WASHINGTON -- Juan Lagares was ready to contribute when given the opportunity. Dell Curry Hornets Jersey . "I know I can play. Thats what I do. Thats what Im here for," Lagares said after driving in three runs with a homer and a single and robbing Washingtons Jayson Werth of a home run in New Yorks 5-2 win on Saturday. Lagares came in 5 for 27 in his past 11 games, but he provided a jolt for the struggling Mets. He singled in a run during a three-run first and homered with one on and one out in the third to give New York a 5-0 lead. Hes batting .304 for the season. "Well, hell play tomorrow," Mets manager Terry Collins said to laughter following the game. "He had a good game. Thats great. Thats why we put him in there today," Collins added. "Gios not easy to hit, but hes got a (better) chance to have some success against lefties than he has been against righties, so I let him in there." The Mets outfielder took a homer away from Werth with a leaping catch against the wall in centre. "Im not surprised by anything he does defensively, not a thing," said Collins, who also praised Lagares for his offensive work this week with assistant hitting coach Luis Natera. "I try to be positive, try to do my work in the cage and try to be ready for the opportunity," Lagares said. "Thats the key, be positive and keep working." Bartolo Colon (3-5) allowed two runs and five hits over eight innings as New York snapped a three-game losing streak and won for the first time in 10 tries against Washington. Rookie Eric Campbell drove in two runs and had his first two-hit game, and Daniel Murphy added two hits as well for New York. Colon, who turns 41 next week, came in 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA (17 runs in 17 1-3 innings) in three starts this month -- all on the road. On Saturday, he retired the last 11 hitters he faced. "He made big pitches, he pitched ahead," Collins said. "You know, you looked up and you saw he had 70 pitches, you kind of figured hes on his game." Jenrry Mejia pitched the ninth for his first career save. Ian Desmond had two hits, including a two-run homer, for Washington. Gio Gonzalez (3-4) took the loss, suffering his second straight poor start. Coming off a 9-1 loss at Oakland in which he allowed seven earned runs in five plus innings, he lasted just three innings Saturday. "Arm slot wasnt where I wanted it to be. Up in the strike zone the entire time, falling behind on everyone. You can see it just wasnt a good game at all," Gonzalez said after allowing five earned runs and seven hits. The Mets scored one more run in the first inning Saturday than they had in the previous 27 combined. With one out, Murphy lined a single to centre and David Wright followed with an infield hit between first base and the mound. After Chris Young walked, Campbell sent a single to centre to score Murphy and Wright. Lagares, in the starting lineup for the first time since Tuesday, blooped a single to right, scoring Young with the third run. It marked the 10th time this season that Washington had allowed three or more runs in the first inning. In the third, Campbell singled with one out and Lagares drove a 3-2 fastball into centre. Desmonds homer in the fourth pulled the Nationals within 5-2. Werths leaping catch at the wall with two outs in the ninth preserved Friday nights 5-2 Washington win. He was the victim on Saturday, however, when he appeared to pull the Nationals within 5-3 with a drive to centre to open the sixth, but Lagares raced to the wall, leaped and reached back to grab the drive. "I know he hit it good," Lagares said. "I just go like I always go, hard, and try to make the catch." NOTES: Craig Stammen pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the Nationals. ... BALTIMORE -- A reversed call got the uprising started. Then came a walk after the Detroit Tigers were down to their last strike. That forced Tommy Hunter to go up against Miguel Cabrera, perhaps the last person a struggling closer wants to face with the outcome hanging in the balance. Cabrera hit a hanging curveball over the centre-field wall for a three-run homer, and the Tigers rallied past the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 on Tuesday night. After being held scoreless on three hits over the first eight innings, the Tigers improved to 1-12 when trailing after eight innings. "You never know in baseball," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said. "When the top of our order swings the bat, we can score some runs quickly." Hunter held a 1-0 lead before giving up a leadoff single to Alex Avila. Pinch-runner Rajai Davis was called out trying to steal, but Ausmus challenged the call and after looking at the replay, umpires called Davis safe at second. "The instant replay was probably the turning point, I guess," Ausmus said. Hunter (1-1) got two straight outs before working the count on Torii Hunter to 1-2. The at-bat ended in a walk. "You cant let arguably one of the best hitters in the game come to the plate," Tommy Hunter said. "Youve got to throw a strike right there and I missed." Two pitches later, Cabrera connected. "Its a chance that we win or were going to lose," Cabrera said. "You dont have to think too much of it. Youve got to go out there and try and see what happens." Victor Martinez followed Cabreras sixth home run with a shot to right that landed on Eutaw Street beyond the scoreboard in right field. Justin Miller (1-1) pitched one inning to earn his first big league win and Joe Nathan got three outs for his ninth save. Nathan has seven saves and a 0.00 ERA in his last eight outings. Adam Jones hit a first-inning homer for the Orioles, who have dropped three in a row following a five-game winning streak. Jones has five home runs, four in the last seven games. Baltimore starter Ubaldo Jimenez gave up three hits, walked two and struck out seven in seven innings. After going 0-4 with a 6.59 ERA in April, the right-hander is 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA in May. Jimenez, who signed a four-year, $50 milllion contract as a free agent in February, permitted only one runner past first base. Jean Segura Jersey. All three hits against him were singles, and on each occasion the runner was erased trying to steal. Darren ODay worked a perfect eighth, but Hunter couldnt preserve the lead. He left the mound to jeers from fans who minutes earlier were standing in anticipation of the final out. Hunter has 11 saves, but his job as closer could be in jeopardy. "Im not going to get in to handicapping, this means that and that means this," manager Buck Showalter said. "Well constantly see what gives us the best option to pitch nine innings, and be competitive and continue to be in first place. And thats what well do." Said Hunter: "Its my job today. Well see." Detroit starter Drew Smyly allowed five hits over six innings and matched a season high with seven strikeouts. In his previous three outings against the Orioles, all in relief, Smyly gave up two hits and struck out eight in eight shutout innings. Detroit trailed 1-0 in the seventh when Hunter led off with a single and Cabrera walked. After Jimenez bounced a curveball, rookie catcher Caleb Joseph quickly found the handle on the loose ball and threw out