What is erectile dysfunction, Causes and Treatment? from tombill's blog

Erectile dysfunction is an impotence condition where a man loses his ability to attain and maintain an erection for sexual intercourse even when he is sexually aroused. Occasionally every healthy man suffers from erectile dysfunction at some point in his life. But if erectile dysfunction becomes chronic it can have detrimental effects like relationship difficulties, emotional health issues as well as low self-esteem. ED may also be a sign of an underlying health problem like heart conditions, neurological problems, diabetes etc.

If you have an on-going erectile dysfunction problem, talk to your doctor immediately. The treatment of the underlying disease can also reverse ED. In other cases direct treatments like use PDE5 blockers like generic Viagra, kamagra etc, surgery etc may be recommended by your doctor.

Causes
Erection of the male reproductive organ involves the brain, hormones, muscles, emotions, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. A problem with any one of the above can lead to impotence due to ED. Erectile dysfunction can be caused due to stress or mental health and physical issues or sometimes due to a combination of both physical and psychological issues.

  • Physical causes: Generally physical causes are the primary reasons for impotence due to erectile dysfunction. They include cardiovascular disease, hypotension/hypertension, diabetes, obesity, neurological diseases, side effects due to medication, and other health conditions.
  • Psychological causes : Psychological causes of ED include depression, stress, anxiety and difficulties in relationships.
  • Lifestyle causes: lifestyle factors like smoking, alcohol use, and other substance abuse increases the risk for erectile dysfunction.

Treatments
Drug therapy with PDE5 inhibitors is the first line of treatment recommended by doctors for erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil (Viagra, Cheap Generic Viagra, Kamagra etc), tadalafil (Cialis ,Tadalis , generic Cialis etc), vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn) and avanafil (Stendra) are the PDE5 inhibitor drugs approved by the FDA for treating erectile dysfunction. If a man is undergoing PDE5 inhibitor therapy and gets good results with it then no further treatment is necessary.
PDE5 inhibitors are not recommended to all men. Other options for men except PDE5 inhibitor therapy include the following

  • Vaccum pumps and devices
  • Injecting medicines into the penis
  • Extracorporeal shockwave therapy
  • Surgery (limited to rare cases)
