PRETORIA, South Africa - The murder trial of Oscar Pistorius, set to open Monday, marks the start of a dramatic new chapter in the life of the double-amputee athlete who ran at the Olympics and became a global star before he shot his girlfriend to death. Clyde Drexler Jersey . Prosecutors charged the 27-year-old Pistorius with murder in Reeva Steenkamps death and say it was with premeditation. They say they will seek a life sentence if Pistorius is convicted, the sternest punishment available in South Africa. South Africa no longer has the death penalty. The intense public interest in the Pistorius trial is shown by the launching Sunday night of a 24-hour cable channel devoted to covering the court case. If convicted on the murder charge, Pistorius could be sent to prison for at least 25 years before the chance of parole, the minimum time someone must serve if given a life sentence in South Africa. He would be older than 50 before he could be released. The state says Pistorius intentionally killed Steenkamp at his home in the pre-dawn hours of Valentines Day last year by shooting her through a toilet door after an argument. Pistorius denies murder and says he killed his girlfriend by mistake when he fired four times through the door thinking there was a dangerous nighttime intruder on the other side. A lesser sentence is possible if Pistorius is found guilty of murder but without premeditation. He also could be convicted of culpable homicide, South Africas version of manslaughter in which someone is killed through negligence. Pistorius claims he was acting in self-defence against what he believed at the time was a threat to his life. As well as murder, Pistorius faces a second charge of illegal possession of ammunition for bullets found at his Pretoria house that he allegedly didnt have proper licensing for. Prosecutors say he also will be indicted Monday with two more gun charges relating to him allegedly shooting in public on two separate occasions before Steenkamps killing. The serving of an updated indictment to Pistorius in court is expected to be the first move at the trial at Pretorias high court. He has not yet been formally served with the papers that include all four charges against him, although his lawyers have had the papers and details of the additional gun charges since last year, prosecutors say. The gun charges reportedly relate to him allegedly shooting out the sunroof of a car in one incident and another when he allegedly fired a gun inside a restaurant, apparently by mistake. Those incidents happened in the court jurisdiction of the city of Johannesburg, not where Steenkamp was killed in Pretoria, and prosecutors applied to have the two charges included and heard at his murder trial. Female judge Thokozile Masipa will ultimately pronounce the champion runner innocent or guilty and will decide on any sentence. South Africa has no trial by jury. Parts of the trial will be broadcast on live television, both in South Africa and across the world, and hundreds of reporters are expected to descend on North Gauteng High Court in the South African capital for the start of the trial. The 24-hour cable channel devoted solely to the trial will continue until the case is finished. The trial will deal with the bloody killing of a 29-year-old model and law graduate, but also the issue of gun ownership and South Africas problem of violent crime, which Pistorius says was the reason why he kept his licensed 9 mm handgun under his bed. Pistorius says his fear of crime was why he fired four shots through the door, hitting Steenkamp three times — in the head, elbow and hip. Prosecutors maintain he was simply angry with her after an argument. Members of Pistorius family will likely attend the trial, as they did on his previous court hearings. His uncle, Arnold Pistorius, sister Aimee and brother Carl are all also listed as state witnesses. "We love Oscar, and believe in him, and will be standing by him throughout the coming trial," Arnold Pistorius said in a statement over the weekend. For the first time, members of Steenkamps family will also be in the courtroom according to a family statement that her mother June and others would be at the trial. The parents and close relatives of Steenkamp did not attend any of Pistorius previous court appearances. "All we are looking for is closure and to know that our daughter did not suffer on that tragic Valentines Day," Steenkamps parents said in a statement this month and days before the one-year anniversary of the shooting that stunned South Africa. It was a brave decision from Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie, but it worked to perfection. Swingman Nik Stauskas Jersey . Rennies decision to leave the clubs leading scorer Camilo out of the lineup for Saturdays match at Montreal was a major talking point leading into the all-Canadian matchup, but the Scottish coach got the outcome he had been hoping for. Camilo was left out in favour of Tommy Heinemann, a big, strong, bustling forward. Speaking to Rennie ahead of the game he explained his decision was made largely due to the opposition. He wanted Heinemann on from the start to use his physical attributes against Montreals backline, and he planned to unleash Camilo late in the game when the Impact defence had been worn down. It worked a treat. The Whitecaps ended up beating Montreal 3-0 and giving a major boost to their fading playoff hopes. It was a third road win of the season and a second clean sheet in a row. There were plenty of nervous moments along the way, and some controversy as well, but the end result was probably better than Rennie had even dared dream about. Heinemanns inclusion had the desired effect early in the game, making a nuisance of himself around the Impacts central defensive pairing of Alessandro Nesta and Matteo Ferrari, and the Whitecaps early breakthrough came from the penalty spot as Kenny Miller scored to give them a seventh-minute lead. There was no doubt about the decision from referee Jorge Gonzalez who penalized Impact defender Hassoun Camara for a handball. That opportunity was created following a strong run down the right by Nigel Reo-Coker who had an excellent first half for Vancouver. The Impact had plenty of chances to equalize, hit the bar a couple