EAST HARTFORD, Conn. Wallace Gilberry Lions Jersey . -- Michigan was making a mess of another game against a heavy underdog, when Desmond Morgan snatched away Connecticuts chance for a huge upset. Morgans one-handed interception in the fourth quarter swung the game Michigans way and the 15th-ranked Wolverines dodged another potentially embarrassing loss with a 24-21 victory against Connecticut on Saturday night. A week after Michigan needed a last-second stand to hold off Akron at the Big House, Brendan Gibbons kicked a 21-yard field goal with 4:36 left to give the Wolverines (4-0) their first lead of the second half. "Were Michigan. We dont play to everyone elses level and for the last two weeks we have. But were going to step it up," defensive end Frank Clark said. Chandler Whitmer threw two touchdown passes and Ty-Meer Brown returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter that put UConn (0-3) up 21-7. Quarterback Devin Gardner turned the ball over three times for Michigan and the Wolverines also muffed a punt inside their 10 that led to a UConn touchdown. Fitzgerald Toussaint carried the offence with 120 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Toussaint broke a 35-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and scored from 12 yards out right after Morgans pick with 9:56 left. Against the Zips, Gardner threw three interceptions and lost a fumble and the Wolverines came away feeling more relieved than victorious. Gardner wasnt much better this week, going 11 for 23 for 97 yards. He ran for 64 yards and a 17-yard touchdown in the first quarter. But his defence had to bail him out, specifically Morgan. After star Connecticut linebacker Yawin Smallwood stopped Gardner short on a fourth-and-2 at the Huskies 22 with 11:23 left in the fourth quarter, the record crowd of 42,704 at Rentschler Field was rocking and starting to believe an upset was in the making. But Morgan made the play of the game and one play later Toussaint swept untouched around the left side to make it 21-21 with 9:49 left. Michigan forced a three-and-out on the next series and got the ball back around midfield, but its drive stalled at the 4 and Gibbons made the short kick to give Michigan a three-point lead with 4:36 left. UConns last drive never had a chance. Michigan pushed the Huskies backward and then they came up a few yards short on a fourth-and-29. UConn, playing without leading receiver Shakim Phillips, managed only 206 yards, 159 passing from Whitmer. The Huskies limped into the most high-profile nonconference home game they have ever played, trying to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2001 and take some heat off third-year coach Paul Pasqualoni. But Michigan had three turnovers in the first half that helped give UConn a 14-7 lead. Turnover No. 4 came on its first possession of the second half and put the Wolverines in a deep hole. Gardner tried to sneak on a third-and-short, but as he slid down the line, he bumped into one of his linemen and the ball popped loose. Brown picked up the ball and had a couple of teammates escort him into the end zone for a 21-7 lead less than 2 minutes into the half. Michigan finally responded with a drive, going 75 yards, the final 35 by Toussaint who made it 21-14 with 5:37 left in the third. The Maize and Blues visit to Rentschler Field was a major event in these parts. Former UConn basketball star Ray Allen made the trip and Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who grew up in Michigan and almost played for the Wolverines, also took in the game from the athletic directors box. On the field, though, the Huskies didnt appear to be in any condition to challenge Michigan, having already lost at home to Towson and Maryland -- at least without help, and Michigan gave it to the Huskies. Gardner threw a first-quarter interception deep in UConn territory. He redeemed himself later with a 17-yard touchdown run to give Michigan a 7-0 lead with 1:52 left in the first. UConn ended the quarter with one first down. But Michigan couldnt take advantage as the Huskies offence sputtered, and the Huskies tied it at 7 with 3:54 left in the half when Whitmer found Spencer Parker, a former walk-on, for an 11-yard touchdown pass. The third Michigan turnover of the half, a bouncing punt that hit off the leg of DaMario Jones while he was looking the other way, gave UConn the ball at the Wolverines 9 and two plays later Whitmer floated a 7-yard TD pass to Lyle McCombs that put the Huskies up 14-7. Gardner didnt complete a pass in the second quarter and for the second straight week Michigan looked disjointed against a heavy underdog. The Wolverines will go into their off week undefeated -- if not satisfied with their play -- and much to work on Lamar Holmes Lions Jersey . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. Anquan Boldin Lions Jersey . Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan scored shootout goals, and backup goalie Cam Talbot earned his second win in two nights as the Rangers shook off a late tying tally and beat the Maple Leafs 2-1 Monday night. http://www.lionsfanspro.com/Black-Rafael-Bush-Lions-Jersey.html?cat=874 . Anthony Calvillo, through 20 CFL seasons, was frequently invincible and largely stoic in the heat of competition. But underneath the professional exterior he was, and is, compellingly human. Consistently one of the top teams in the league, the Bruins have a lot of players that are desirable options in fantasy. Top Picks: While the Bruins arent a high-flying team, but because of the strength of their top lines, they present a lot of players worth taking relatively early in drafts. Patrice Bergeron is a two-way ace and while his scoring numbers are good, what sets Bergeron apart is his plus-minus -- his plus-80 over the last three seasons leads all forwards. Tuukka Rask Not so coincidentally, Bergerons left winger, Brad Marchand ranks second among forwards with a plus-79 rating over the last three years and 67 goals in that time frame ties him with San Joses Joe Pavelski and Vancouvers Alex Burrows, so hes not merely along for the ride. As maligned as Jarome Iginla may have been for his play in Pittsburgh at the end of last season, he had 23 points in 28 (regular season plus playoff) games and his 12 power play points last season were more than anyone on the Bruins. If hes effectively replacing Nathan Horton on the wing with David Krejci and Milan Lucic, thats a pretty good spot for Iginla, with linemates that should complement his game and provide him a good chance to score 30 goals. Another offseason acquisition, winger Loui Eriksson, is coming off a down season, his 0.60 points per game his lowest since 2007-2008, but hes been a consistent produccer, scoring 25 or more goals and 60 or more points in each of the preceding four seasons, so a move to a more competitive team, potentially playing on a line that racks up pluses year after year raises Erikssons appeal. Even though hes 36-years-old and coming off a season in which he scored his fewest points per game (0.40) since 2001-2002, D Zdeno Chara is one of the top handful at his position. Not only does he lead all defencemen in plus-minus over the last three seasons (tied with Bergeron at plus-80), but he ranks fourth among defencemen in goals (33), ninth in points (115) and sixth in penalty minutes (244), so hes a contributor across the board for fantasy purposes. With this ace supporting cast, it turns out that the most valuable Bruins player for fantasy purposes is goaltender Tuukka Rask, who is the unquestioned number one for a likely playoff teamm and, oh, he also has the best save percentage of any goaltender to have played at least 100 games over the last four seasons. Nevin Lawson Lions Jersey. Value Plays: Its certainly possible that C David Krejci could lead the Bruins in scoring -- hes topped 60 points three times -- but his all-around production isnt ideal; good enough to fit as a No. 3 centre in fantasy circles, with some upside if Iginlas arrival gives his line a boost. Sleepers/Breakthrough: No one will be caught by surprise by LW Milan Lucic, who offers a rare combination of scoring and toughness, but hes a sleeper in the sense that he doesnt always play at his ferocious best. That element of risk means not investing too soon in Lucic, but recognizing that he provides upside as a No. 2 or No. 3 left wing. Second-year D Dougie Hamilton is a candidate for a breakthrough season after a solid rookie year, during which he scored 16 points in 42 games. It wouldnt take more than maintaining his status quo per-game production to score more than 30 points this season and if thats coupled with a plus rating, it makes Hamilton a viable fantasy defenceman. For deep leagues that count hits and blocked shots, Dennis Seidenberg offers value because hes been good for 100-plus hits and blocked shots in each of the last four seasons. Rookies: It took a long time for the Bruins to lure 27-year-old Carl Soderberg over from Sweden, and he got a taste of NHL action late last season, but he scored 95 points in 96 games over the last two seasons in the Swedish Elite League and he could upgrade the skill in Boston. The top forward in Providence last season, Ryan Spooner, tallied 57 poitns in 59 AHL games as a first-year pro, earning four games in Boston. He may not have room to crack a scoring line role in Boston, but Spooner could make it difficult to send him down this season. Undersized D Torey Krug made a splash in the playoffs last season, scoring four goals in his first five games, but if he has a chance at some power play time, he could be productive enough to be considered by fantasy owners. It wasnt the sort of performance you would expect from a side chasing for a playoff place. Wholesale Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys . With the opportunity to close to within a point of the postseason positions, Vancouver Whitecaps turned in a display in front of their home fans on Saturday