MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact didnt even need to step on the field to clinch a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals. Brett Cecil Jersey .The idle Impact advanced to the Champions League knockout stage late Wednesday night after the New York Red Bulls failed to earn a victory in El Salvador in Group-3 action. The 0-0 draw between the Red Bulls and C.D. FAS in Central America means New York cannot catch Montreal in the standings, thus guaranteeing the Impact top spot in the three-team group. As a result, Montreals Olympic Stadium will be awash with blue and white when the Impact play a quarter-final match at home next February, the teams first in six years. To qualify without having to play the last group game shows how much effort we put into it, and the types of performances we put in, said Jack McInerney on Thursday. Its great exposure for the club. Goals were reached last night.Montreal opened its 2014-15 CCL campaign with back-to-back one-goal victories against FAS a€” 1-0 at Saputo Stadium and 3-2 in San Salvadors Estadio Cuscatlan in August. Last week, the Impact defeated a largely inexperienced Red Bulls side 1-0 at home to take a six-point lead atop the group.New Yorks failure to win on Wednesday helped Montreal partly redeem an embarrassing Major League Soccer season. With the Impact (6-17-6) in last place in the Eastern Conference and eliminated from the MLS playoffs, the teams fans have had little to celebrate this season. The promise of February soccer in the city is the years silver lining. Were in the best eight teams in North America, said Marco Di Vaio, who scored four goals in three matches so far in the CCL group stage. Its a big day for the club. In February, theres a big game in the teams history. Its a historic moment for the city and the fans.Although he was instrumental in getting the club to the quarter-finals, Di Vaio will likely play his final game with the Impact next month, and thus miss Februarys CCL showdown.Last week, the 38-year-old strongly suggested he would return to Italy after his contract with the Impact expires in October regardless of Montreals Champions League aspirations. The teams guaranteed spot in the quarter-final has done little to sway the Italian striker.I cant come back just for two games, said Montreals fourth all-time leading goal scorer. This doesnt change anything. If I come back, it will be for the full year, not just two months. The Impact are returning to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2009, when the team was eliminated by Mexicos Santos Laguna 5-4 on aggregate. Montreal was still competing in the lower-tier North American Soccer League at time. After beating teams from Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago in the group stage that year, the Impact were sitting pretty after their first quarter-final leg, a 2-0 victory played in front of more than 55,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium.Impact Academy product Maxim Tissot, who was 17 at the time, remembers the game like it was yesterday. He watched from the Big O grandstands as Impact great Eduardo Sebrango scored twice to give Montreal the victory. The atmosphere was something else, said Tissot, who was playing for Montreals farm team, the Trois-Rivieres Attak, at the time. I remember it well. What a game! Two weeks later, Montreal took a one-goal lead into halftime in Torreon, Mexico, before a stunning second-half meltdown sent the Impact tumbling out of the competition.I thought for sure we would win, said Tissot, now 22 years old. For the guys who watched that game, we dont want a repeat of that. We have to move past the quarter-finals this time with that game in mind.Despite already qualifying for the knockout stage, Montreal still has a lot to play for in its last CCL group stage match against New York at Red Bull Arena on Oct. 22.The eight teams that qualify for the quarter-finals will be seeded according to the number of points accumulated in the group stage. The top-four seeded teams will have the benefit of playing their return leg at home, a luxury not afforded to the Impact squad that conceded five goals in Mexico in 2009.The last game still means a lot, said McInerney, who will likely see his playing time on the rise between now and the end of the season. You can miss some big teams in the next round if we go to New York and get a result. Its definitely on our mind right now. With more group-stage matches still to be played, only three other clubs have secured their place in the quarter-finals. D.C. United, Mexicos Pachuca, and Costa Ricas Herediano could face Montreal in late February and early March. And barring final-game collapses, fellow MLS teams Sporting Kansas City and Portland will also clinch a spot in the quarter-final.With travel time in mind, Impact players are already indicating their preference to face a team in the United States. If you have to travel down south, its going to be tough, said McInerney. An MLS team would be ideal for us. But whether we go to Mexico or D.C., its a big opportunity.Added Tissot: Wed be more comfortable with what we know. We may not want to face Mexican teams because theyre so good. But well be ready in any case.Notes: Montreal will play the first leg of its quarter-final either Feb. 24 or Feb. 25. The return leg will be played either March 3 or March 4. a€| Montreal is representing Canada in this edition of the Champions League after winning the Canadian Championship in June. He deserves the opportunity to be in there and he had a very good game against Columbus, regardless of the score line.Bush made four saves on six shots in Columbus, giving up two goals to midfielder Bernardo Anor. The Venezuelan beat Bush low to his left in the 56th minute with a strike from the top of the 18-yard box. In the 75th, Anors right-footed shot from distance curled away from Bush and flew into the top corner of the net for the game-winner.Since joining the Impact in 2011, Montreals backup keeper has started just three MLS matches (0-3-0), played in four CONCACAF Champions League games (2-2-0), and led the team to back-to-back Canadian Championships (3-2-3) in 2013 and 2014.Thats part of being on a team, said Bush, who has yet to record a victory in North Americas highest league. Within a team, you have changes based on different situations. You have to step in when they call upon you.Bush was called upon to replace Perkins, Montreals starter since being acquired by the Impact in 2012. The Ohio native had made all 17 starts for the Impact in MLS before last Saturdays match. The week