Hunter trying to take third. Martinez bounced into a 4-6-3 double play. Baltimore catchers were 4 for 29 in throwing out would-be stealers before Joseph went 3 for 4. The rookie also got his first major league hit, a fourth-inning single. NOTES: RHP Kevin Gausman will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to start Wednesday for the Orioles. The move was designed to give starters Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez an extra day of rest. Gonzalez will be available in the bullpen for Wednesdays game. Baltimore also announced it optioned RHP Preston Guilmet to Norfolk after the game. Guilmet made two scoreless appearances totalling 1 2/3 innings after being recalled before Mondays game. ... Ausmus said RHP Anibal Sanchez (finger laceration) will come off the DL to start Sunday against Boston. ... Detroits Rick Porcello, who left Mondays game with a tightness in his side, remains on schedule for his next start Saturday. ... TORONTO - Whatever momentum they built up before the 18-day Olympic break is suddenly gone. cheap jerseys cc . Three straight losses have quieted the Maple Leafs - winners of 11 of 14 before the stoppage - who dropped a 2-1 decision to Columbus at the ACC on Monday night, their third loss in as many games to the Blue Jackets this season. Alongside overtime defeats in Long Island and Montreal, the interim trends in Toronto are subtly veering in the wrong direction, though they still have ownership of the first wild card position in the East. "The three losses hurt because we had points available to us on the road," head coach Randy Carlyle said, referring to overtime defeats against the Islanders and Canadiens. "Thats the hard part is when you lose two overtime games on the road and we had a one-goal lead in both games. That kicks you. That doesnt feel very good." The most recent case saw his team start strong, stall midway through and eventually push back with a charge that was ultimately too late. "I think part of it is somewhat of an Olympic hangover," said James Reimer, making a rare start in place of Jonathan Bernier. "The last three games its been anyones game, its been a one-goal game and two of them have gone into overtime. I think were right there; were just missing it by a little bit. All three games couldve been Ws for us so I dont think its anything to worry about." The Leafs started the evening strongly with a flurry of opportunities and pair of power-plays, but failed to get anything beyond the reach of Sergei Bobrovsky, nor the multiple bodies that stood at his defence. Phil Kessel snuck one shot through the pads, but it spun just above the goal-line before Bobrovsky rushed it to cover. The home foot came off the gas in the middle period with Columbus scoring twice in less than three minutes. The Leafs turned pucks over, lost battles and wandered around hopelessly in the defensive zone. They failed to even record a shot before Dalton Prout scored the games first goal. Cody Franson labeled it a "mediocre" 20 minutes. "We tried to get cute with the puck and turned it over too many times," he said. "When you play a team that has that type of forechecking style and transition ability its not what you want to do ideally." "I think that was more of a mental lapse than anything because we just started wandering around," Carlyle said. "For the first period we had lots of life, we were on our toes and jumping to pucks and we were winning our battles. In the second we just started to stall in the neutral ice." A late third period rally yielded a goal from Mason Raymond, but nothing more as the Blue Jackets swept the season series from their new Eastern Conference counterpart, outscoring them 13-3 in the process. The Toronto dressing room was hardly in a state of panic afterward. Though dismayed with their performance against a mediocre Islanders squad last week, they were generally pleased with their effort in Montreal over the weekend - outside of penalty trouble and another lost third period lead - and pointed to the loss to Columbus as an incomplete effort, but not one that should cause alarm. They cant hide from points left on the table, however, especially against those theyre either chasing (Canadiens) or those chasing them (Blue Jackets) and a difficult schedule ahead. Just behind the Leafs (72 points) in the standings are the likes of Detroit (68), Washington (68) and these very Blue Jackets (67), all with games in hand and opportunity to narrow the gap further. The alarm should not be sounded with three straight losses, but some degree of caution should be taken by those wearing the blue and white. "Were fine," said Joffrey Lupul afterward. "Were certainly not losing perspective, but were not happy about losing two points to a team below us in the standings." Five Points 1. Rare Start James Reimer hadnt made a start for the Leafs since Jan. 25, a long stretch of 37 days that saw Jonathan Bernier gripping tight on the starting job right into the 18-day Olympic break. "Besides an injury I dont know if Ive ever had this much time in between starts," Reimer said. In spite of the long layoff, the 25-year-old looked sharp, stopping 31 of the 33 shots peppered by Columbus, including a Nick Foligno breakaway in the opening five minutes. "There was a little rust there," said Reimer, "but honestly I felt pretty good. I felt like I battled as hard as I could and tried to fight to see the puck and its unfortunate we came up a little short tonight." The two that passed could hardly be pinned his way. The first from Prout sailed through a maze of traffic from the point, the latter from Artem Anisimov coming by way of a laser back-door point pass from Nikita Nikitin. "I dont think you can point to the goaltending as a deficiency, thats for sure," said Carlyle. "He did his part to give us a chance." 2. Rare Night off the Scoresheet Kessel missed his 34th goal of the year by mere inches. The 26-year-old had a rare night off the scoresheet, finishing with two shots in just over 23 minutes of ice. It was just the third time in the past 18 games that the scorching Kessel failed to register a point. Indicative of his value, the Leafs dropped to 4-17-2 this season on such nights, a rarity these days for sure. 3. Power-play Life Unhappy with the state of his clubs special teams, Carlyle directed that the near-entirety of Sundays practice be spent on the matter. Much of the focus a day before the game against Columbus centered on a power-play that was suddenly missing much of its pep. "We stood around," he said of the man advantage in losses to New York and Montreal. "And other teams have made adjustments to our break-out and we havent reacted to what we normally would do in situations. Obviously other coaches in the league do pre-scout. They do work to devise plans against what you do." Though they failed to score in two attempts on this night - now 0-13 in the past six games - they did manage some signs of life, including a good opportunity for Morgan Rielly in the first frame. "At least today our power-play created some momentum for us whereas in the past couple games it seemed like itd been a bit of a momentum killer," said Lupul. The Leafs own the leagues fifth-best power-play this season with much of