Watch Saweetie Make Her Acting Debut on ‘grown-ish’

Saweetie is tapping into television.

After a successful 2020, the “ICY GRL” is starting off the new year with a new gig. The rapper makes her acting debut on the upcoming midseason premiere of “grown-ish.”

In the episode, Saweetie guest stars as Indigo, Joey Bada$$’s bossy protégé and client to Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi. In the preview clip, Indigo demands a wardrobe change while on set of a music video. When Zoey, who is also Joey’s stylist, tells her that she doesn’t have any other options besides swimsuits, Indigo is not willing to take no for an answer. “Yes, you do,” she says with a smirk.

Saweetie admits she was nervous about taking on the multi-episode role, but Shahidi helped calm her nerves. “I would ask her for advice, and she was so easy to work with, so it was an honor and a pleasure to work by with her. I know she’s gonna continue to do big and great things,” she told EW. “Even if I would mess up sometimes, she was just so helpful. It’s always nice to work with someone who wants you to do as good as them. What I will say is that she’s such a team player. She was like hyping me up and gave me the motivation, so it was fun to work with her.”

Expect even more from Saweetie in the months ahead including the long-awaited release of her debut album Pretty Bitch Music, which has already spawned the singles “Tap In” and “Back to the Streets” with Jhené Aiko. She is also readying her leaked Doja Cat collaboration.

Season 3 of “grown-ish” returns Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. on Freeform. Get a sneak peek below.