of times, and had it not been for a string of good saves by Whitecaps Danish goalkeeper David Ousted, Montreal would have been back in the match. However, as they pushed forward looking for a leveling goal late in the game, Camilo came off the bench to score two in two minutes – including a wonderstrike – to seal the points for the Caps. Its now 16 goals for the season for the Brazilian who sits two behind Montreals Marco Di Vaio for the league lead in scoring. The Impact will also point to an incident just before half time as a major turning point in the match. With the Whitecaps leading 1-0, referee Gonzalez awarded a penalty to Montreal following a long range strike by Patrice Bernier that struck Whitecaps midfielder Jun Marques Davidson around the top of the arm. Gonzalez then changed his mind following consultation with the other officials – although they were standing at halfway. It was a decision that Impact coach Marco Schallibaum called "a scandal," and Impact President Joey Saputo complained on Twitter: "PK or not, how does the furthest official on the field, overturn a referees call?" Saputo has a point. It was a situation that caused massive frustration because the referee was on the spot, made the call, and then seemed to changed his mind based on advice given by people much further away from the incident. However, even with the benefit of replays in the broadcast booth, it was very difficult for us to make a definitive call about whether it should have been a penalty. If the officials are not certain, they shouldnt give a spot kick. The result in Montreal leaves the Whitecaps in a much more positive position as they head home for back-to-back games against Real Salt Lake and Portland Timbers. The playoffs are still a long shot – that was only Vancouvers second win in 10 matches – but at least they are still alive. A win at home to RSL next Saturday (7pm et/4pm pt on TSN2) would see them climb to within one point of fifth-placed Colorado with four games remaining, two of which are against the Denver club. For the Impact, it was a concerning week. Despite playing well for periods in all three of their matches, they ended up with three defeats in a row (Two MLS, one Champions League) conceding eight goals in the process. By the end of the weekend, the Impact had fallen six points behind Eastern Conference leaders New York. Montreal are still third in the standings, but they are now just two points ahead of fourth-placed Houston Dynamo, and with an aging squad the Impact know the importance of finishing in the top three and avoiding the additional fourth vs. fifth match to open the playoffs. With back-to-back road games on the way against Chicago and Houston, Schallibaum will be hoping his team can tighten up defensively, whilst also showing a more clinical touch in front of goal. Zach Randolph had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Marc Gasol added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the Grizzlies survived a late rally for a 102-96 victory over the Clippers on Friday night. Allen, the Grizzlies defensive sparkplug, missed the previous 21 games with a sprained left wrist. His return sparked a defensive effort that held the Clippers to 33 per cent shooting in the second half and gave Memphis a double-digit lead that was enough of a buffer for the Grizzlies to win their fourth straight. Allen scored nine points on 4-of-4 shooting with two steals and a block. "With TA back in the lineup, its great," Randolph said. "Hes a leader on this team, and he gets guys going with his energy. What else can I say? Were happy to have him back." Allen drew a standing ovation when he entered the game late in the first quarter and seemed even more animated than usual in seeing his first action since Jan. 3. He said his goal was "to get in there and cause havoc." "I kind of had butterflies in my stomach when they did that," Allen said of the ovation, "but I got focused on the game." James Johnson added 15 for Memphis, and Mike Miller finished with 13, hitting 5 of 8 from the field. Courtney Lee scored 10 for Memphis. Gasol had four blocks. Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 28 points and 13 rebounds, and Jamal Crawford had 23 points. Chris Paul added 18 points and 14 assists, but was 4 of 13 from the field as Los Angeles lost its second straight. "It was just one of those games that we missed a lot of easy ones," Griffin said after Los Angeles shot 39 per cent for the game. Clippers coach Doc Rivers thought the game started slipping away in the second quaarter. Swingman Wilt Chamberlain Jersey. Rivers, who coached Allen in Boston, noted that he was a key. "I thought Tony Allen, Mike Miller and James Johnson turned the game around for them with their energy," Rivers said. Another key was the bench scoring. Memphis reserves outscored their Clippers counterparts 43-7. "When we dont score, thats fine," Rivers said, "but weve got to be able to get stops. Our second unit didnt kill this offence, they gave up 32 points defensively, and that thats what hurt us." The Grizzlies opened the fourth quarter connecting on their first four shots for an 11-4 run to take the lead to double digits. Mike Conleys layup gave Memphis an 84-72 lead with 9:23 remaining. The margin stayed between seven and 11 points, and Memphis still led by 10 approaching the 4-minute mark. But Los Angeles chipped away, and a pair of free throws from Paul brought the Clippers within 98-96 with 1:05 left. That was as close as Los Angeles could get. Memphis scored the last four points while the Clippers were missing their final four shots. As has become the norm when the two teams face each other, the play was physical and defence stout. "Every game we play against them is going to be a battle, and we understand that," Conley said. "Both teams get up for each other, and (Los Angeles) is the most competitive team, I think, as far as rivalries go." NOTES: Griffin has scored at least 25 points in 10 straight games. ... EDMONTON -- When the Edmonton Oilers traded for Ben Scrivens on Jan. Cheap Ugg Boots Uk . 