that success coming on home ice – they sit second in the NHL at 26.5 per cent. Considering their ineffectiveness on the penalty kill its an area theyll want to right soon. 4. Trade Deadline Dave Nonis made a minor move at the trade deadline last season, adding Ryan OByrne from Colorado for a fourth round draft pick. The Leafs general manager and his management team have essentially shunned the idea of adding another such rental this time around. Unlike in years past theres not much in the way of frenzy surrounding the club heading into the Mar. 5 deadline, but in Carlyles eyes - traded himself once at the deadline - it remains a distraction for players. "The trade deadlines always a factor in any hockey players life," said Carlyle, traded to Winnipeg from Pittsburgh for a first round pick on Mar. 5th, 1984. "Having played for a number of years and lived and died in one. It was one of those situations that you remember. Its not a lot of fun being a player at this time of year. In todays Twitter world and blogging and that, theres a lot more rumours floating around so its obviously a lot more to it than when I was moved in 84. I dont think they had Twitter then did they?" 5. Rare Home Ice Defeat Before falling Monday to the Blue Jackets the Leafs hadnt lost in Toronto since Jan. 7, a 5-3 defeat that night to the pesky New York Islanders. They had reeled off seven consecutive wins at home for the first time since the 2006-07 season, Stats-Pack 13-3 - Goal differential between Leafs and Blue Jackets this season, favouring Columbus. 4-17-2 - Leafs record this season when Phil Kessel fails to record a point. 0-13 - Toronto power-play in the past six games. 24:46 - Ice-time for James van Riemsdyk versus Columbus, leading the team. 21-11-1 - Leafs record at home this season. 2:54 - Amount of time it took the Blue Jackets to score twice in the second period on Monday. 37 - Days between starts for James Reimer. Workman can play until the appeal process is complete, and was expected to make his scheduled start Wednesday night against the Cleveland Indians. The penalty, which also included a fine, was announced by MLB Senior Vice-President Joe Garagiola Jr. Workmans high-and-tight pitch came after the teams had been warned about further trouble. "That was ascertained in the video. Thus, I think thats appropriate," Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Tuesday nights game at Miami. Red Sox first baseman Mike Carp was hit on the arm Friday by a fourth-inning pitch from Tampa Bay ace David Price, who also plunked slugger David Ortiz on the hip in the first inning -- triggering umpires to issue warnings to both teams. The fact Workman was disciplined and Price wasnt did not sit well with the Red Sox and Ortiz in particular, who again criticized the Rays ace prior to Tuesdays game against the Indians. "I dont think what theyre doing is fair," Ortiz said. "I think the rules should be for everybody. We didnt start this up. I didnt hit nobody. Workman didnt hit anybody in the first inning. He did." Ortiz was critical of Price following that game and didnt back down from those comments Tuesday when news of Workmans suspension reached Bostons clubhouse. "Im not going to get hit again," Ortiz said. cheap nfl jerseys 2015. "Not by him. He did it on purpose. He punked me and thats very disrespectful. Im a grown man. Ive been around the league for a long time and I know how to take care of business on my own." Said Maddon: "Papi and I have had a pretty good relationship in the past. Sometimes commentary oversteps and overreaches." "Id like to believe if he had more of an opportunity to think about it, he would respond differently. For us, its a dead issue. I want us to move it along and just play baseball," he said. Red Sox manager John Farrell, who was ejected from Fridays game, took a diplomatic approach. "All you can do is put forth your best efforts to state a case that we were directly involved with, and whats done is done," he said. "Theres an appeal thats going to take place. I know we presented our case in response to the discussions and what was being talked about with MLB." After being hit Carp glared out at the mound, shouting and pointing at Price, but was restrained by Rays catcher Jose Molina as players from both teams charged out of the dugouts and bullpens. There was some pushing and shoving, but no punches were thrown. Workman threw a high pitch in the sixth behind Longoria, who was visibly upset. Longoria and Boston catcher A.J. Pierzynski had a conversation at home plate, and a handful of players from both dugouts ventured a few steps onto the field, but no trouble ensued. Workman was ejected. Cheap Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Cheap JerseysCheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys ' ' '
ARLINGTON, Texas - So much for Andrew Luck and the AFC South champion Indianapolis Colts building some momentum for the playoffs. Matthew Dellavedova Jersey .At least they avoided their first shutout in 21 years, long after Luck took his last snap Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.Tony Romo threw four touchdowns, one immediately after Dewey McDonald flubbed a perfectly thrown pass on a fake punt by the Colts, and Dallas clinched its first NFC East title in five seasons with a 42-7 victory. We will find a way to get these things fixed. If we play the way we did tonight, we cant expect to do anything down the road, coach Chuck Pagano said. Its the National Football League. Its a tough business. Its not for everybody. Thats why we dont get discouraged. Disappointed, yeah, but discouraged? Never.Indianapolis (10-5), held to a season low in points and yards for the second week in a row, has one game left to get back on track before going straight into the playoffs without a first-round bye.Im thinking about Tennessee first, Luck said. Weve got to fix this game and focus on Tennessee, and then we can worry about the playoffs.Things went awry in a hurry for Indianapolis, with Dallas opening the game with a 15-play touchdown drive that took nearly 8 1/2 minutes and the Colts failing to get a first down on three rushing plays. When punter Pat McAfee saw McDonald uncovered on the outside, he threw a lofting pass. McDonald just flat out missed what would have been an easy first down.Romo threw his own perfect pass on the very next play, a 19-yard touchdown to Dez Bryant to give Dallas (11-4) a 14-0 lead.A lot of these are self-inflicted wounds, said safety Mike Adams, who was then asked if the Colts are ready for the playoffs. We have no choice but to be ready. After this performance, its hard to say. ... The most dangerous team going into the tournament is the wounded team, and thats us right now. After Romo surpassed Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman as the Cowboys career passing leader with a 25-yard TD to Jason Witten for a 35-0 lead with 4:41 left in the third quarter, Luck gave way to backup Matt Hasselbeck. The Colts, with only 1 yard rushing among their 229 total yards, finally scored on Hasselbecks 1-yard TD pass to Zurlon Tipton after a pass interference call in the end zone wiped out a Dallas interception on a fourth-and-10 play.Hasselbeck, who finished 15 for 21 for 126 