that lacked energy, cohesion and ideas. Real Salt Lake walked out of BC Place with a 1-0 win, despite having left most of their regular starters at home, and they thoroughly deserved the three points. The visitors took the lead inside ten minutes when Devon Sandoval headed in a superb cross from Lovel Palmer, and through the following 80 minutes, the Whitecaps were hardly able to muster an effort on goal. It was an incredibly flat performance from a team that had everything to play for, and it was summed up perfectly by Caps midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker following the game. "We got taught a footballing lesson today," Reo-Coker told my TSN colleague Perry Solkowski. "They have a system that they stick to through the whole season and everybody knows their roles. They had a lot more desire than us." Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie didnt sugarcoat things either. "I thought it was a terrible performance from everybody, and that means it was a terrible performance from the coach as well," he said. Real Salt Lake played really well - a team of reserves who all stepped up and proved that the Utah club has the deepest squad in MLS. However, the Whitecaps also made it fairly easy for them. We have seen many times at BC Place earlier in the season that the Whitecaps are capable of playing an attacking, entertaining style of play, scoring plenty of goals, but that wasnt evident at all against Real Salt Lake. As has been the case this year, Vancouver certainly missed the injured Kenny Miller, but they still had plenty of attacking weapons available. The problem was those weapons appeared fairly blunt. There was little creativity and an inability to break down a very well organized Real Salt Lake team. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the lack of urgency. Playing at home against a massively understrength opposition, the Whitecaps just never seemed to get going. Even when Rennie made changes early in the second half bringing on the speedsters Darren Mattocks and Kekuta Manneh, the Caps produced very little to trouble the opposition. In past games, the injection of Mannehs pace has changed games, but both Manneh and Mattocks provided little impact off the bench. It wasnt until the 93rd minute of the match that we saw the first attack-minded burst from midfield by Reo-Coker. In fact, Real Salt Lake managed the midfield battle for most of the match, dominating possession and preventing the Caps from gaining any momentum going forward. While the Whitecaps chances of making the postseason are mathematically still very much alive, there is little chance of them picking up the necessary points from the remaining four games, judging by the display they produced at the weekend. It was even more puzzling following on from a spirited and highly effective showing in Montreal a week earlier when the Whitecaps came away from Stade Saputo with a 3-0 victory. Its now just two wins in 11 matches for Vancouver – far away from the form needed to challenge for the top five. If the Whitecaps are to keep their hopes alive, they will need to achieve two firsts. Objective number one is to win against Portland Timbers on Sunday, something they are yet to do in Major League Soccer. They will then have to go into Seattle the following Wednesday (live on MLS on TSN) and win at Century Link Field for the first time. The Timbers and Sounders have improved greatly this season, as have Colorado Rapids. At this stage, it seems the Whitecaps havent been able to keep up. The Media Match The day before the Whitecaps played against Real Salt Lake, the club held its first – and soon to be annual – Media Invitational Tournament. It was a fantastic event with around 50 media members attending and split into four teams playing three matches each on the BC Place pitch. If you listen to our TSN FC podcast or follow along on Twitter, you will know the stakes were high, with plenty of banter going back and forth in the days leading up to the tournament. For the record - because my broadcast partner Jason De Vos will try and twist the story – I actually scored three goals, one in each of the games. The highlight was a stunning back-post volley against Jasons team. We ended up tying the match 4-4, and post-game Jason tweeted: "To his credit, Luke played well." Make sure you check out this weeks podcast for a full recap of the event. Cheap Buccaneers Jerseys Authentic . Parisse has a calf injury and coach Jacques Brunel has decided to save him for next weeks tournament closer at home against England. Prop Martin Castrogiovanni, tied with Parisse as Italys most capped player, will hold the record by himself when he makes his 105th appearance on Saturday. Robert Barbieri moves from the openside flank to take Parisses place at No. 8, and lock Marco Bortolami will captain the side for the 39th time in Dublin. "With five players unavailable we had to adapt ourselves," Brunel said on Thursday. "Among the halfbacks we wanted