass for an easy two points the other way. "I saw his eyes look over to where I was, but I think he didnt see me," Johnson said. "So I played the passing line and took a gamble and got my hand it." Blakes free throw made it 95-92. Andersons dunk cut it to one with 9.8 seconds left before Meeks free throws, and Xavier Henry closed it out with two free throws after Pierces miss. NOTES: The Nets last victory over the Lakers was Nov. 25, 2007, in Los Angeles behind 15 points, 14 assists and seven rebounds from Kidd. The Lakers finished 13 for 30 behind the arc.