yards, appeared to have another touchdown. But tight end Jack Doyle — almost fittingly — dropped the ball in the end zone with 22 seconds left. There were other drops, and Luck (15 of 22 for 109 yards) had interceptions just before and right after halftime. But the tone was set on that failed fake in the first quarter.I took my eyes off of it for just a split second, said McDonald, whose flub came right in front of the Colts bench.Weve been practicing that play for a long, long time and executed extremely well during practice,, Pagano said. They gave us an opportunity for that play to be there, and we didnt execute it.With a home playoff game already in hand, Indianapolis sat receiver T.Y. Hilton (groin injury) and right tackle Gosder Cherilus.NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray played with a broken left hand, but the Cowboys didnt need much from him. He finished with 58 yards, with a 1-yard score.Romo, in his eighth full season, was 18 for 20 for 218 yards to put him at 32,971 for his career, 29 more than Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl winner. For us to get the W and Tony to break the record, thats a great accomplishment, Bryant said. Hes a warrior. Today he was on fire. He was on fire.Notes: By avoiding the shutout, Indianapolis has scored in 336 consecutive games since a 38-0 loss at New England on Dec. 26, 1993. Nikolaj Ehlers had the other two goals for the Mooseheads (9-6-0), who led 3-1 after the first period. Anthony Richard and Guillaume Gelinas replied for the Foreurs (7-6-0).ST. LOUIS - David Ortiz deserves a lot of love for his performance in the Red Soxs 4-2, World Series-tying victory on Sunday night at Busch Stadium. Hell get it here; a little later on. In the immediate, the focus will be on Jonny Gomes and an unsung hero, Felix Doubront. The Red Sox are two wins away from the franchises third world championship in 10 seasons. This, despite an offensive output offensive to the sensibilities. Boston is hitting a collective .223 in the playoffs. After a solid start against the Rays (38-133 - .286), the Red Sox have been stifled by the Tigers (39-193 - .202) and the Cardinals (24-127 - .189) through four games. There is one offensive area in which the Red Sox are thriving: the timely, usually multi-run home run. This is where Gomes comes in. His three-run, sixth inning blast off Cardinals reliever Seth Maness broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Red Sox the 4-2 lead they wouldnt relinquish. The home run was Gomes first of the postseason. It was Bostons fourth hit of the game. The Sox would finish the night with a total of six hits. Gomes joins David Ortiz (Game 2, ALCS, game-tying grand slam,) Mike Napoli (Game 3, ALCS, solo home run) and Shane Victorino (Game 6, ALCS, go-ahead grand slam) among Red Sox players with big home runs on otherwise dry offensive nights this fall. Funny thing, Gomes wasnt supposed to start. He was a late addition to the starting lineup when Victorino went down with lower-back pain. "I was notified about halfway through batting practice," said Gomes. "Like I said earlier, its all I fought for this year; just the opportunity. So when my number is called, Im stepping up. Im not dodging any situation. Obviously a little different pregame than playing and not playing so I kind of got changed real quick." Doubront, a 26-year-old left-hander who won 11 games for a second-straight regular season, authored 2 2/3 innings of one run, one hit ball in relief of Clay Buchholz, who was removed for a pinch hitter in the fifth. To be clear, Doubront was dominant. He exited in the seventh after allowing a two out double and was tagged with a run when Craig Breslow, whos had a bad series, coughed up a single to the first hitter he faced. Kevin Love Autographed Jersey. Doubront threw 32 pitches, all the more impressive considering hed thrown two scoreless innings on 25 pitches the night before. Remember, hes accustomed to starting. Pitch, rest and prepare for four days and then pitch again. The routine is different and requires mental and physical adjustments. His performance gave Gomes the opportunity to be the offensive hero. "I was pretty much focused," said Doubront. "And when I got my time, when I got that opportunity to go up there and do my job - you know, as a reliever - now I was feeling pretty good. And like I say, focus and try to get serious and give my teammates the opportunity to score more runs and win the game." Meantime, Ortiz, after struggling to just two hits in the ALCS (yes, one of them was that important grand slam) is suddenly red hot and should Boston win the series, would cement his status as one of the greatest Red Sox of all time. Ortiz had three hits and a walk in four plate appearances and scored two runs. Hes 8-12 (.667) and has drawn four walks in the World Series. In 16 plate appearances, hes been on base 12 times. He was seen in the dugout giving a rah-rah speech to teammates before the start of the sixth inning, at the time the game was tied 1-1, and while its foolish to believe the talk propelled Gomes home run ball over the fence, it offered insight into his willingness to allow his mouth, along with his play, to do the talking. "Through five innings we got two hits and hes got both of them," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "His career states what hes done. Hes a tremendous hitter at any point in time in the year. Playing first base has certainly not affected it in any way. Hell be back in there (Monday) at first." With the victory, the Red Sox assured this series returns to Fenway Park and perhaps more importantly, returns to American League rules. ATLANTA -- The New York Yankees bolstered their rotation on Sunday by acquiring veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy from Arizona. Roberto Clemente Pirates Jersey. The Diamondbacks also are sending New York cash in Sundays deal for left-hander Vidal Nuno. The trade was announced by the Yankees. The move comes after Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia had a setback with a degenerative cartilage problem in his right knee. New York was unable to work out a trade this week for the Cubs Jeff Samardzija, who instead was dealt to Oakland. McCarthy, who turns 31 on Monday, was 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA with Arizona this season. In nine seasons with the White Sox, Rangers, As and Diamondbacks, McCarthy is 45-60 with a 4.21 ERA. McCarthy said he was informed of the deal after he reported for Sundays game against the Braves. He will leave the last-place Diamondbacks and join a playoff race with New York. "Its something Im really excited about," McCarthy said. McCarthy said he is sad to be leaving Arizona, but added the move to New York is special. "Its still the Yankees, no matter what," McCarthy said. "If you dont know baseball, you know the Yankees." McCarthy planned to fly from Atlanta to meet the Yankees in Cleveland, where they open a series on Monday. Nuno, 26, was 2-5 with a 5.42 ERA in 17 games, including 14 starts, with the Yankees. Nuno was hurt by allowing 15 homers -- including 13 at home -- in 78 innings this season. McCarthy, a groundball pitcher, may be better suited for Yankee Stadium. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman sought an upgrade to the rotation for weeks. Sabathia is out indefinitely and the Yankees also lost Ivan Nova to Tommy John surgery. The Diamondbacks have made two trades in as many days. On Saturday, Arizona acquired two minor leaguers, outfielder Zach Borenstein and right-hander Joey Krehbiel, from the Los Angeles Angels for left-hander Joe Thatcher and outfielder Tony Campana. More moves may be coming for Arizona. "Were going to start retooling, it looks like," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said Sunday. Gibson called the approach "a different mindset." Gibson said Nuno will make his debut with Arizona on Tuesday against Miami. Nuno had been scheduled to start for the Yankees on Monday, and Gibson said he wanted to give the young left-hander an extra day to adjust to his new team. Jung-ho Kang Jersey . -- New York Yankees newcomer Masahiro Tanaka has finished up his first throwing session with the team. Tony Watson Jersey . As one AL East rival exits the Bronx, another enters a new series at Yankee Stadium. Adidas NEO Lite Racer Shoes Mens/Womens Reddish Orange/Core Black . This time the Tampa Bay Rays take a turn against the New York Yankees Monday in the opener of a three-game set. The Yankees are 6-6 in a stretch of 15 consecutive games against division opponents and lost their third straight series this weekend versus the despised Boston Red Sox. You can watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. Boston needed a ninth-inning home run to beat the Yankees on Saturday, then closed the series with Sunday nights 8-5 victory. Yankees starter Chase Whitley struggled to the tune of five runs and eight hits in four innings for New York, losers in six of the past eight games. Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran each hit solo homers in defeat. "I always believe that when you play against teams that are in your division, those are series that youve got to win," said Beltran, who has been dealing with soreness in his forearm and had three hits. "We missed this one." Teixeira has homered in four of his last eight games and has hit safely in 14 of the previous 17 contests. New York is still just two games off the AL East lead. David Phelps tries to pitch the Yankees back to respectability when he toes the rubber Monday night. Phelps is 2-0 in his last three starts and did not figure into the decision of a 7-6 loss at Toronto last Tuesday, as he permitted six runs and eight hits in five innings. Phelps has allowed 15 runs in his last four starts and is 3-4 with a 4.35 earned run average this season. The right-hander has faced Tampa Bay eight times (4 starts) in his career and is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA. Tampa Bay has been playing better baseball of late, but the club is still last in the division at 10 games off the pace. The Rays opened an 11-game road trip by taking three of four games against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, and won the series with Sundays 12-7 offensive outburst. Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo home run and Logan Forsythe added a two-run shot during a seven-run seventh inning for the Rays, who have won six of their last nine games. Matt Joyce had a big game by going 5-for-6 with two homers, three runs scored and four RBI. Joyce matched a Rays single-game record with five hits and 12 total bases. His shot in the third inning ended a drought of 124 at-bats without a homer. "You really dont have too many days like that," Joyce said. "Its nice to have one of those days and enjoy it." Ben Zobrist also went deep and recorded three hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the win. Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb picked up the win and was reached for four runs (3 earned) in five innings. The Rays have won five of their last seven road games and will also visit Detroit for four games on this road trip. They are 16-24 as the guest. Tampa Bay has scored at least five runs in 12 of the last 18 games, going 11-7 in that stretch. Chris Archer hopes to get some more of that run support when he takes the mound in the Bronx. The Rays have scored exactly five runs in each of Archers last two starts, including a 6-5 loss to Pittsburgh last Tuesday. Archer fell to 1-3 in his last four decisions after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in seven innings of work. Archer, who is 4-5 with a 3.29 ERA and has thrown six-plus innings six times in the past seven appearances, will put his unblemished mark against the Yankees on the line Monday. He has won all four of his starts in this series and has a 1.26 ERA across 28 2/3 innings. The Rays have won four of seven meetings with the Yankees this season and took two of three matchups in the Bronx from May 2-4. Adidas Zx 850 Sale . -- Pekka Rinne celebrated his 29th birthday by signing the richest contract in Nashvilles history. Adidas Neo Se Daily Vulc Grey . Woodson led the Knicks to an 18-6 record and a first-round playoff loss to Miami as interim coach after replacing Mike DAntoni on March 14. The Knicks victory in Game 4 of the series ended an NBA-record, 13-game post-season losing streak that dated to 2001. Top players Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler all endorsed Woodsons return and will get their wish, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract is not finished yet. The New York Post reported Tuesday that the sides were committed to getting the deal done before the Memorial Day weekend. Woodson will become a full-time NBA head coach again for the first time since a six-year run in Atlanta ended in 2010. The Hawks improved their win total in each seaason, finishing 53-29 in 2009-10, but Woodson wasnt retained after they were swept in the conference semifinals for the second straight year. Jimmy Butler Black Jersey. He sat out a season before joining DAntonis staff as an assistant last summer. DAntoni resigned when the Knicks were 18-24 and in danger of missing the playoffs. Woodson won his first five games, quickly getting the Knicks back into the race. Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan said in announcing DAntonis departure that the coaching position would be evaluated after the season. Woodson became an obvious choice to return by then, particularly after the Knicks removed the interim tag from general manager Glen Grunwald, his former college teammate at Indiana, late in the regular season. Woodson, a first-round draft pick of the Knicks in 1980, has a career 224-292 record as an NBA coach. NEW YORK -- Anyone who thought Houston would be a Yankee Stadium pushover hasnt been paying attention to Chris Carter at the plate. Jesus Gamez Jersey . After striking out four straight times, Carter snapped a ninth-inning tie with a colossal three-run homer Tuesday night that extended his second-half power surge and sent the Astros to a 7-4 victory over the New York Yankees. "I was just trying to hit it and put it in play. My first four at-bats, I didnt do anything," Carter said with a smile. "I went up there in the last at-bat and just tried to forget about it and regroup." Marwin Gonzalez knocked in two runs with a pinch-hit single, and