to give a chance to those who had played less like (Luciano) Orquera, also because against Scotland we didnt manage the pressure well in our half. I wanted to integrate (Tito) Tebaldi into the group before the tournament but he had a slight injury and we couldnt select him. "The choices made are not in relation to next Saturdays game in Rome against England but based on consistency that we want to have. The next match is against Ireland and we have prepared for the matchh against that opponent. Cheap Buccaneers Jerseys China. " Bortolami has been promoted from the bench, along with Paul Derbyshire and Luciano Orquera. Alessandro Zanni is also injured and he will be replaced as blindside flanker by Joshua Furno, who moves from the second row. Bortolami comes in for Furno, while Derbyshire takes up Barbieris position in the No. 7 jersey. At flyhalf, Orquera bumps out Tommaso Allan, while Tebaldi replaces Edoardo Gori for his appearance in almost two years. Italy has lost all three of its matches. "Ireland is certainly a better squad than last year," Brunel said. "But we have to remember that we beat them barely a year ago in Rome and in a rather convincing fashion. We have the chance to do so again." ------ Italy: Luke McLean, Angelo Esposito, Michele Campagnaro, Gonzalo Garcia, Leonardo Sarto, Luciano Orquera, Tito Tebaldi; Robert Barbieri, Paul Derbyshire, Joshua Furno, Marco Bortolami (captain), Quintin Geldenhuys, Martin Castrogiovani, Leonardo Ghiraldini, Alberto de Marchi. CLEVELAND -- Jeff Teague never saw his winning shot bounce five times off the rim and fall through the basket Thursday night. Ziggy Ansah Lions Jersey . Fortunately, his teammates let him know the result. Teague scored a career-high 34 points, including a 20-foot jumper at the buzzer in the second overtime, to give the Atlanta Hawks a 127-125 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Teague was flat on his back after shooting over Tristan Thompson and had no idea the ball went in until he was mobbed by his teammates. Only when Kyle Korver began pounding Teagues chest did reality hit. "I couldnt even see it, but Kyle picked me up and told me what happened," Teague said. "Im really happy it went in." The Hawks would never have been in a position to win the game if not for Teagues 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left that tied the game at 108-all in the first overtime. "It was nice for this amazing game to finally be over," Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer said. "Obviously, Jeff Teague made a lot of plays throughout the game and in the overtimes. Im proud of him." Kyrie Irving led Cleveland with 40 points, including 12 in the second OT but the Cavaliers have lost three straight and five of six. "He made a tough play," Irving said. "Its definitely a heartbreaker." Irving was held scoreless for the only time in his career when the teams played in Atlanta on Dec. 6. He bounced back from that game by hitting 17 of 33 from the field with nine assists in 45 minutes. Hawks centre Al Horford, who scored two baskets late in regulation to tie the game, bruised his right shoulder in the first OT and didnt return. Budenholzer said Horford would be further examined Friday. The game featured 12 lead changes and was tied 17 times. The Hawks were coming off a 121-119 overtime loss in Miami on Monday. The defeat, in which Atlanta couldnt hold a seven-point lead with 90 seconds left in regulation, broke a three-game winning streak. Korver scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers. He has made at least one 3-pointer in an NBA record 98 consecutive games. "A lot of guys made some plays," he said. "I think were growing as a team, so thats a positive step." Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters returned after missing three games because of tendinitis in his right wrist. He scored 20 points in 41 minutes, but it was another difficult loss for Cleveland. Portlands Damian Lillard hit a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left to defeat the Cavaliers on Dec. 17. "Its tough, man," Waiters said. "We have to close it out -- especially at home. We have to do a better job. No excuses." Irving hit a 3-pointer and a layup a steal for the first five points of the second overtime. Thompson followed with a basket and a three-point play to give Cleveland a 118-113 lead with 2:50 remaining, but the Hawks werent finished. Korver converted a four-point play with 2:33 remaining that cut the lead to one. Irving and Korver exchanged 3-pointers, Clevelands All-Star point guard followed with a jumper for a 123-120 lead. Following Shelvin Macks basket, Teague converted a three-point play to put Atlanta up 125-123. Irvings jumper tied the game with 55.8 seconds left. Teagues 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left tied the game at 108-all in the first overtime. The Cavaliers called timeout, but Irving lost the ball out of bounds for one of his six turnovers, giving the Hawks one last shot with 2.4 seconds to go. Teague missed from the corner, forcing the second overtime. Two baskets by Horford, who scored 25 points, late in the fourth quarter tied the game at 95-all and neither team scored again in regulation. Cleveland centre Andrew Bynum, who missed all 11 of his shots and was scoreless Monday against Detroit, had four points and one rebound in 18 minutes. He went to the bench early in the third quarter and didnt return. Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll injured his right hand after running into a Tyler Zeller pick in the fourth quarter and didnt return. NOTES: Irving has scored at least 20 points in seven consecutive home games ... Cleveland coach Mike Brown moved F Earl Clark into the starting lineup in place of Alonzo Gee. Gee had started 15 straight games, but saw no action Thursday. Clark had three points in 18 minutes. ... Hawks G John Jenkins (lower back pain) was inactive. ... Atlanta F Cartier Martin (sprained left ankle) went through an extended workout after the morning shoot-around, but didnt play. Kyle Van Noy Lions Jersey . -- Arizona raced out to a big lead and did not back off, hitting the accelerator instead. Darius Slay Lions Jersey . OTTAWA -- Derek Stepan felt like he shed a huge weight Saturday afternoon. The New York Rangers centre had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators ending a 13-game goal-scoring drought. Stepans last goal was Dec. 20th. "Its a big relief," admitted Stepan. "I dont know for whatever reason throughout the year you go through these little dips and gullys and you have to find a way to just get through it. Its like the old saying of getting a monkey off your back." While the goal will definitely help Stepan feel better about his game, he said picking up the two assists were just as important. "It definitely helps with confidence," said Stepan. "Confidence is a tricky thing in this sport. When you seem to find a little bit of it you have to try and build off that momentum." Winners of five of their last six and holding a playoff spot have the Rangers feeling good about their game and they want to continue to improve. "Weve been talking about it as a group that points for the rest of the year are huge," said Stepan. "This one was no different." Brad Richards, Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello also scored for the Rangers (26-21-3). Cam Talbot was solid in goal stopping 27 shots for his 10th win of the season. Marc Methot scored the lone goal for Ottawa (21-19-9) as Craig Anderson stopped 26 shots. The loss put an end to the Senators eight-game (6-0-2) point streak. Ottawa is 1-4-2 on home ice when having to play midday. This one was no different. The last time the Senators won at home in the afternoon was Nov. 9 against the Florida Panthers, which also happens to be the last time they held a playoff spot. "I dont know what it is," said Clarke MacArthur. "To even talk about it is just an excuse. We have to be ready. The other teams come in here ready at two so we have to find a way to be better." Giveaways proved to be extremely costly for Ottawa as the Rangers scored twice on two terrible ones. "It happens to all of us once in a while," said Marc Methot of the giveaways. "Unfortunately it happened a few times (Saturday)." Zuccarello took advantage of a giveaway by Chris Philllips near centre ice and broke in alone on Anderson. Matt Prater Lions Jersey. He caught Anderson out of position to make it 4-1 New York late in the third. While the Senators were managing to hold on during the game despite their sluggish play a late goal in the second proved to be the back breaker. With 11.5 seconds remaining Erik Karlsson went to pass the puck back behind his own net but put it directly on Stepans stick. Stepan beat Anderson shortside to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead and disappoint the 19,978 on hand at Canadian Tire Centre. "It was a momentum swing for sure," said Ottawas coach Paul MacLean of giving up the late goal. "Instead of getting out of the period down one, youre down two. It gives momentum to the other team going into the room and now you have to work even harder coming out of the room to start the period to get something going." MacLean said he didnt feel any need to talk to Karlsson as a mistake that blatant is sure to have an effect on any player. Earlier in the period Nash picked up his 12th of the season, as he broke in alone on Anderson and roofed the puck high. "It was a great play by Stepan," said Nash. "The puck rolled on me a bit, but youll take them any way you can get them." Ottawa had gotten off to a decent start with Methot scoring his fourth, tying a career high, to take a 1-0 lead, but midway through the period the Rangers tied it with a power-play goal. With a two-man advantage Stepan made a cross-crease pass to Richards who went high on a kneeling Anderson. "We started the game well and set ourselves up for a good hockey game," said Karlsson. "We just couldnt