16 they did so in hopes the Spruce Grove, Alta., native would solve their inconsistent goaltending problems. The 27-year-old showed on Wednesday he may just be the solution. Scrivens stopped all 59 shots he faced to backstop the Oilers to a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. The win matched Edmontons season-high three-game winning streak. "Hats off to the goaltender, he was tremendous," said San Jose coach Todd McLellan. "Probably first, second and third star. If he wasnt he deserved it. Heck of a performance. In all my years in the league I dont think Ive seen that. We attempted 100 shots on goal, that doesnt happen very often." The 59-save shutout is an NHL record. The 59 shots tied the mark for the most ever given up by Edmonton and Scrivens 59 saves were a team record. Previously Edmonton gave up 59 shots to the New York Rangers in 1993, winning that game 4-3. The Oilers were outshot 20-7, 22-9 and 17-11 by periods as the Sharks, 7-3-0 in their previous 10 games, dominated play, territorially and by shots. But they couldnt beat Scrivens, who made his fourth start for the Oilers and won his second game. He went into the game with an 8-7-4 record, a 2.03 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. He improved all three of those marks Wednesday. "I was seeing the puck well," he said afterwards. "We got extremely lucky with a couple of posts in the second. "I had an awful, awful warm-up, it was an inauspicious start to it," he added. "Its one of those things where you try not to look at the forest while youre in the trees. You try to focus on the process and give yourself a chance to make that save and when the puck drops again, you try to focus on the next one and dont try to get too far ahead of yourself." Other than Scrivens the team effort was spotty at best. "Thats how I thought our skaters were playing the game; they were watching Ben play," said Oilers coach Dallas Eakins who wasnt particularly happy despite the win. "It was an incredible thing to watch, Ive never seen that before. Im so happy for Ben and proud of him and then youre mad at the same time." The Oilers capitalized on San Jose mistakes to get the win they didnt really deserve. Defenceman Justin Schultz in the first period and Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle in the third scored the Edmonton goals. Schultz scored on a shot from the blue line that defected off a San Jose player in front of goaltender Antti Niemi. Hall buried a shot just under the crossbar to finish off a two-on-one break with Eberle six minutes into the third and he assisted on Eberles goal in the final two minutes. The story was all Scrivens, who got a well-deserved standing ovation late in the second period and several more in the third. While the Sharks rattled two shots off the goalpost in the second period, Scrivens had them shaking their heads with some of his spectacular saves. Among his best were point-blank stops off Patrick Marleau, Jason Demers twice, Bracken Kearns, Brent Burns and Tommy Wingels. "Usually when you put 20 shots on goal in the first period you get one goal," said Wingels. "So at that point we knew we would have to keep going. We were saying get 20 more shots, get 20 more shots and you think thats a recipe for success. Unfortunately tonight it wasnt." Hall said the Oilers skaters could sense towards the end of the first period that they were watching something special. "Obviously you dont want to give up 59 shots, but sometimes a goalie has to stand on his head and that has to be one of the best performances by a goalie, I have ever seen." Ahmad Bradshaw is just the latest piece of the puzzle. The Indianapolis Colts signed the unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, adding a veteran running back to their crowded backfield. He will join the team Wednesday under a contract whose terms were not disclosed. The 27-year-old Bradshaw spent seven seasons with the New York Giants, but left the team in February -- one of a handful of high-salaried players released as part of roster purge intended to clear up salary cap room and bring in younger talent. He ran for 1,015 yards on 221 carries (4.6 yards per carry) and scored six touchdowns last season but missed four games with injuries. Bradshaws focus is rehabbing from right foot surgery in January. He visited the Colts last week and got an evaluation by the team after battling injuries to his knee and foot for much of last year. "Im taking it slow right now," he said. "Im definitely going to continue my rehab. My focus is just to learn the offence and to get healthy and to be prepared for training camp and the beginning of the season." Still, Colts coach Chuck Pagano likes what Bradshaw can add to the team -- Super Bowl experience, toughness, and putting up big numbers running the ball. "Signing a player like Bradshaw, his resume obviously speaks for itself," Pagano said. "We know hes coming off foot surgery, hes trending in the right direction. This guys just another horseshoe guy, get us one step closer to hoisting that trophy." As the Colts opened their mandatory mini-camp, Bradshaw figures to battle with second-year running back Vick Ballard, who led the team in rushing as a rookie, for a prime role in the backfield and with Donald Brown, now in his fifth year. Delone Carter is also in the mix. "He brings just a veteran presence," Ballard said of Bradshaw. "Hes won two Super Bowls, so obviously he knows how to get it done. He can not only help the team, but he can help the running back group as a whole." Indy now has eight running backs on the roster, including seventh-round draft pick Kerwynn Williams and fullback Stanley Havili, who was acquired in a March trade with Philadelphia. Williams is listed at 5-foot-8, 195 pounds. But the other backs have a combined total of six NFL carries, all by Havili last season. In seven seasons with the Giants, Bradshaw played in 84 of 96 games, starting 33 and rushed for 4,232 yards and 332 touchdowns. Ugg Bailey Button Sale Uk. He is best known for scoring the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl two years ago on an awkward flop. The play gave the Giants a 21-17 victory over New England. Other than drafting Williams in the seventh round and trading for Havili, the Colts didnt make any significant moves in the backfield. Pagano has made a point to make the running game stronger and more balanced and have made moves to get there. Last year, Indy was No. 22 in the