the fourth-place Astros (53-73) won for the third time in four meetings with the Yankees this year. Despite a $154 million difference in opening-day payroll, Houston took two of three at home against New York to begin the season. "Shows us that were on the right track," winning pitcher Josh Fields said. "Were playing a lot better baseball than last year." Brian McCann hit a two-run homer, and Martin Prado had three hits for the Yankees, who dropped the opener of a six-game homestand against two teams with losing records. New York fell four games out of a playoff spot. "We were able to come back and tie the game up and we let it slip away," manager Joe Girardi said. David Robertson (1-4) walked consecutive batters and threw seven straight balls before Carter launched a 3-0 pitch into the raised concrete bleachers in left field for his 30th home run. "I tried to make a good pitch down and away. Instead, I threw it right into his bat path, and he put it 30 rows deep," Robertson said. "I struggled out there tonight and I blew it for our team." Carter, the reigning AL player of the week, is batting .340 with eight homers and 19 RBIs in his past 13 games. He leads the majors with 17 home runs and 42 RBIs since July 1. "It was like somebody flipped a light switch," Fields said. Fields (3-6) tossed a scoreless eighth on his 29th birthday. With the infield in, Jacoby Ellsbury was thrown out at home on a one-out grounder to shortstop by slumping Carlos Beltran. Chad Qualls worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save. Prado singled in the fourth off starter Brett Oberholtzer before McCann drove an 0-2 pitch into the second deck in right for his 14th homer. Robbie Grossman hit a two-out RBI single in the fifth, and Houston chased Chris Capuano on his 36th birthday during a three-run sixth. Fowler led off with a triple and scored on Jason Castros tying groundout. After consecutive singles, both runners moved up when Jake Marisnicks groundout deflected off reliever Adam Warren. Astros manager Bo Porter pushed the right button, lifting No. 9 batter Gregorio Petit for a left-handed hitter even though Petit had doubled both times up. Gonzalez hit a two-run single that gave Houston a 4-2 lead. It was the first run-scoring hit by a Houston pinch hitter since Jesus Guzman had an RBI single against Texas on May 14. "I didnt think that I was going in that early," Gonzalez said. "Bo told me like 10 minutes before." Prado tied it in the bottom half with a two-run double that ended Oberholtzers night. ON THE GREEN Tiger Woods was on the field during batting practice before heading to the runway behind the Yankees dugout, where the golf star greeted injured New York pitcher Masahiro Tanaka and then Astros outfielder Dexter Fowler. TRAINERS ROOM Astros: Guzman was activated from the disabled list, and LHP Darin Downs was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Aug. 15, with a strained muscle on his right side. Guzman had been sidelined since Aug. 2 because of back spasms. ... OF Alex Presley, sidelined since July 8 with a strained right oblique, joined the team to receive treatment but wont be activated from the DL for a while. Yankees: Tanaka (elbow) plans to throw another bullpen Wednesday. ... Girardi said a decision on whether to use RHP David Phelps (elbow inflammation) as a starter or reliever when he gets back probably will depend on how long hes out. UP NEXT Yankees RHP Michael Pineda (2-2, 1.82 ERA) makes his second start since a long injury layoff in the second game of the series. RHP Scott Feldman (6-9, 4.45) gets the ball for Houston. BAD TIMING Robertson had gone 27 games without giving up a home run since Josh Willingham connected for Minnesota on June 1 at Yankee Stadium. POWER RESTORED Carter became the first Astros player to reach 30 homers in a season since Lance Berkman (34) and Carlos Lee (32) in 2007. Lucas Hernandez Jersey .C. -- Larry Nelson shot his age for a share of the lead in the SAS Championship, while Nick Faldo failed to finish the round in his first regular Champions Tour event. Patrik Carlgren Sweden Jersey . "It feels great (to re-sign with Rochester)," Vitarelli said. "Ive had two great years so far and weve been very successful, so its great to be part of the team again.NEW YORK -- Faster was better for Daisuke Matsuzaka. In a turn-back-the-clock performance, Dice-K allowed two hits over seven innings and the New York Mets got back-to-back homers from Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda to beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Saturday night for a doubleheader split. "I think in general all my pitches are improving," Matsuzaka said through a translator before acknowledging he made an effort to pick up his pace on the mound. "Trying not to give the batter an opportunity to think about whats going on or to analyze the situation." In the opener, Donovan Solano exacted some payback after he was hit by two pitches, launching a home run and making two terrific defensive plays that sent Henderson Alvarez and the Marlins to a 3-0 victory. Matsuzaka (1-3) plunked Placido Polanco twice in the nightcap, but other than that the Japanese right-hander was in complete control en route to his first major league win in more than a year. "Honestly, hes really easy to work with," catcher Anthony Recker said. "His location tonight was right on point." Pitching one day after his 33rd birthday, Matsuzaka suddenly was a model of efficiency. Working much quicker than before, he threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of 26 batters and needed only 73 pitches to get through six innings. Coming into the game, the former Red Sox star was averaging 20.6 pitches per inning -- second-most in the majors -- while racking up an 8.00 ERA over four starts with the Mets. His snail-slow pace annoyed opponents and fans alike. "Obviously, hes got enough experience to know what it takes to pitch here, but hed spent most of the year in the minor leagues and I think he was trying to nibble," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He was just off the plate, he was using a lot of pitches and a lot of 3-2 counts, and therefore every hitter was seeing every pitch. And now theyre not." The only hits Matsuzaka gave up were Justin Ruggianos 17th homer in the fourth and Adeiny Hechavarrias two-out single in the seventh. After a visit from pitching coach Dan Warthen, Matsuzaka threw a called third strike past Rob Brantly with runners at the corners. When the Marlins opened the eighth with a pinch hitter, Matsuzaka walked off to a warm ovation and tipped his cap to the few fans remaining. It was his first big league win since Aug. 27, 2012, with Boston against Kansas City. He entered 1-10 in his past 16 major league starts. New York signed Matsuzaka last month to fill a hole in its injury-depleted rotation. He spent most of the season in Clevelands farm system. Jose Gimenez Jersey. Pedro Feliciano and Vic Black combined on a one-hit eighth. LaTroy Hawkins got three outs for his 10th save. Murphy and Duda homered to start the third against Jacob Turner (3-7), who fell to 0-6 in his last 11 starts. Duda also hit a three-run shot Friday night that put the Mets ahead to stay. "That was probably the