Whalers 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action on Thursday. Hope tied the game with
his 22nd of the season at 5:57 and scored the winner for Owen Sound (29-28-8) on
a power play with less than six minutes to play. Matt Mistele was the lone
scorer for Plymouth (27-31-7), finding the back of the net at 14:24 of the first
period. Attack goaltender Brandon Hope stopped 25 shots for his 27th win of the

STEELHEADS 4 (SO) ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Luke Mercer scored once in regulation,
then netted the shootout winner to lift Niagara over Mississauga. Eric Ming
scored three goals and Blake Sienbenaler added two assists for the IceDogs
(23-35-8). Sam Babintsev scored a hat trick for the Steelheads (23-37-6) and
Brett Foy also scored. Spencer Martin stopped 39 shots. Brent Moran started in
net for Niagara but left the game after giving up four goals on 31 shots. Blake

Ont. — Barclay Goodrow scored twice, including a short-handed goal in the first
period, to the lead the Battalion over the Generals. Zach Bratina also scored
for North Bay (35-24-6), which has won three in a row. The Battalion outshot
East division-leading Oshawa 31-20, and both teams were 0 for 5 on the power
play. Jake Smith picked up the shutout after making 20 saves, while Generals

apiece to lift the Colts over the 67s. Jake Dotchin, and Aaron Ekblad also

19:49 as the Colts extended their win streak to three games. Nevin Guy scored

(17-42-7), who snapped a six-game losing streak. Nick Magya had two goals and an
assist for the Rangers (22-41-3), and Brent Pedersen, Mason Khon, Darby
Llewellyn and Dominik Kubalik also scored. Logan Schmidt picked up four assists
as Kitchener lost its 10th straight. Sarnias Taylor Dupuis made 31 saves. Jordan

period, as Erie edged Windsor for its sixth straight win. Andre Burakovsky

their province its first mens Canadian senior curling championship on Saturday
by downing Manitobas Kelly Robertson 9-8. OLeary, who skipped Nova Scotia in the
1993 and 1994 Briers, trailed 8-7 heading into the final end, but stole two in
the 10th to claim victory. Robertson trailed OLeary by two after the first end
and 6-4 after six ends before responding with a three spot in the seventh to go
ahead 7-6, Manitobas first lead of the match. OLeary, along with teammates
Andrew Dauphinee, Danny Christianson and Harold McCarthy of the Halifax
Mayflower Curling Club finished round-robin play tied with Manitoba at 9-2, but
were awarded a bye into the final becausee of a 9-7 win over Robertson in an
earlier draw.

Lois Fowler and Manitoba toppled Lorraine Arguin and her rink from Saskatchewan
5-1 in the final to be crowned womens senior curling champions. Scoreless
through three ends, Fowler opened up a 1-0 edge in the fourth and it remained
that way until the seventh, when Arguin responded with one of her own. Fowler
and her team of Maureen Bonar, Cathy Gauthier and Allyson Stewart from the
Brandon Curling Club took three in the eighth and added one more in the ninth.
Fowler finished third at the Canadian seniors in 2009 and 2013, but had never
won. In 1993 she was runner-up to Sandra Schmirler in the Scotties Tournament of
Hearts.