league rushing at 104.4 yards a game. Pagano said hes wanted a solid rushing attack from day one. As a rookie last year, Ballard led the team in rushing with 50.9 yards a game and just two touchdowns. Bradshaw knows Ballard has earned a big role with the Colts, but wants a shot at the top spot, too. "I like having the load on my back," he said. "But Vick, hes proved himself and I dont mind coming in and helping those guys out as much as I can." Indy spent much of the off-season fortifying its defence and an offensive line that gave up far too many hits on Andrew Luck last season. The Colts signed nine veteran free agents including right tackle Gosder Cherilus and guard Donald Thomas. Those are just additions to an already experienced front lineup that includes tackle Anthony Castonzo who is "perfecting technique" to help the game on the ground. "Every lineman loves the run game," he said. "If you can get into the game and control the run game and just pass when you have to, thats the best game for the offensive line. Everybody loves the run game." So whats the identity the Colts would like to instil? Castonzo recalled last years 19-13 overtime win against the Tennessee Titans where Indy had a more balanced game with 171 yards rushing and 297 passing. Sure, Indy showed spurts of success running the ball last year, but never found consistency running the ball. This season, its a must. "We have to get it going," receiver T.Y Hilton said. "You cant be one dimensional and just pass because defences will sit on that. Once we get Vick, Donald and the running game going, we should be excellent." And now Bradshaw, who will just add to the mix. "I feel this offence is young and they need a spark and I can be that spark they can use," he said. "With me, I feel that I can touch the ball every down and be effective." Notes: After announcing they had signed Bradshaw, the Colts said they had waived running back Denodus OBryant. CHICAGO -- The Cubs didnt want to see a championship celebration at Wrigley Field -- not if the other team would have been whooping it up. Canada Goose Banff Parka . A late rally prevented that. Dioner Navarro hit a tiebreaking single in a three-run eighth inning, and the Cubs beat Atlanta 3-1 Saturday to keep the Braves on the brink of the NL East title. Atlantas magic number remained at one to clinch its first division title since 2005. Second-place Washington was rained out against Miami later Saturday. Either way, the Cubs didnt have to watch a celebration. "One day, hopefully, thatll be us and we can move forward from that," Travis Wood said. The Cubs are a long way from contention, of course. They have 90 losses and are last in the NL Central, with another brutal season coming to a finish. Not having to witness the Braves clinching was just one small victory. "It was nice not to have to see (a celebration) in person," manager Dale Sveum said. Starlin Casto singled off Kris Medlen with one out in the eighth, pinch-hitter Donnie Murphy singled against Scott Downs (2-1) and Anthony Rizzo hit a tying double down the left-field line. Navarro singled in the go-ahead run against David Carpenter, and Nate Schierholtz added a sacrifice fly. "They just made some good swings," Laird said. "Rizzo went out and got that ball, hit it down the line. Dioner hit that slider down and in. Youve got to tip your cap to them." Medlen held Chicago to one run and six hits in 7 1-3 innings after going 4-0 with an 0.98 ERA in his previous four starts. "Its tough, but Im a former bullpen guy, and I know how tough that job is," Medlen said. "The dudes do their best. Theyve carried us the entire year, so these things happen and nobody in this clubhouse is panicking at all or anything. Credit their pitcher with keeping the game close, too. (Travis) Woods having a great year. I felt it all game. I felt like it was in my hands, and the game was over. I had all the confidence in the world in myself and I just tried making pitches." Carlos Villanueva (7-8) relieved Wood with two on and no outs in the eighth after Justin Upton doubled and Freddie Freeman walked. Villanueva induced a double-play grounder by Chris Johnson and a flyout by Evan Gattis. Pedro Strop struck out the side in the ninth for his first save in four chances. Atlanta went ahead in the fourth when Freeman walked and scored on Gattis single. But B.J. Upton also struck out looking with the bases loaded to end the rally. Wood settled down after that, allowing one run, five hits and four walks in seven innings with seven strikeouts. "I had pretty command of most my pitches, being able to locate my fastball and getting the cutter on their hands and get some early swings and some quick outs," Wood said. "Just that last inning kind of got away from me quick. I really wanted to go out there and finish it strong and maybe overtried a little bit and left a pitch over that Upton could hit and Freeman battled me." Once he did, he bowed twice to the crowd. He could have done it one more time -- one for each green-white-checkered finish he needed to survive to win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Busch dominated in regulation, then proved he had the car to beat in three attempts of NASCARs version of overtime to win the Nationwide Series race. Busch needed to drive 213 laps of a scheduled 200-lap race to win his seventh race of the season. He snapped a four-race winless streak and won his 58th career Nationwide race. He had enough fuel left in the tank to win from the pole for the fourth time this season. Busch then used it all up with one big burnout. "We didnt want to have those late restarts," Busch said. "We felt like we had just enough fuel to make it to the end." Who knew theyd need every drop? The bonus racing stretched just about every car on the track. Not everyone made it. Brian Vickers ran out of gas just as he crossed the finish line. Busch pitted for the final time two laps after Vickers, on lap 119. He tried to conserve fuel through various methods and pad his stats for total laps led. He passed the 12,000 mark in career laps led and has 12,085 now. "Its just about being out front and setting your own pace," Busch said. "Its kind of like minding your own business. I like everyone away from me and to be doing my own thing." Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Busch (141), Vickers (63) and Matt Kenseth (nine) led every lap in the race. Vickers was second and Austin Dillon third. Brian Scott and Michael Annett round out the top five. "Finally, nothing stupid happened and we kept ourr nose clean and brought home a top-five," Annett said. Canada Goose Coats Canada. Nothing stupid, just wild. Busch had been the car to beat and seemed like he could put the No. 54 Toyota on cruise control heading into Victory Lane. Then the real fun started. Chad Hackenbracht spun out with two laps left of the scheduled finish, setting up the first G-W-C. No sooner did they restart, than Landon Cassill ran out of fuel and stalled on the track. The caution came out and Mike Wallace pushed Cassill out of the way. There was a four-car wreck on lap 206 that brought out the caution flag yet again. Parker Kligermans car was stuck in the infield mud for a bit after the accident. Elliott Sadler then spun on the lap 212 but, this time, the caution did not come out and Busch finally pulled away for good. His four wins from the pole matched Sam Ards record set in 1983. "Every time I get in Victory Lane, theres some sort of record I tie or break," Busch said. Busch is still trying to find the same success in the Sprint Cup series. He has two wins this season and 26 in 311 career starts. He has 58 wins in 258 Nationwide starts. "Itd certainly be nice to have those numbers in the Cup series, but for whatever reason, it hasnt quite worked out that way yet," he said. "For some reason, Jimmie Johnsons doing it. Hes the guy over there that does all those numbers and I can do it here. Maybe one day we should swap rides." Maybe not Sunday at New Hampshire. Busch starts fourth and Johnson is 43rd after his qualifying time was tossed out because he failed inspection. TORONTO - Dwane Casey was more composed than you might expect after his team surrendered 101 points in defeat on home court Wednesday night. Team USA Basketball Jersey . The reason being; this loss - 101-89 at the hands of Minnesota - came in the second game of the exhibition season, a time of trial and error for the Raptors. "[We are in] no way a finished product," Casey said after the loss. "I dont think you can talk to a coach in the NBA now that is where they want to be. Were definitely not where we want to be defensively." "Weve got to fight through things, weve got to fight through adversity and I like it," he continued, stressing that a night like this, at this stage should be used as a learning experience. "I like that it showed us tonight what we have to work on, especially defensively." Casey and his staff will go back to the drawing board on Thursday, as they do after each preseason game - win or lose. For them, October is a month-long chess match, a card game thats all about gathering information, utilizing it in the gym and choosing how much of it they wish to reveal before the games count. Its a month of experimentation and tactical development. "In preseason you stick with your coverage," Casey said, pointing out that through two games the team has yet to switch into the zone defence theyve been working on. "You dont try to do anything tricky, you dont try to game plan. Were still trying to learn our defensive fundamentals." Zone coverage is expected to be a big part of what the Raptors do defensively this season -- or better yet, what they can do when the situation deems it necessary. Whether theyre using a small lineup or simply masking some of their weaker second-unit defenders, it is a trick theyd like to have up their sleeve. But for now it remains in the sleeve. "You dont want to show them too much in the preseason," said Rudy Gay, who scored 11 points in the losing effort to Minnesota. Defensive Slippage For Casey the message is, has been and will remain focused on defence. After holding the Celtics to 89 points on 40 per cent shooting in Mondays preseason victory, the teams recommitment on the defensive end took a step in the wrong direction, most notably in the third quarter where they were outscored them 28-16. "We had a lot of mental breakdowns on the defensive end that were going to come in here tomorrow and watch and try to correct," admitted DeMar DeRozan, who was a standout on the offensive end with a team-high 17 points. The Wolves shot 47 per cent from the field and 37 per cent from three-point range, where they burned Toronto in the second half. The Raptors frontcourt had their hands full all night, as expected, bodying up against a slimmer but always physical Kevin Love (20 points, nine rebounds) and Nikola Pekovic (12 points, eight rebounds). "We just have to start with the mindset that we have to do everything right," Gay put bluntly. "Were honestly not good enough to lack in any category. So we have to try to [be] as perfect as possible." A Determined DeRozan With Corey Brewer preoccupied on Gay, DeRozan took advantage of the smaller guards Minnesota threw at him. After the newly signed Kevin Martin left the game (he played six minutes and was pulled as a precaution with a sore Achilles) DeRozan began attacking the paint, routinely posting up or driving right by Alexey Shved and company. DeRozan scored all but two of his 17 points in the paint or from the line, finishing six-of-seven from the floor and five-for-six from the stripe. He and Gay combined to shoot 14 free throws, making 12, each playing around 20 minutes. "It puts pressure on the defence," Gay said of the duos ability to draw fouls in the lane "The more we can do that the better were going to be." "Now we just [have] to start hitting shots," he joked. "Itll come, its just preseason." Another Efficient Night for the Starters Although they havent been effective from beyond the arc, an area of emphasis for that unit, the Raptors starters havent had much trouble hitting their shots. For the second straight game the starting unit shot above 50 per cent from the field and continued to build on the chemistry they developed towards the end of last season. "I thought they played solid minutes, the minutes they were in there," Casey said of the starters who, with the exception of Jonas Valanciunas, sat out the fourth quarter. Rotation Roulette Again, Casey experimented with different