best Ive thrown the ball in a while," Turner said. Murphy singled in the first and stole second before Wilmer Flores snapped a 1-for-26 slide with an RBI single. Logan Morrison drove in two runs during the first game, one on a line drive off Frank Franciscos right hand that knocked the oft-injured reliever out of the game. "It swelled up pretty fast and pretty big," Collins said. Francisco left in obvious pain and was sent for X-rays. The team said he had a bruised hand. The right-hander had been out all season following elbow surgery until he was activated last weekend. "I thought it was broke for sure," Francisco said. "Just hope that it goes away soon and Ill be able to throw as soon as possible." Alvarez (4-4) pitched four-hit ball over seven innings for his second win against the Mets this year. The defeat ensured New Yorks fifth straight losing season since Citi Field opened. Steve Cishek struck out three in the ninth for his 30th save in 32 attempts. He has converted 25 in a row. Carlos Torres (3-5) hit Solano with pitches in his first two plate appearances, the first one near his wrist and the next time on the left shoulder. Solano looked pretty irritated by the second one, but catcher Travis dArnaud and plate umpire Tim Welke quickly stepped in front of him and there was no trouble. "Part of the game," Solano said. He got the best sort of revenge with a leadoff homer against Torres in the sixth to make it 2-0. The second baseman also robbed Omar Quintanilla twice, making a diving play to thwart a fifth-inning rally and a sliding stop to save a run in the seventh. "Long days with doubleheaders, you need somebody to step up and be the hero. And today Alvarez and Solano gave us a big lift," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. Torres struck out a career-high eight in six innings and gave up only three hits. Still, he lost his third consecutive start. The traditional doubleheader was scheduled to make up a June 7 rainout. NOTES: Mets reliever Jeurys Familia was activated from the DL. ... TMZ has released an audio recording where a voice identified as Donald Sterling, owner of the LA Clippers, is making highly offensive remarks about African-Americans to his then-girlfriend V. Larry Andersen Jersey . Stiviano. The Comments He are some of the comments attributed to Sterling on the recording: - "It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that youre associating with black people. Do you have to?" - "You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that ... and not to bring them to my games." - "Im just saying, in your lousy (expletive) Instagram, you dont have to have yourself with, walking with black people." - "...Dont put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And dont bring him to my games." League Responds NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed profound disappointment over the comments and has urged the public to allow for due process to run its course before any action is taken. "All members of the NBA family should be afforded due process and a fair opportunity to present their side of any controversy," Mr. Silver said, "which is why Im not yet prepared to discuss any potential sanctions against Donald Sterling. We will, however, move extraordinarily quickly in our investigation." The Clippers have declared that these comments do not reflect the views of Sterling and that they are looking into the issue. The public was also reminded that the source of the recording, Stiviano, is being sued by Sterlings wife for embezzling $1.8 million in the form of cash, cars and other items from the Clippers owner, thereby suggesting that the veracity of the recording should be questioned. Investigation The first step for the NBA is authenticating the recording. That means confirming that the voice on the recording is that of Sterling and that the recording was not doctored. Sterling may admit that the voice is his, but allege that his ex-girlfriend doctored the tape as payback for being sued by the Clippers owner. Authenticating the recording may not be an easy process. The NBA will need to get Stiviano to agree to be interviewed (likely under oath), which she may decline. If she refuses to talk to the league, there is little it can do to force her since the NBA does not have subpoena power (or an ability to force Stiviano to submit to an interview). The NBA could also hire an expert to review the recording to assess the likelihood that it has been tampered with and whether the voice is that of Sterling. The NBA is being criticized for not suspending Sterling pending the outcome of the investigation. While the sentiment is understandable, the NBA is bang on here. It is important to observe the principles of fundamental justice, which include that justice be administered fairly. A person is entitled to a fair shake even in the face of despicable comments. The NBA is proceeding with its investigation expeditiously and is aiming to have it done in a "few days". Until then, it is important, if not critical, that the process be respected. Fines, Suspensions and Sale of Team Some people around the league want Sterling gone permanently given his a history of being racially insensitive. In 2009, Sterling was sued for discriminatory housing practices after being accused of seeking to drive African-Americans and Latinos from his apartment buildings. The billionaire settled the lawsuit by paying $2.725 million. He was also sued by his former GM Elgin Baylor, who filed a wrongful termination lawsuit that included allegations of racism. In part, Baylor alleged that Sterling rejected a coach because he was African-American. While some want Sterling gone, the NBA is unlikely to force Sterling to sell the team. If the league tried, they would likely be sued by Sterling, who in part, would allege that the league is violating antitrust laws. If successful, such a lawsuit could get Sterling a massive payout. A more likely scenario is a long suspension. And there is a precedent for that: former Cincinnati Reds owner Marge Schott. In December 1992, Schott was quoted in the New York Times as saying that her use of the N-word was a joke after referring to Eric Davis and Dave Parker as her "million-dollar n------". In that same interview, she made favourable comments about Adolf Hitler. As a result, MLB suspended Schott for one year. In 1996, she was suspended for another two years after more racially insensitive comments. In 1998, with her health failing, she agreed to sell the team. Apart from a suspension, we could also see a substantial fine. Ultimately, a fine of $1 million to $5 million would not be surprise. If authenticated, the comments are of course completely unacceptable, highly offensive and frankly disturbing. As well, according to a recent report, African-Americans comprise 76 per cent of all NBA players, while 81 per cent of players are of colour. So the NBA knows one thing: it has to get this right. And that may mean a long suspension and hefty fine. Expulsion, however, doesnt seem likely given the legal challenges. Philadelphia Phillies Jersey .com) - Devin Booker scored 19 points and top-ranked Kentucky put on a defensive clinic in an 83-44 obliteration of UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic. Greg Luzinski Jersey . As the land which invented modern day Association Football and with that ticket to Rio on the line, it seemed Prince Harry included, the entire nations focus was entirely fixated on a sold out Wembley Stadium in North London Tuesday evening.Remember when England/Germany meant something?  