pull through for 60 minutes. We were a little bit too sloppy with the puck making plays." Saturdays game marked the first of three meetings between the two teams this season. Ottawa had claimed five straight overall against New York in the regular-season series, including the last three in Ottawa. EAST HARTFORD, Conn. Facundo Roncaglia Argentina Jersey . The Wolverines will go into their off week undefeated -- if not satisfied with their play -- and much to work on Custom Argentina Soccer Jersey . Coach Tom Thibodeau says the former MVP will probably start travelling with the team in the next few weeks. Rose tore the meniscus in his right knee at Portland in November and was ruled out for the remainder of the season by the Bulls.1. With Alex Anthopoulos stating this week that manager John Gibbons will return for the 2014 season, the usual first off-season move has been made.  This begs the question – should Anthopoulos be getting a similar vote of confidence from the team – does he deserve one? When you get hired to work as a manager or general manager you know youre hired to get fired.  Very rarely does either get to go out on their own terms.  It is far more common that managers get votes of confidence.  When a manager gets a vote of confidence from an owner or GM it is far more about the players than the manager.  A vote of confidence tells players that their direct boss is not only here today but he is here for the future as well.  It gives the manager power and the support he needs with a struggling team.  It provides the juice he needs to hold players accountable.  I learned the hard way that players dont really care when a GM gets fired.  General managers dont impact players everyday like a manager.  We dont write the lineup or batting order.  We dont make pitching changes. Players truly only care about the GM for the week every year when contracts are being negotiated.  So any vote of confidence that a general manager gets is usually just to pacify the medias curiosity about whether a general manager will be back.  Sure the same can be said for a manager, but it is not the primary reason.  Alex Anthopoulos deserves to be back next year.  Any GM who wins the off-season in acquisitions deserves to return regardless of the result.  Many of us thought the moves he made were going to allow the Jays to win the division.  The fact that some of the good players didnt play well isnt Anthopoulos fault.  Sometimes "Stink Happens."   Now if things dont turn around next year, then both Anthopoulos and Gibbons could be in trouble.  It is a game of results.  Fairness and understanding exist after one disappointing season with a certain roster, but typically not two.  It is the nature of the beast.  2.  The Pittsburgh Pirates added Marlon Byrd and John Buck by trade earlier in the week. Now that all the moves have been made – which GM gets the best grade for his work this season? There has been some extraordinary work done by general managers this year. I know how difficult a job it is to put together a winning team.  GMs should get credit for all of the player moves they make during the season and credit for the ones they didnt make as well.  Sometimes the best trades you make are the ones you dont.  Sometimes keeping a young player in the big leagues instead of sending him down to the minors turns out to be a brilliant move, but no one gives the GM credit. Neil Huntington finally found the right formula in Pittsburgh while never making the biggest splashiest move.  He signed pitcher Francisco Liriano as a free-agent that has proven to be his best move. Huntington is in a division with two of baseballs best GMs John Mozeliak in St Louis and Walt Jocketty in Cincinnati, both of whom have also had great years.  Ned Colletti the GM of the Dodgers deserves credit for some of the big moves he made last year, acquiring Hanley Ramirez from Miami and Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford from Boston.  During the season, Colletti has shown great patience for a team that struggled early.  He got Ricky Nolasco from the Marlins well before the trade deadline and sent a message to his team that he still believed in them.  They responded. Frank Wren In Atlanta has his team primed for the playoffs once again.  His free agent signing of BJ Upton has been a bust, but most every other move has allowed them to stay atop the division.  Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.  When Wren made a trade in the off-season for Justin Upton he was hoping to get a premium young outfielder.  Upton has been pretty good but a throw in player in the deal, Chris Johnson, has been a steal as he is second in the NL in hitting.  Billy Beane was the 2012 Sporting News Executive of the Year for his surprising young As team.  Once again he is doing a fine job helping his team keep pace with Jon Daniels Texas Rangers.  