before, in the dying minutes of a game against Sporting Kansas City, a defensive mistake by Perkins cost Montreal a point and may have ultimately cost Perkins his starters role.Klopas, however, insists the decision to start Bush is simply to reduce Perkins workload.Troy is very good. But with the amount of games, maybe hes not as sharp, maybe hes a little bit tired, said Klopas. Its just about form. Its the same with players on the field. The guys have to understand that if they work hard, theyre going to get opportunities to play. Guys are going to come in and out of form. You have to use the depth of a squad. We have two very good goalkeepers, including a younger guy whos pushing, whos eager to play, but who needs time. (Bush) has been looking good and sharp in training sessions and in the game hes played. If the Impact (3-10-5) hope to record their first road victory of the year, Bush will likely have to put together the best performance of his young MLS career against third-place Real Salt Lake (7-4-8). The last-place Impact have offered their goalies little offensive support this season, scoring a league-low one goal per game. The numbers are even worse on the road. Montreal has just six goals away from Saputo Stadium for a minus-11 goal differential. The lone bright spot going into Thursday may be Maarco Di Vaios rejuvenation. Jose Bautista Replica Jersey. The Italian striker, who had scored just once in eight appearances to start the year, has three goals in his last four games.Di Vaio will be looking to add to Real Salt Lakes recent woes. After starting the 2014 campaign unbeaten in their first 12 games, Jeff Kassars men have lost four of their last seven, scoring just five goals over that stretch.Despite the poor run of form, Real Salt Lake can always rely on Joao Plata and Costa Rican international Alvaro Saborio, who have scored eight and six times respectively this season. Its going to be a good challenge, said defender Hassoun Camara. Theyre one of the best teams of the league. Why not win over there? If were going, its because we think we can get something out of the game. Were not going there just to look pretty.Theyre a good possession team, theyre good with the ball, added Klopas. They have quality players who are comfortable on the ball and in their decision-making. They give good tempo to the game - they know when to speed things up and when to slow things down. They push numbers forward; their outside backs get involved in the game.Since returning from the World Cup break last month, the Impact have put together a few solid performances, but have a 1-3-1 record to show for them. With 16 games remaining on the season, Montreal is currently nine points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Their current three-game losing streak is the teams longest since opening the season with three straight losses.Theres a lot of frustration, for sure, said captain Patrice Bernier. You play well, but you dont get the result, you arent rewarded. Were losing because of minor details. Were losing by one goal; were not getting crushed. At this point in the season, were paying the price for the smallest misstep. Theres a bit of bad luck, sure. We cant give up even the slightest of chances.Bernier assures the question marks surrounding the teams starting goaltender are not an added distraction.Nobodys thinking about that, he said. Were in a period of changes. There may be more changes coming on Thursday. Theres no single player that can be blamed. We all want to win — the coach, the entire team. Were just looking for that winning recipe right now. Its up to us, collectively, to make sure we support all players who have seen better days.Notes: Winger Justin Mapp is questionable for Thursdays game. Kuechly matched the single-game high held by David Harris of the New York Jets. Harris had 24 tackles on Nov. 4, 2007, against Washington. Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork. Eric Dickerson White Jersey .com) - The San Jose Earthquakes announced Tuesday that longtime captain Ramiro Corrales will retire at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Corrales, 36, is the last remaining player in MLS to appear in a match during the leagues inaugural season in 1996. "Its been an honor playing much of my career here in San Jose," Corrales said. "I have a lot of great memories, from that first season in 1996 to the MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003 to the expansion season in 2008. Its been a great ride and Id like to thank everybody - fans, players, coaches - for their support along the way." Corrales currently sits as San Joses all-time leader in games played (249), starts (227) and minutes played (20,117), but is also No. 4 in Earthquakes history with 32 assists and No. 11 with 16 goals. "Ramiro was a phenomenal player and one of the best this club has ever had," said Earthquakes general manager John Doyle. "I think it was great to be able to play with Ramiro and see him mature from a 19-year-old kid to a grown man. His contributions over the years have meant a lot to this organization." Corrales was drafted 81st overall by the Columbus Crew in the 1996 Inaugural Player Draft but was immediately traded to the San Jose Clash. He played two seasons with the Clash before joining the Miami Fusion via the 1997 Expansion Draft, but only managed one appearance with the club. The Salinas, Calif., native was dealt early in the 1998 season to the New York/New Jersey MetroStars where he helped the team reach the MLS Cup Playoffs in 1998 and 2000. Corrales made his return to San Jose in 2001 and guided the club to its most successful stint in franchise history, helping the club to MLS Cup titles in 2001 and 2003. He enjoyed a stint in Europe from 2004 to 2007 with Norwegian sides Hamarkameratene and SK Brann before returning to San Jose for good in 2008. Youth Jamon Brown Jersey . An imposing presence in midfield, the Ghanaian would be the best player on the pitch one game and virtually invisible the next. After starting the 2014 campaign on the bench, Koffie has finally begun to live up to expectations on a daily basis, and both he and the Whitecaps have one of the teams new acquisitions at least partly to thank. Toronto FC dealt Matias Laba to Vancouver right before the start of the season and the Argentine midfielder has slotted seamlessly into the centre of rookie head coach Carl Robinsons formation. The workhorse not only cleans up danger in front of the Whitecaps defence, he also allows Vancouvers attacking players to push forward -- with Koffie being one of the main beneficiaries thus