Two rivals, on and off the field, the fixture has always brought a certain cache.  The history.  The footballing pedigree.  Some of the biggest names the game has ever seen.  The match has always been a statement of intent, with bragging rights on the line between nations no stranger to hostility.  The two nations domestic leagues are arguably the most entertaining and watchable in the world.  Yet, the quality and play of the national teams are polar opposites.  Even now, an England-Germany fixture sizzles on the surface.  Until the teams hit the field. A match buried amidst European World Cup qualification playoffs saw a German B team handily beat Englands first team 1-0 Tuesday.  The loss was Englands second of the International break and marked the first back-to-back home defeats for the Three Lions dating back to 1977.  A friendly is a friendly.  You take what you see with a grain of salt, but that doesnt mean true class cant shine through.  The way a team plays trumps the scoreline in such a contest.  Take for example Brazils 2-1 win over Chile at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Tuesday night.  It was a purposeful victory from a team with true ambition.  Quality oozed from every move.  Luiz Felipe Scolari and his side treated the game as much more than merely a spectacle, this was preparation to contend in 2014.  The term "business like" wouldnt do the team justice, no matter who is wearing yellow, each player filled a role and the talent shone through within the context of team-first.  The ball movement superior, the team effort near complete. England meanwhile was blasé, failing to threaten throughout.  Sound familiar? An England team lacking cutting edge and precision, weve seen it all before.  This isnt to compare England and Brazil.  Perhaps its somewhat relevant considering England is a spot better, ranked 10th in FIFAs World rankings.  Its perception versus reality; England is simply and thoroughly mediocre.  Manager Roy Hodgson pointed to Englands inferior passing and finishing as the difference in the loss.  Hes absolutely right.  The lack of quality in these areas has plagued the team for decades.  And even when the team had a finisher like an Alan Shearer, they were missing consistent build-up play and team identity.  Nothing has changed in 2013.  Remember, this was wasnt Germanys first team were talking about and still, England was out-classed.  At home. As tweeted by Rob Harris (@RobHarris) of the Associated Press:"Im going to be an optimist about this" - the tune rings out in Wembley after Englands first consecutive home loss in 36 years. The upbeat lyrics from the track Pompeii by Bastille were preferred to the bands other hit song Flaws.  There is very little to be optimistic for England supporters heading into Brazil.  Unless the December 6th World Cup draw renders a group with Switzerland, Iran and Algeria, England will be in tough to progress.  Even if they do advance, then what?  Its plain to see this team is as second rate as other England out-fits dating back to 1990.  The team was booed off the field after the final whistle from the remaining beleaguered voices at Wembley. They know this team isnt good enough and if it wasnt for an inferior qualifying group, England could very well have been taking part in a playoff match Tuesday, or even worse. Its the same song and dance for the national team. p; The domestic league thrives while the supposed best of the best cant get out of first gear internationally. Richie Ashburn Jersey.   These are the same players that thrive in the most competitive domestically league in the world.  The England side boasts one of the joint top goal scorers in the Premier League and two of the joint top assist-men.  These are important players for the biggest clubs in England.  Yet when they come together for country, the result falls short of club form.  Its nonsensical when pundits suggest the downfall in the development of English players is due to too many foreign players in the Premier League.  This excuse needs to stop.  The jobs of top English players arent being threatened by a foreign legion.  Thats an excuse saved for those not good enough.  Top English players star, and play alongside top foreign recruits in the BPL. 15 players active in Tuesdays European World Cup playoffs ply their trade in the Premier League.  Six Brazilians taking centre stage at the Rogers Centre belong to Premier League teams as well. Ive always been of the mindset you become a better player by playing with the best competition possible.  In training and in games, you need to be pushed.  These foreign players bring the best out of their English brethren and it cant be said foreign Premier League players regularly outshine their English teammates in league play.  But internationally, theres no comparison.  Blame Englands system and formation instead. A basic 4-4-2 is constantly mindlessly rolled out, no matter the manager.  Its predictable, boring, and doesnt suit the strengths of the players.  Englands top player Wayne Rooney is misused and significant talent available is wasted.  Without a generational type player like Cristiano Ronaldo, its about putting players in roles they can thrive.  This boils down to identity.  A national footballing identity for England is absent. What is trademark of England football?  It used to be the unattractive long-ball, which fit the size and strength of the players of previous generations.  This current generation is lost, there is no continuity.  Coaching is part of this.  Englands shortage of top qualified coaches, 1,161 elite coaches in comparison to Spains 12,700 or Germanys 5,500 speaks volumes.  They simply dont know how to get the best out of what they have. Ill give Hodgson some credit: although the style remains as dry as the Sahara and unimaginative as ever, younger players are getting a look.  Case and point is the bright play of Andros Townsend, but hes still relatively unproven and far from a difference maker.  There was too much reliance in the past on the old guard.  No longer are John Terry and Frank Lampard among others the key cogs and thats a good thing.  Only Steven Gerrard remains.  Although Gerrards club form warrants consideration, the Captain doesnt provide the same product for the national team, he never has. So here we are.  Just over six months out from the World Cup, and the bar has lowered for England.  It perhaps has not been lowered for the English media.  And perhaps expectations remain sky-high for those choosing to ignore the inevitable.  The realist looks beyond who plays for England, instead acknowledging the what and how is not good enough.  The bar need be lowered.  This international break has done just that.  Now if we can just keep this in mind come June.  @WheelerTSNgareth.wheeler@bellmedia.ca Cheap Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys ChinaWholesale Jerseys ' ' '