Daniels has been able to weather some pretty significant losses because of free agency, trades or injuries over the past year: Josh Hamilton, Michael Young,  Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz, Colby Lewis and Nelson Cruz.  When you look at that list of names, it is amazing the Rangers are still on top of the AL West. Dave Dombrowski in Detroit is one of the games best GMs.  His trade deadline deal to acquire shortstop Jose Iglesias in anticipation of the suspension of Jhonny Peralta was brilliant.  The Tampa Bay Rays continue to amaze the baseball world competing with the big boys on a tight budget.  Andrew Friedman is the best at finding a reclamation project.  This year they have gotten more out of James Loney than anyone could have imagined.  Freidman also oversees the growth and development of a tremendous feeder farm system.  But of all of the great work that has been done this year, the best work has come from Ben Cherington of the Boston Red Sox.  Cheringtons reconstruction started last season when he purged his roster sending Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett to LA.  This freed up roster space and money to reconstruct his roster.  There are currently 10 players on the Red Sox roster that werent in their organization a year ago.  The big three-team deal to land Jake Peavy at the deadline has rounded out their rotation and set them up to be a tough matchup in the playoffs. One of Cheringtons best moves was bringing John Farrell back to Boston to manage the team.  It may be difficult or confusing for Jays fans to hear that, but it is true.  More than anything, the Red Sox needed to get their pitching staff fixed.  Farrell had a pre-existing relationship with Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester and both of them returned to form.  He has managed his roster of "baseball players" and non-superstars extremely well.  He has been a calming influence after a year of chaos with Bobby Valentine.  Cherington is my Executive of the Year! 3.  Which team currently NOT in the playoffs has the best chance of making a run and getting in?  I believe the National League playoff teams are set.  The Braves and Dodgers are going to win their division.  In the Central, three teams will make the playoffs: Pirates, Cards and Reds. The only thing left to be determined is who will be the division winner and which two teams will be the Wild Card contenders.  I actually think when it is all said and done, the Reds are winning the division.  The Dodgers are winning the West and wont be challenged. In the American League, Detroit is in.  They will win the Central.  Even if Miguel Cabrera needs a coouple weeks off to heal his aching body, I believe Detroits pitching can sustain them. Mariano Andujar Argentina Jersey.   Boston will most likely win the AL East, but if they falter they will still get in as a Wild Card.  The same can be said of the amazing Texas Rangers, who never seem to doubt themselves.  Credit manager Ron Washington with keeping the attitude right there.  As we currently stand Oakland and Tampa Bay are the Wild Card entrees.  So the question becomes can Baltimore (3.5 gb), New York (5.0 gb) or Cleveland (4.0gb) make a run and get in? Baltimore has had another surprising season.  I never think they have enough pitching to complete but they find ways to win with just enough pitching and a high-powered offense that can strike at anytime.  I thought there was a good chance the Yankees would finish in last place this year. Joe Girardi has gotten a ton out of the retreads that Brian Cashman has been able to piece together. Lyle Overbay, Travis Hafner, Vernon Wells and Mark Reynolds were in baseballs witness protection program before the Yankees found them.  We hadnt heard from them in years.  You can never count out a team with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte. The Indians have been rebuilding for a few years and finally seem to be getting it together.  The hiring of Terry Francona was brilliant.  He is a season changer.  He gets the most out of a roster and does it with class and dignity. They are a young team that is starting to believe in themselves.  When the season started I liked what they had done with their position players but thought they were short on pitching. So of these three teams, the one with the best chance of making a run is the Cleveland Indians.  They have the easiest schedule of the three and over the last month they will be playing most AL Central foes and not the tougher AL East teams.  While the Yanks and Orioles will be beating each other up for seven games and then facing the Rays and Red Sox for another 10 games combined, the Indians will be facing the Twins and White Sox.  Since the All-Star break, the Indians have the second best pitching in the AL.  The young arms are learning quickly and Ubaldo Jiminez is returning to the form of his days in Colorado.  Plus dont underestimate the Terry Francona factor.  He has been in these races before and he has gotten these youngsters to believe in themselves even when no one else has.  