far. The 22-year-old scored from 40 yards out after pouncing on a goalkeeping error in last weekends 2-2 draw with the Seattle Sounders, and had three other clear-cut chances, including a shot that rattled the crossbar in the games opening minutes. "Gersh has got incredible attributes. Hes got the physical strength. When he makes a tackle and he means it, no ones going to beat him. Hes really that powerful," Whitecaps assistant coach Martyn Pert said Thursday. "The consistency part of the game is still something that hes got to really work hard at, and hes getting there, thats four or five games on the spin now hes been very good. "Hes got to keep it going, keep the foot on the pedal and keep driving." Robinson favoured Nigel Reo-Coker in the centre of midfield at the start of the season, but after the Englishman was injured in an off-field incident the Whitecaps turned to Koffie. "I dont think I was disappointed to be on the bench, but that motivated me," said Koffie, whose goal against Seattle was his first of the season. "I have to embrace it because my fellow mates were doing well and it was a coachs decision." Koffie -- who has already played 93 games in his Major League Soccer career -- said Robinson has asked him to go forward more in his attack-minded system, and credits Laba with allowing him that freedom to roam. "Playing with Matias Laba gives me the license to go forward and get some chances,&quoot; said Koffie. Youth Todd Gurley Jersey. "I know hes there to work the defensive part and delay (opponents) before we can get back in (formation)." Labas tenacity has also rubbed off on his midfield counterpart, who tracked back on more than one occasion against Seattle to help out Vancouvers back line. "(Labas) a guy who sets the tone," said Koffie. "If you play next to him, he goes in for tackles (and) you have to do the same. If he goes in chasing the ball, you have to do the same, because you cant let him do the job (alone)." Also just 22, Laba was a casualty of Toronto FCs winter spending spree, with the club unable to retain the designated player it acquired last season. "I didnt expect it, but I think its for the best," Laba said through an interpreter. "Im very happy in Vancouver with a great coach and teammates." Although he often takes care of the less-glamorous tasks on the field, the Whitecaps have come to appreciate his tireless work. "Mati gives us a great dimension to build off of at the back," said Vancouver captain Jay DeMerit. "He lets the guys that are creative express themselves a little bit more, just by giving you a little bit more of a lockdown defensively." Added the selfless Laba: "Ive always played that way -- win balls, win tackles -- and quickly disperse (passes) so my teammates have more time on the ball." Pert has been in awe at how quickly Laba has adapted to his new surroundings. "Matis been incredible since hes come in and the fact he came in two weeks before the start of the season and every game he just never lets you down," said Pert. "Hes absolutely a top, top player. I couldnt speak highly enough of Mati. "He makes incredible tackles, he gets his foot on the ball, he plays it simple." Because of their youth, Laba and Koffie could be patrolling Vancouvers midfield for some time, and the pair are expected to start alongside each other once again when the Whitecaps (4-2-5) visit the Portland Timbers (3-3-7) on Sunday. "(Koffies) a great player and I think we work really well together," said Laba. "I can win balls and that opens space up for him to go forward and attack more. We compliment each other quite well." PHILADELPHIA -- Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo are gone, but the goaltending position has not been forgotten by the Vancouver Canucks. Cheap Jerseys From China. With their second-round pick in Saturdays NHL draft at No. 36, the Canucks took the highest-ranked goalie on the board, Thatcher Demko, as new general manager Jim Benning begins the process of replenishing the organizations goaltending depth. "I believe youve got to have a succession of goalies coming through the system," Benning said Saturday afternoon. "Goaltending is the most important position in an organization. ... I believe to be a top, contending team in the league, you need good goaltending. You can never have enough good goalies." Benning believes Demko, who plays at Boston College, is capable of developing into a No. 1 goaltender. He immediately becomes the Canucks goaltender of the future, especially considering the uncertainty that comes with Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom. "Hopefully theres an opportunity for me," said Demko, a native of San Diego, Calif., who brushed off the idea of pressure. "I think once I get there, youll start to feel it a little bit more with the Canucks fans and how passionate they are." It was at last years draft when ex-GM Mike Gillis traded Schneider -- coincidentally also a Boston College product -- to the New Jersey Devils for the ninth pick, which Vancouver used on London Knights centre Bo Horvat. Just before the trade deadline, the Canucks sent Luongo to the Florida Panthers for Markstrom and forward Shawn Matthias. Markstrom started just three games for the Canucks since the trade. Demko, who has the option of playing one to three more years at Boston College, isnt worried at all about the microscope that goalies are under in Vancouver. He cant wait to see what its like to play in a Canadian market. "Im going to thrive in it," he said. "Youve got to play in pressure and thats kind of just the nature of it. Youve got to thrive in those situations or youre not going to have success." Demko might get a taste of a pressure situation at the world junior championship because hes a candidate to start for the United States in the tournament that takes place in Montreal and Toronto. "Obviously you want to be the starter at world juniors, (it) is a goal," he said. "But theres a lot of other guys that could easily have that position." Part of drafting Demko was Bennings familiarity with him from living in Boston and watching him play often. The same can be said for winger Linden Vey, whom the Canucks acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday for the 50th pick. At 22, Vey has just 18 games of NHL experience and five assists in that time. But Benning watched him play with the Kings AHL affiliate in Manchester and said hell make the Canucks next season. "Hes ready to play in the NHL now," Benning said. "Hell start out as a third-line guy. I think once hes up and going, maybe it takes a year, maybe it takes a year and a half but I