combinations, specifically in the second half. More than wins and losses, the Raptors coach has emphasized the importance of experimenting with his rotation and finding the groupings that work best going into the season. Casey used a couple variations of his small lineup late in the first half with Gay slotted at the four and matching up with Love. "I gained the weight he lost," Gay joked after facing a slimmed-down Love. After sitting out on Monday Steve Novak was also used as a stretch four, playing 20 minutes in place of Austin Daye, who was used in that role against Boston. Novak scored nine points off the bench, knocking down his first three triples in his Raptors debut. "We know what Steve is," Casey said. "We know who he is [and] what he can do. We wanted to give him a turn tonight." Novak, a 45 per cent three-point shooter over the last two seasons in New York, is as automatic as they come in the corner but the challenge for Casey will be masking him on defence and surrounding him with players he will complement. "From a distance you may not see exactly whats going on, but some nights some guys are playing, other [nights] guys arent," Novak said of the preseason. "I think a lot of it is for the coaches to see what theyre comfortable with, where they want to play guys [and] just see how guys react." Fallen Comrade Raptors fans received disheartening news prior to Wednesdays preseason home opener when it was reported that the teams beloved mascot, the Raptor, tore his Achilles tendon during a community visit in Halifax this weekend and will be sidelined for the season. Widely considered the best mascot in the NBA, the Raptor - and the man wearing the suit - has been with the organization, entertaining fans since the inaugural season in 1995-96. "I was disappointed," Casey said of his reaction when he heard the news. "My daughter cried. She was upset." "Hell bounce back. Hes in good hands with the physicians. The Raptor will be back, he will be back. We need his spirit and hes in our thoughts and prayers." Up Next Andrea Bargnani will make his highly-anticipated return to the Air Canada Centre with his new team, the Knicks, who make the first of two preseason visits to Toronto on Friday. MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City delivered a devastating attacking display to humble Tottenham 6-0 on Sunday, sending a warning to its title rivals by condemning Spurs to their joint heaviest Premier League defeat in 17 years. Jesus Navas bookended yet another huge home win for City by scoring after 14 seconds and again in second-half stoppage time, with Sergio Aguero also netting in each half to add to an own goal by Sandro and a brilliant strike by Alvaro Negredo. "We have to be ashamed of a result like this," Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas said. "To lose 6-0 is extremely embarrassing." City, which stayed six points behind leader Arsenal after 12 games, was 5-0 ahead after 56 minutes and has now scored 18 goals in its last three home games in all competitions. If Manuel Pellegrinis side can sort out its dreadful away form, it will surely be favourite to land a second league title in three years. "It is impossible to play better than we did today," Pellegrini said. Tottenham is languishing in ninth place despite spending more than 100 million pounds (now $160 million) on mostly attacking talent in the summer. And with Manchester United up next weekend, they could yet find themselves even further out of the title picture in a season that had initially promised so much. With just nine goals in 12 league games, scoring has become a serious problem since the summer departure to Real Madrid of Gareth Bale, who saved them so often last season. Not since a 7-1 loss to Newcastle in December 1996 have they been beaten by a six-goal margin -- and it could have been a lot worse. City, meanwhile, remains the enigma of the season. Flawless in six matches at the Etihad, they have picked up just four points so far from a possible 18 on their travels. As so often at home, City exploded out of the traps -- Spurs midfielder Sandro was sick on the pitch, such was the intensity of the opening minutes -- and had the game sewn up at halftime. And the hosts were given a helping hand by Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Spurs approach is to play the ball out from the back through the France goalkeeper but the tactic backfired here before mmany fans had settled in their seats. Anthony Davis USA Jersey. Lloris weak clearance went straight to Aguero and although Lloris saved the Argentines curling shot, the ball fell to Navas, who curled a clever shot over the keeper into the top corner for Citys fastest ever goal in 21 seasons of the Premier League and the second quickest this campaign. "It was a difficult start for us," Villas-Boas said. "After that, everything you had in mind goes down the drain." Spurs enjoyed some early possession, with Erik Lamela having a shot cleared off the line by Martin Demichelis, but they always looked vulnerable at the back and Lloris was at his best to deny Aguero chipping in for the second after seven minutes. Lloris was his own worst enemy for the second goal too, making another tame kick to spark a City attack that saw Samir Nasri feed the ball to Aguero, whose effort was parried away to Negredo. The Spain strikers volley from eight yards deflected off Younes Kaboul onto the leg of Sandro and into the back of net. Aguero wrapped up a perfect first half for the hosts by steering in a textbook cross from Navas and Spurs were on their knees. It was to get much, much worse. Yaya Toure had cantered through the first 45 minutes but he burst into life in the 50th by exchanging passes with Negredo and storming into the box, where he crossed unselfishly for Aguero to sidefoot home for his 15th goal in 13 games. "For me, Kun (Aguero) is just after (Lionel) Messi and (Cristiano) Ronaldo as one of the best three players in the world," Pellegrini said. Nasri toe-poked against the bar before Negredo span his marker from Fernandinhos through-ball and fired a brilliant finish into the top corner. 5-0 and still more than half an hour left. Mercifully for Tottenham, Aguero and Nasri were taken off soon after the hour mark but the introduction of forgotten man Emmanuel Adebayor for his first appearance of the season failed to spark Spurs. And after starting the rout, Navas finished it after more dreadful defending by Spurs. A raking pass by James Milner failed to be cut out by Jan Vertonghen and Navas ran through to slip a finish past Lloris. Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '
TOKYO -- Milos Raonic may have been tired, but it didnt show. Steve Nash Mavericks Jersey . The third-seeded Canadian downed Japans Go Soeda 6-4, 7-6 (0) on Wednesday in the first round of the Japan Open as he tries to finish the ATP Tour season on a high note. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., finished with a forehand winner down the line as he completely overwhelmed his Japanese opponent in the tiebreaker. "I did a lot of things well, I served well in tough situations even if my serve was going in and out a bit. It was an early match for me (11 a.m.)," said Raonic, who won the Thailand Open on Sunday. "Most of my matches in Bangkok were in late afternoon or at night. "But I believe I have adjusted well. Ive dealt with a lot of issues but in the important moments my game has held up. I served well and played a good tiebreaker, I buckled down when I had to." Raonic will next play Jeremy Chardy of France, who defeated Swiss qualifier Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-6 (6). The 22-year-old Canadian is a provisional 11th in the race to the eight-man season wrapup in London next month and is working in Asia to try to qualify for the elite event for the first time. Raonic improved to 38-17 on the season with the victory. Soeda is now 0-9 at his home tournament. Raonic had 24 aces and never faced a break point. His break of Soeda in the third game of the opening set was enough to win the set after 35 minutes with his 10th ace. He dominated in the second-set tiebreaker to earn the victory. Raonic took a break after Wimbledon and has been working on his conditioning in recent weeks. Hes won 17 matches and lost five since his appearance at the All-England Club. "I think taking a longer period after Wimbledon to work on fitness really helped me," said Raonic. "When I returned to the court I had more confidence and Ive kept that going. Its still helping me a lot at this moment." Raonic is playing Tokyo for the fourth straight year, standing 7-3 in the Japanese capital after making his breakthrough as a qualifier in only his second ATP-level event. Also Wednesday, top-seeded Juan Martin del Potro moved into the quarter-finals with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over fellow Argentine Carlos Berlocq. Del Potro broke Berlocqs serve twice in the second set, and lost only eight points on serve under the roof, closed by rain. After Tuesdays three-set victory over Marcos Baghdatis, del Potro said it was good to find his rhythm. "I played a lot better than yesterday," del Potro said. "I served well, my forehand was strong and I was able to break his serve and be aggressive. I had control of the match all the time which was important to me." Del Potro, who is seeking his third title of the season following victories in Rotterdam and Washington, will next play Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine, who defeated eighth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 6-3, 7-6 (2). In the days only upset, Ivan Dodig of Croatia ousted second-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 7-6 (5). Matching 2009 champion Tsonga with nine aces, Dodig saved all three break points he faced. Dodig will attempt to earn a place in his third semifinal of 2013 against Jarkko Nieminen of Finalnd, who beat Michal Przysiezny of Poland 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2. NEW YORK -- The Washington Capitals reveled in what they accomplished Sunday night. North Face Womens Denali Hoodie Jacket . The New York Rangers seethed at what they didnt. Steve Oleksy, Jason Chimera and Mikhail Grabovski scored second-period goals in the Capitals 4-1 win over the Rangers. "We felt them deflate a little bit," Oleksy said. Washington defenceman Nate Schmidt added a goal in the third for the Capitals, who beat Nashville at home on Saturday. Schmidt, a 22-year-old rookie, scored his first NHL goal in that game. Grabovskis goal came on a penalty shot. In his fourth NHL game, Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves for Washington (16-12-2) to earn his first career win. The Capitals have won four of five. "Its a huge pressure, but he handled it," Capitals star forward Alex Ovechkin said. "Its good for him and its good for us." New York (15-15-1), beaten at home in overtime by New Jersey on Saturday, has lost three of five. Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves, and Benoit Pouliot scored the Rangers lone goal with 1:53 left to spoil Grubauers shutout bid. The Rangers are 0-1-1 on their team-record, nine-game homestand. Following the loss, the Rangers held a players-only, closed-door meeting for about 15 minutes. The meeting was at least the second they have held this season. "Its one of those things. Its not going to come from anyone else except from the 22 guys in here," New York centre Derek Stepan said. "We have to find a way to grab it. Forget about what happened in the first (number) of games. "It doesnt matter if you were playing well, playing bad. It doesnt matter. We have to start playing as a group." Washington now has a three point lead over New York for second place in the Metropolitan Division. "We need to grasp it here, need to play with some desperation," Stepan said. "Thats the biggest key right now. Points are points right now. You have to win your hockey games." Chimera opened the scoring 2:28 into the second period. He found a loose puck in a cluster of players around the crease and shoved it in before being knocked down by Justin Falk. That ended Lundqvists shutout streak against Washington at 202 minutes, 28 seconds, dating to Game 6 of last seasons first-round playoff series. Just 25 seconds later, Oleksy ripped a slap shot past Lundqvist to give Washington a 2-0 lead. Grabovski was awarded a penalty shot with 1:34 left in the second after Ryan McDonagh hooked him on a breakaway. Grabovski then beat Lundqvist glove side with a slap shot from between the circles. "We thought he was going to fake it and go five-hole," Chimera said. "Weve seen him score like that before on penalty shots. It was pretty good. Didnt know the little guy had it in him." Schmidt pushed the lead to 4-0 with 2:57 left. Much of the game was played on the perimeter as both teams clogged the middle of the ice in their defensive zones. Washington recorded 36 shots, and New York finished with 31. "We checked them pretty good," Chimera said. "It was one of those games that we didnt give them much, which is really good." Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play. Despite the playoff history between the two teams, the game lacked emotion outside of several scrums. Offensive stars Ovechkin and Rick Nash of the Rangers were given roughing penalties during a late second-period dust-up. "Just a hockey play," Nash said. "He was finishing his check, and I was trying to get a spark for the guys." By the end of the game, many of the announced 18,006 in attendance had left. Those that remained offered the Rangers a less-than-stellar job performance evaluation. "We should be the ones dictating everything," McDonagh said. "Especially home games, its been too easy for teams coming in here. (We need to) come out with a lot of fire and get some hits, some blocked shots and get the crowd into it. "They really had nothing to stand up for tonight, and its something were ashamed of. Its something we take some pride in here and try (to) correct." NOTES: New York D Marc Staal sat out after being injured Saturday against New Jersey. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault described the ailment as "neck issues which are causing him to have some symptoms." Staal, who has a history of concussions, hadnt yet been diagnosed with another. "Were taking every precaution," Vigneault said. "Well probably know more in the next day or two." Swansea capitalized on the 80th-minute sending-off of substitute Fabio Da Silva by scoring in the last minute through Wilfried Bony in a 2-1 win at United, the latest setback for David Moyes in his turbulent first season with the English champions. United has lost four of its last six games at Old Trafford in all competitions and failed to reach the fourth round for only the second time in 30 years. "We had another big game in 48 hours time so we have to keep that in mind (but) no excuse," said Moyes, referring to the first leg of a League Cup semifinal against Sunderland on Tuesday. "We had a strong team out. Nearly every player out there was an international." Like United, West Ham used a lineup full of reserves ahead of its League Cup semifinal against Manchester City on Wednesday, and the gamble backfired. The injury-hit Premier League struggler was crushed 5-0 at second-tier Nottingham Forest in the third rounds biggest shock. "We had a huge amount of problems in terms of the available members of the squad so Ive got to keep them intact, thats a major priority," said West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, who was already under pressure with his team next to last in the league. "Many, many managers have changed the team in all divisions, but my changes had to be severe. I didnt want it to be but it had to be." Chelsea and Liverpool played stronger lineups -- and it showed. Second-half goals by John Obi Mikel and Oscar earned Chelsea a 2-0 victory at Derby, while Liverpool avenged last seasons surprise defeat to third-tier Oldham in this competition by winning 2-0 at Anfield thanks to Iago Aspas first goal for the club and an own goal by James Tarkowski. That game also saw Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers go up against his own son, Anton, who plays for Oldham and came on as a second-half substitute. "Ive seen Antons life from when he was a young footballer and to see him run out there was a bit surreal really," Rodgers said. Sunderland beat third-tier Carlisle 3-1 in the other thiird-round match featuring a Premier League team. North Face Jacket Mens Sale. The fear factor about visiting Old Trafford has disappeared since Alex Ferguson left United last summer and Swansea was the latest team to take advantage, recording its first win at the home of the champions. "Lets not kid ourselves, its a really bad result," United midfielder Darren Fletcher said. The Welsh side was helped by Moyes picking a shadow team that was missing injured strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, as well as senior players Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick. And Wayne Routledge put Swansea ahead in the 12th minute, running onto Alejandro Pozuelos through ball and lobbing goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard. Javier Hernandez turned in Alexander Buttners cross four minutes later for the equalizer, and Moyes said he was disappointed not to see his team kick on from then. Fabio was given a straight red card for a studs-first lunge at Jose Canas, just four minutes after coming on as a substitute, and Bony made United pay by rising to head in Routledges left-wing cross to cap an impressive performance. "In my world, they are still a big team and for us to beat them, we still have to do a very good performance," Swansea manager Michael Laudrup said. Allardyce fielded an unrecognizable starting XI featuring a host of youth-team players at The City Ground and they collapsed in the second half. Djamel Abdouns goal gave Forest a 1-0 lead at halftime before Jamie Paterson scored a hat trick and Andy Reid completed the humiliation with the fifth in injury time. West Hams lineup further highlights the FA Cups increasing lack of appeal in the eyes of many top clubs nowadays but Allardyce made no apologies and knows there may be repercussions. "There might be, who knows?" Allardyce said. "Im not saying it wont happen unless I start to get results. I have got to get results, I know that." The depth of Chelseas squad shone through as Mikel headed home Willians free kick in the 66th minute for only his fourth goal for the club in 300 appearances, before Brazil playmaker Oscar struck a fierce shot in at the near post five minutes later. Chelsea will host Stoke in the fourth round while Liverpool must travel to Bournemouth or Burton. Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '
