DOHA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government is focusing on efforts to lure Indian professionals, skilled workers and entreprenuers residing in foreign countries to visit Malaysia.He said the move was in line with the Cabinet's decision to expand visa waiver for Indian nationals who are working outside their country, with 500,000 of them making the bulk of the 2.3 million foreign workforce in Qatar alone.Zahid said there is a huge opportunity to tap into the Indian diaspora market as there is a high volume of direct flights from Qatar to Malaysia.
"We are also stepping up efforts to lure more Qataris and Middle-East tourists to visit Malaysia as we noticed that the numbers have been slipping over the past two years," Zahid told Malaysian media members as he began his official visit here today.Zahid said he would also discuss efforts to rejuvenate bilateral trade between Malaysia and Qatar which had been affected by the plunge of oil and gas commodities prices over last couple of years.