think hes got the skill to be a second-line centre at some point." It doesnt hurt that Vey also played for new coach Willie Desjardins with the WHLs Medicine Hat Tigers. Derek Dorsett, acquired from the New York Rangers on Friday, also was in Medicine Hat with Desjardins. That No. 50 pick wasnt the Canucks until they traded defenceman Jason Garrison to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday afternoon. The Kings used it on Victoria goalie Alec Dillon. Vancouver took six-foot-seven Russian defenceman Nikita Tryamkin 66th, Swedish defenceman Gustav Forsling 126th, Erie Otters centre Kyle Pettit 156th and Prince Albert Raiders defenceman MacKenzie Stewart 186th. Those players join the Canucks youth movement along with first-rounders Jake Virtanen and Jared McCann. But the most intriguing addition on Day 2 was Demko, who has prototypical NHL goalie size at six-foot-three. "My size is a tool, but I dont like to rely on it," Demko said. "I can use it, but I still like to react to pucks and kind of play athletic. Its something Im still working on, but its one of the biggest pieces of my game." Demko isnt just confident in himself but also in his ability to withstand the heat in Vancouver. He grew up considering Martin Brodeur a role model but ultimately might want to get some advice from Luongo. "Hopefully I can appeal to the fans up there and make them love me instead of hate me," Demko said. China Jerseys . Agent Andy Simms said on Twitter that Young will sign the deal to stay in Oakland. The Raiders have not made an announcement because the contract has not yet been signed. Oakland also formally announced that running back Darren McFadden signed his one-year contract to return to the team. Young joined Oakland last season on a one-year deal with expectations to become the starting free safety. But a little more than a month after signing Young, the Raiders signed Charles Woodson to a one-year deal to fill that spot. Young moved into a backup role and played well when he got his chance on defence and special teams. He started once in his 12 games before being placed on injured reserve with a neck injury in December. With Woodson a free agent and uncertain to return to Oakland, Young could get another chance to start this season. The 29-year-old Young had one interception, three passes defenced and 2 1/2 sacks last season with the Raiders, playing about one-quarter of the defensive snaps when healthy. Young spent his first four seasons in New Orleans when Oakland coach Dennis Allen ran the secondary for the Saints. The two won a Super Bowl in New Orleans following the 2009 season. Young then played two years in Cleveland before joining Oakland. He has eight interceptions, five sacks and 25 passes defenced in 2013 career games. Young is the fifth defensive player signed so far in free agency by the Raiders, joining defensive linemen Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodley and Antonio Smith and cornerback Tarell Brown. While Oakland is a rebuilding process following 11 straight non-winning seasons and two years of being severely hampered by the salary cap, their moves so faar on defence have been mostly short-term fixes. Cheap Jerseys. All five players signed are at least 29 years old. But the Raiders had plenty of holes they needed to fill on defence. Starting defensive linemen LaMarr Houston and Vance Walker have already left as free agents, while Pat Sims and Jason Hunter are still on the market. Cornerback Tracy Porter signed with Washington and fellow starter Mike Jenkins and Woodson are still free agents. Bringing back Young will give some stability to a unit that likely will have new starters at all four defensive line spots, as well as both cornerback positions. The Raiders showed signs of progress on defence early last season before wilting late in the year and allowing the second-most points per game (28.3) in franchise history. Oakland has had two of the three highest-scoring seasons allowed in coach Allens first two years with the franchise. McFadden has struggled to stay healthy since being picked fourth overall out of Arkansas in 2008, missing 29 games in six seasons. McFadden had his biggest success in two years with Hue Jackson calling plays, averaging more than 5 yards per carry in 2010 and 11. But he has averaged just 3.3 yards per carry the past two seasons, second-worst in the NFL in that span to the recently retired Rashard Mendenhall. A move from a zone-blocking to a power scheme was supposed to spark McFadden last season but he rushed for just 379 yards and averaged 3.3 yards per carry in 10 games. But he gets a chance return on a one-year deal that guarantees him only $100,000 and could reach a maximum of $4 million. "There is no place Id rather be," he said. "I want to prove to the team that drafted me that I am a top running back in this league, and I really want to help this team win. Im happy to be back in Oakland." PITTSBURGH -- All eyes were supposed to be on Gregory Polanco. http://www.baratassuperstar.com/zapatillas-adidas-superstar-graphic-pack-khaki-marrones-hombre-mujer.html . But thanks to his new-found success against left-handed pitchers, Anthony Rizzo stole the show. Rizzo homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead the Chicago Cubs over the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 Tuesday night, spoiling Polancos much-anticipated debut. Rizzo hit a two-run homer in the first inning off lefty Francisco Liriano, who came out in the fourth with discomfort on his right side. Rizzo also doubled and scored in the fourth and hit an RBI double in the seventh, a drive to deep right-centre that struck Polancos left wrist as the touted Pirates rookie tried to make the catch. Rizzo has five home runs and a .344 batting average in 61 at-bats against left-handers this season. Last year, he batted .189 with seven homers against southpaws in 189 at-bats. "I feel more comfortable against them now and its the best Ive ever hit left-handers at any level," Rizzo said. "I dont know if Ill ever figure lefties out -- or right-handers, either -- but I do feel confident against them." Rizzo has every reason to feel confident. He has five homers in his last 10 games, raising his season total to 13. "You can talk about mechanics and scouting reports and everything else, but the biggest thing in this game is confidence," Rizzo said. "If you step into the batters box with confidence, then youre giving yourself a much better chance to hit." Polanco went 1 for 5 after getting called up from Triple-A Indianapolis, where the right fielder was leading the International League with a .347 batting average and 49 RBIs in 62 games. "It was a lot of fun," he said. "It was exciting. I was a little nervous at first but then I relaxed and had fun." Pinch-hitter Luis Valbuenas two-run double off Casey Sadler (0-1) broke a 3-all tie in the sixth and put Chicago ahead for good. Travis Wood (6-5) allowed three runs and nine hits in 6 2-3 innings. "It was a grind at times but I got through it," Wood said. Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run homer for the Pirates, his ninth of the season and fifth in nine June games. Valbuena and Junior Lake each had two hits for the Cubs, as did Pittsburghs Russell Martin and Starling Marte. Rizzo scored on a single by Starlin Castro in the seventh to push Chicagos lead to 7-3. Rizzos homer put the Cubs up 2-0, but the Pirates tied it on McCutchens drive in the third. In the top of the fourth, Rizzo led off with a double and scored on Darwin Barneys double. Pittsburgh tied it again in the bottom half on pinch-hitter Jose Tabatas RBI double. "Rizzos blast there in the first inning kind of got us rolling and we did a good job of adding on runs after that," Chicago manager Rick Renteria said. Liriano allowed two runs in three-plus innings. He bent over and held his back after throwing a pitch to Rizzo, then left the mound after a few warmup pitches. After leading the Pirates with 16 wins last season, Liriano has struggled this year. He is 1-6 with a 4.60 ERA in 14 starts. Liriano will almost certainly miss his scheduled start Sunday in Miami and could land on the disabled list. Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole (right shoulder fatigue) went on the DL on Sunday and second baseman Neil Walker (appendectomy) followed him Tuesday. DALLAS -- Kari Lehtonen credits one save in the second period with making his 100th victory with the Dallas Stars possible.http://www.francenationalshop.com/Adil-Rami-France-Jersey/ . Jamie Benn and Colton Sceviour scored goals 15 seconds apart in the first period Thursday night, leading the Dallas Stars to a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. "It was just one of those things at the right time. Sometimes you make a good save, sometimes you dont. That one gave me a lot of confidence," Lehtonen said. "It was a 2-1 at the time, and everything took off from there." Barely a minute into the second, Lehtonen stopped Jannik Hansen with a glove save. "The defining moment in the game was that save he made in the second," teammate Rich Peverley said. "It could have been a 2-2 game right there." Vancouver (20-11-6) lost on the road for the second time in three nights following a seven-game winning streak. They had earned at least a point in eight consecutive games. The Stars won consecutive games for the first time since a three-game winning streak Nov. 13-17. They also have won both games against the Canucks, with Lehtonen allowing only one goal in each game. Dallas (17-12-5) started fast, taking six of the first seven shots on goal, including Benns goal at 4:34 and Sceviours third in four NHL games this season at 4:49. Erik Cole had a goal and two assists, and Tyler Seguin and Peverley added two assists apiece for Dallas. But it was Lehtonen who made the biggest plays. He stopped short-range shots by Hansen on a 2-on-1 short-handed rush and by Brad Richardson 2 seconds after Ryan Keslers penalty expired midway through the first period. Canucks coach John Tortorella also noted the importance of Lehtonens saves. "Lehtonen made some great saves at key times. Weve seen that before against him. Yeah, we couldnt score and the third one hurt us." Cole scored Dallas third goal at 16:56 of the second. His shot trickled past goalie Roberto Luongos right side and across the goal line. "It was a wrister," Luongo said. "I think it might have fallen between my legs or something. But whatever it is, its inexcusable at that point in the game." In the third period, Coles backhand pass set up Valeri Nichushkin in the right faceoff circle, and his shot beat Luongo. "(Cole) put the puck on the net and somehow got a goal," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "And he made a heck of a play on Vals goal. (Cole) is a big man, and hes hard to control." Tortorella then replaced the goalie with Eddie Lack. Luongo stopped just 15 of 19 shots. Lehtonen made 26 saves and allowed only one goal, to Chris Higgins at 7:38 of the first. Dallas goalie had allowed 10 goals during his previous two starts and 23 in compiling a 2-3-1 record over the last six. "Ive had a rough go the last couple of weeks, so its nice to have a good game," Lehtonen said. "That made me more relaxed." Ruff said, "He got some big, timely saves." Lehtonen said of his 100th win, "I didnt know about it until just after the game when they announced it. Hopefully, Ill have a lot more." Vancouvers second shot of the game was Higgins goal from the right faceoff circle. The Stars had the games first power play midway through the period, but the Canucks had the best scoring chances, by Hansen and Richardson. Dallas finally broke through for a 3-1 lead on Coles goal. Cody Eakin beat Luongo with a shot 22 seconds before the period ended, but the goal was waved off because of an interference penalty against the Stars Ryan Garbutt. "I think we started really well. We were generating much of the offence," Lehtonen said. "They bounced back in the second period." But the Canucks failed to score in the second despite a 13-5 advantage in shots. "We knew they were going to come out with a push in the second," Ruff said. "I think in the last 10 minutes of the period, we got back on our game." Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork. Matt Cassel Jersey .com) - Christina Kim fired a second-round, 3-under 69 on Friday and she was able to hang on and maintain her 1-shot lead heading into the weekend at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Kim, who entered the day one shot ahead of Azahara Munoz, finished 36 holes at 10-under-par 134 at Club de Golf Mexico. Kim has not won on tour since taking home the Tournament of Champions title back in 2005. Paula Creamer was the biggest threat to Kim on Friday as she held the lead by herself at one point. Creamer finished the day with a 7-under 65 and she is alone in second at 9-under 135. Suzann Pettersen also had a strong day, shooting a 6-under 66 and jumping into a tie for third place with Pornanong Phatlum (68), 17-year-old LPGA Rookie of the Year Lydia Ko (69) and Munoz (71). World No. 1 Inbee Park is alone in 10th at 4-under 140 after a 70 on Friday, while world No. 2 Stacy Lewis (70) is tied for 27th at 2-over 146. Defending champion Lexi Thompson (72) is eight shots back at minus-2 and she is tied for 14th with four others. After going bogey free on day one, Kim tripped to a couple bogeys on Friday, but she was able to hold on to her lead. Kim started her day on fire, however, as she drained three birdies on her first four holes on one, two and four. Following a pair of pars on five and six, Kim dropped two shots in three holes with bogeys on seven and nine, putting her at 8-under as she made the turn. Kim was able to put her game in cruise control on the back nine. Following a trio of pars from 10, Kim made her fourth gain on the par-4 13th. Another pair of pars on 14 and 15 preceded Kims fifth and final birdie of the day on 16, which broke a tie with Creamer atop the leaderboard. Kim finished up with two pars to remain in the lead after 36 holes. Yesterday I was lucky enough to have two eagles so that immediately made the score a lot better. And I had no bogeys yesterday, Kim said. Today I had two bogeys. Its just difficult when youre in the lead and theres such a fantastic field and everyones coming after you. Its been a while since Ive been in this position. And just trying to get back into it. Just enjoying myself. Creamer finished day one with a 2-under 70, but she made up for it with a very strong day on Friday. Creamer also began her day well with three birdies in her first four holes on one, three and four, getting her well into red numbers early. Following three straight pars from five, Creamer rolled in her fourth gain on the par-4 eighth before closing out the front nine with a par on nine. It was more of the same on the back side for Creamer. After another par on 10, Creamer made three more birdies in four holes on 11, 13 and 14. The birdie on 14 gave Creamer a lead at 9-under before Kim later made a gain on 13 to tie. Creamer ended her round strong with four straight pars to end one shot behind the leader after Kims final birdie on 16. I just have a lot of confidence, Creamer said about her putting. Im really, my routine and what I do when Im over the ball is the same every time. Its more about speed instead of thinking about my stroke or thinking about this. I know that its solid and weve been working really hard on that. Its more of a confidence and seeing the ball go in the hole. NOTES: Creamer finished runner-up to Michelle Wie at this event back in 2009 ... Creamer has one win this season at the HSBC Womens Champions ... Wie (69) is eight shots behind the leader Kim at 2-under 142 through two rounds ... After making eagles on two and 17 Thursday, Kim played those two holes at 1- under with one birdie Friday. SAN ANTONIO -- Steven Bowditch opened a three-stroke lead Saturday in the Texas Open, while Phil Mickelson withdrew after 10 holes because of a pulled muscle in his right side. Bowditch, the 30-year-old Australian seeking his first PGA Tour title, shot a 4-under 68 to reach 12 under at TPC San Antonio. Matt Kuchar and Andrew Loupe were tied for second. Kuchar shot 65, and Loupe had a 70. "Ive won four or five times on between Australia and Web.com," said Bowditch, who would get into the Masters with a victory. "Ive got a little experience, but not a great deal, especially at this level. Ive never slept on a lead, so well see how we go." Mickelson withdrew after pulling the muscle teeing off on No. 1 -- his 10th hole of the round. He hopes to play next week in the Houston Open, the last event before the Masters. "I pulled a muscle on my downswing trying to hit it hard," Mickelson said a statement. "It just killed and it wouldnt subside for 10 or 12 seconds. Im going back to San Diego (for) a couple of days and have a doctor look at it, but theres really not much you can do for a pulled muscle. I hope Ill be OK to play the Shell in Houston, but I just dont know." Lefty was 1-over par in the round and 4 over overall when the three-time Masters champion was taken off the course in a cart. His caddie, Jim Mackay, said Mickelson felt a twinge on his tee shot on No. 1. "Its definitely not his back," Mackay said. "IIts his right side. Kyle Wilber Cowboys Jersey. Its the second time this year Mickelson has withdrawn in the middle of a tournament. He pulled out at Torrey Pines after making the cut because of a back injury. On Friday, Mickelson made the cut on the number, following an opening 77 with a 70. Bowditch, ranked 339th in the world, chipped in at the first two holes, for birdie at No. 1 and an eagle at the par-5 second. He drove to chipping distance at the 338-yard fifth hole and made a 4-foot birdie putt. "(The chip on the first hole) calmed my nerves a little bit," Bowditch said. "It was as easy a chip as youre going to have out here." He cooled after that when he missed the green at No. 9 and bogeyed, then strung together pars until he drove close to the at the 324-yard downwind 17th. He chipped inside a foot and tapped in for birdie and kept his two-stroke lead when Loupe matched the birdie. Loupe closed with a bogey. Kuchar, a six-time winner on the tour, had the best round of the week. He holed out the greenside bunker on No. 1. "Still surprised to be at 7 under today," Kuchar said. "Its not a score I would have thought was out there with these sort of (windy) conditions." Pat Perez was fourth at 8 under after a 69. MONTREAL -- Star defenceman P. Cheap Jerseys .K. Subban is keeping quiet about negotiations on a new contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Subban is scheduled to go to arbitration on Friday unless he can ink a new deal with the club before then. "Ill answer one question about the negotiation: Its been kept pretty quiet the whole time and its going to remain that way until a deals done," he said Saturday at the RBC Canadian Open at Royal Montreal. "As of right now, Im just trying to enjoy the day and not think of anything." No matter how often he was asked in a scrum with media, there was no news on how much money the 2013 Norris Trophy winner is seeking or whether he wants a short or long-term deal. It may end up being among the richest contracts in the league, considering that the NHL salary cap will rise substantially next season and perhaps again the year after that. "Theres a lot of things on my mind," he said. "First of all, I love golf. "My favourite now is Graeme McDowell. I hope he picks it up here and pulls out a win for me. We had a great dinner last night. Hes also represented by RBC. That has taken my focus off a lot of things, not just contractual or hockey things." He applauded the deal the Canadiens signed this week with centre Lars Eller a day before he was scheduled to go to arbitration. Eller, after an ordinary regular season and a strong playoffs, inked a four-year US$14 million contract. "He deserves it," said Subban. "Hes played well and hes a big part of our team." Subban, who helped Canada to hockey gold at the Sochi Games in February, took part in a chipping contest with fellow Olympic athletes Brad Jacobs, a curling gold medallist, and snowboarder Caroline Calve. "This is probably the shortest summer Ive ever had because of how far we went in the playoffs," said Subban, whose team reached the Eastern Conference final. Some of us are morning people while others are night owls. Donovan Smith Orange Jersey . In golf some are early season performers and others wait until the fall. So far in his career, David Hearn is most definitely not someone who enjoys the early part of the calendar. At least not when it comes to logging high finishes. "For whatever reason, Ive never had much success early in the year," said Hearn. "The West Coast just hasnt been good for me." In the four tournaments hes played since the calendar changed years, Hearn as two missed cuts, a T58 and a T38. Its a slow but not unexpected beginning. A year ago, in five West Coast starts, he missed three cuts. A year prior to that, he posted a tie for 10th at the SONY in Hawaii before missing the next two cuts. "Id like to be in a better spot, obviously," said Hearn from Florida where he was getting in some practice before heading to Los Angeles for his next start. "Hopefully that will happen at Riviera." Hearn isnt worried about his spot on the money list just yet. In fact, hes quite optimistic about where things are headed. He says his game is coming together faster than in any previous years, adding theres no glaring holes in his performance - its just a matter of tightening everything up. There hasnt been much down time for the Brantford, Ont., product of late. He played four times before Christmas on the new wrap-around schedule and then teamed with Brad Fritsch to represent Canada in the World Cup in Australia in late November. There was a little time spent at the TaylorMade test centre dialing in his new gear as well as some family time back in the snow in Ontario. And he made the trek to Ann Arbor, Mich., to watch his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs play the Detroit Red Wings outdoors at the Big House. But shortly after, it was back to work. Hearn enjoyed his best year as a professional in 2013, earning more than $1.1 million. The highlight of his season came at the John Deere Classic where he lost in a playoff. That performance didnt surprise him in any way; he always believed he had the talent to play at that level. And it provided a taste of what hed like to experience more often. "Thats what Im trying to accomplish each and every week," he said. "You just want to put yourself in that position as much as you can." Rather than being known as a long driver or a pure ball-striker or a great putter, Hearns strength has always been his consistency with every club in his bag, his all-around game. Its something hes been focused on in the early part of this season. "My stats are not that great but if I can just improve the numbers a little bit Ill be happy," said Hearn, who will continue to use his long putter this season. "It really just boils down to being competitive. Im always trying to improve." Hearn has always been an ardent flag-waver and senses an up-tick in the play of Canadian professionals on various tours. He thinks some of that is awareness caused by his best friend out on tour. "I think Canadians are getting highlighted and inspired thanks to how well Graham [DeLaet] is playing," he stated. "Its fun to watch him play these days. It doesnt seem to matter what he does on Thursday and Friday, he just finds a way to get into contention on the weekend." For Canadian golf, Hearn said, that builds momentum. Its something thats been missing for a while, since the days Mike Weir was seemingly in the hunt to win every week. "When Mike was in his prime, I dont think people realized how good he was," Hearn stated. "It wasnt just the Masters win, it was major after major, week after week, he was in contention. "That definitely inspired me and I think thats happening again. We have a lot of good players right now." For the next couple of weeks, Hearn will be in the cheering section, watching Canadas athletes at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Obviously hockey will be at the forefront of his viewing schedule but he also said hell follow almost any sport and is amazed at such endeavours as biathlon. "It will be disappointing being in the U.S., though," he laughed. "Ill have to watch mostly U.S. athletes." If his play continues to improve, two years from Hearn might be representing Canada at the Olympics in Rio rather than watching from a distance. Ali Marpet Jersey . CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Lucas Vazquez Jersey . -- Tajh Boyd sent Sammy Watkins out wide to the right, and saw freshman Tim Harris sliding over in man-to-man coverage. Clemson faced a third-and-15 from its 4 yard-line, a situation that usually calls for a more conservative play call, but Boyd saw the home run potential of the matchup and went for it. Moments later, Watkins was easing into the end zone after a 96-yard touchdown catch that gave the ninth-ranked Tigers a 42-7 lead against Virginia, and Boyd and Watkins were done for the night in what became a 59-10 victory on Saturday. "When theyre out there," Boyd said of Watkins and fellow speedy receiver Martavius Bryant, "youve just got to throw your arm out, honestly, and theyll run and go get it." The Tigers did plenty of that in what Boyd and coach Dabo Swinney called their most complete performance of the season. It came two weeks after their worst, a 51-14 loss to No. 3 Florida State, and marked the start of a big finish, Boyd said. "November is when we want to play our best football," Boyd said. "Hopefully we put a stamp on it today and were just going to try to take off from here." The Hampton, Va., native played one half and one series, and became the Atlantic Coast Conferences career leader in touchdown-making with a 33-yard pass to Watkins to start the scoring for the Tigers (8-1, 6-1 ACC). It broke a tie at 112 TDs with North Carolina States Philip Rivers. Boyd later added TD throws of 10 yards to Roderick McDowell and the 96 yarder, the longest completion of his career, and the longest reception of Watkins career. Boyd also scored on a 1-yard run. "Tremendous performance by that young man," Swinney said. Virginia (2-7, 0-5) lost its sixth in a row and 15th in its last 19 tries. It also suffered its second 59-10 loss at home this season, having lost by the same score against No. 2 Oregon in the second week of the season. "We have no choice but to keep our confidence up," linebacker Henry Coley said after the Cavaliers were also eliminated from bowl contention for the second season in a row. "There are still three more games to play." Boyd finished 24 of 29 for 377 yards. Hes now been in on 116 career touchdowns, with 93 through the air and 23 running. Hes also 4-0 against teams from his home state, having won three prior meetings against Virginia Tech. Watkins caught eight passes for 169 yards and two scores. It was his sixth 100-yard game this season. The Tigers wasted little time asserting their dominance, taking the opening kickoff and driving 75 yards in six plays and taking just 1:27 off the clock. Boyd hit Watkins three times, the last for 33 yards. Virginia pulled even after an exchange of punts, Watford running it in from the 6 to cap a 54-yard drive, but the Tigers responded immediately with another 6-play, 75-yard march to C.J. Davidsons 2-yard run. Boyd hit Roderick McDowell for 27 yards on a third-and-4 play and hit Bryant for 37 yards on the next play. Anthony Harris sixth interception of the season ended a Tigers drive deep in Virginia territory, and Clemson punted twice and was stopped on fourth down on its next three possessions, but the Cavaliers could do nothing offensively. When Watford overthrew Darius Jennings late in the half and Jayron Kearse intercepted and returned it 37 yards to the Virginia 33, the Tigers began a late scoring frenzy. Boyds screen pass to McDowell made it 21-7, and when Kearse stripped the ball from Khalek Shepherd on the ensuing series, DeShawn Williams recovered at midfield. Five plays later, McDowell ran into the line on third-and-1, broke quickly into the clear and went 25 yards for a touchdown that made it 28-7. Boyd followed another three-and-out for Virginia by carving the defence up in a crisp eight-play, 86-yard drive. He was 6 for 6 on the drive for 84 yards, then ran it the final yard 0:13 before halftime. "Probably our best drive of the year," Boyd said, "just because we were just out there playing, not really thinking." Filipe Luis Atletico Madrid Jersey . MILWAUKEE -- For Ryan Braun, winning an appeal of a 50-game suspension was only his first step toward redemption. Now the Milwaukee Brewers slugger is out to show fans that he can shake off what became a tumultuous off-season after a failed drug test that tarnished his reputation, and regain the form that made him the NLs MVP last season. Speaking Friday before the Brewers opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, Braun said hes looking forward to the chance to prove he can handle what transpired. "Of course," Braun said. "Its not so much about proving anybody wrong as it much as it is proving the people who all believed in me and supported me right. So Im definitely excited. Very motivated." Fans gave Braun a rousing ovation in pregame introductions and were even louder during his first few trips to the plate, cheering and chanting "M-V-P!" The support didnt necessarily help him at the plate, as Braun went 0 for 5 -- including a flyout to end the game -- and the Brewers lost 11-5. ""Braun hit a couple balls hard, so you dont discount that," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "He looks like his timing is pretty good. Theyve got guys that are going to hit the ball." After helping power the Brewers to the NL championship series and winning the leagues MVP award, Brauns achievements came under suspicion when ESPN reported that he failed a drug test with a high testosterone level. Braun went on to win his appeal and avoid a 50-game suspension. Then he made his case to the fans upon his arrival in spring training, saying that chain of custody issues with his urine sample cast doubt on the validity of the test. That didnt end the controversy; baseball officials were unhappy with the arbitrators decision, and a urine sample collector issued a statement saying he followed proper protocols and that there was no evidence of tampering. Braun also has hinted that theres more to the story than hes letting on, refusing to share those details. And Braun struggled for much of spring training. But with the regular season set to start, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke likes what he has seen and heard from Brauun.Toni Kroos Real Madrid Jersey. "Right now, hes in a really good place," Roenicke said. "First couple weeks of spring? A little difficult. Hes back to the guy he was, I saw last year. Hes very confident. He knows he had a tough off-season mentally, and I think hes in a place right now where his focus is on having another repeat year and even better -- which is hard to believe, but thats the way he talks. And its hard to say that he wouldnt." But Roenicke acknowledged that Braun is likely to face adversity from opposing fans when he goes on the road. "I think therell be challenges," Roenicke said. "I think its just not going to be comfortable going to some different places. But I dont think with his personality, I dont think thats going to affect the way that he goes about his job. It may not be quite as fun and relaxing as he usually is and when he goes to different cities and opposing (fans) that for whatever reason are going to get on him. What Ive seen, especially the last couple weeks, theres not any effects of what I thought ... could be there mentally with him. And so he really is in a good place now." Braun has the support of Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio. "Ill be giving him a standing ovation," Attanasio said before the game. "I hope others will stand and cheer for him. Its obviously huge for our club. Ryan does so many things well. Obviously, we really didnt want to talk about it, but it would have been a big loss to have him out for 50 games." Now that hes able to play a full season, Braun thinks the Brewers can contend again. Even without Prince Fielder, who signed a free agent deal with Detroit in the off-season, Braun said this years team is the best he has been a part of. "As an opposing pitcher, when you look at a lineup and you see the name Prince Fielder, its intimidating," Braun said. "You know thats a guy that can hit a home run at any point, that alters the way you approach the hitters before him and the hitters after him. So you dont replace him with a single guy, but I think collectively, as a unit, were honestly better than we were last year."