I dont think it will happen, but if the Indians make the playoffs I wont be shocked. Fair or Foul The New York Mets received horrific news this week that their ace young pitcher Matt Harvey has a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament.  You got it.  That is the injury that more often than not leads to Tommy John surgery.  Sounds familiar doesnt it?  Remember Stephen Strasburg. The Mets had been talking about protecting Harvey over the last month of the season.  They obviously started protecting him too late.  Pitchers can be injured in a number of ways but more often than not they get hurt because of poor mechanics or overuse.  Harvey isnt Stephen Strasburg.  The young Mets right-hander has much better throwing action than does Strasburg.  Every once in a while Harvey recoils, which means his arm snaps back up after the ball is released rather than decelerating in an easy manner toward the ground. But for the most part he has pretty pure mechanics.  So that is not likely the cause of his injury. One of the major things teams have to guard against with young pitchers is overuse.  Significant increases in innings from one year to the next can be dangerous.  History has shown that overuse can lead to the arm breaking down.  Everyone seems in shock over Harveys injury because he has only thrown 178 innings this year compared to 169 a year ago between the majors and minors.  "Certainly overuse isnt the cause.", pundits are saying.  Really?  Overuse isnt just about how many innings a pitcher throws; it is also about how he accumulates those innings.  Harvey only threw 178 innings, just nine more than last season but he had accumulated the innings in a six-week shorter period of time.  He was on pace for somewhere between 210 and 220 innings.  That is almost 50 more than a year ago.  That is a close to a 30 percent increase.  Overuse can also be about how many a pitches a hurler is allowed to throw.  It is not just about the total number; it is also about how compacted those pitches are in an outing.  I believe that once a pitcher gets to 15 pitches in an inning he starts to become physically vulnerable.  He starts to wear down.  The ability to command and locate pitches decreases as well as overall effectiveness after 15 pitches in an inning.   The reason for this is that fibers in the arm tear every time a pitcher throws the ball.  It causes bleeding.  The more one throws without recovering the more breakdown occurs.  A 100-pitch outing spread out over seven innings is much gentler on the arm than 100 pitches over five innings.  It is the same number of pitches but because they are thrown in a more compacted period without rest, the arm becomes vulnerable to injury.  Harvey threw over 100 pitches in 18 of his 26 games started.  He threw 110 or more pitches in half of his starts. Over a five-start period from his last outing in June through the month of July, Harvey threw 551 pitches, an average of 110 per start.  Harvey admitted he had been pitching with right forearm tightness for most of the season and had been receiving treatment.  Sure he was pitching well with it, but when the arm is compromised with pain and inflammation, it is even more prone to further injury. Maybe Matt Harveys injury is just a fluke but we cant dismiss the facts that he had tightness in his forearm and was on pace to throw significantly more innings than he ever had before.  A young ace is worth $23M.  That is the going rate for a #1 starter.  Harveys salary was just  $498,750 for the year.  Teams need to do everything they can to protect their young studs.  Players get six years of Major League service before they become free-agents.  Although it hasnt been decided that Harvey will have Tommy John surgery just yet it is likely he will need it at some point.  My experience is that rest and rehab will not heal a tear to the ulnar collateral ligament. It is highly likely they are only postponing the inevitable surgery.  Harvey will likely spend one year of his limited service time on the disabled list.  Could this injury have been averted?  Would fewer innings or pitches have kept him healthy?  Would resting him until the tightness in his forearm passed have protected the ligament in his elbow?  We will never know.  But as salaries for ace pitcher continue to rise teams are going to have to consider new ways to keep their pitchers on the field.  Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Auston Matthews Jersey ' ' '

McCann came into the contest not having scored more than twice in a game, doing it three times in his rookie season, while Tolchinkys four points bested his previous high of three, which came last season against the Mississauga Steelheads. Tyler Gaudet scored once and set up two more for the Greyhounds (1-0-0) while Dylan Staples, Jorgen Karterud, Brandon Hughes and Michael Bunting each added a goal. Patrick Watling, Andrew Fritsch and Trent Mallette chipped in two assists apiece for Sault Ste. Marie. Dominik Kubalik, Nicholas Baptiste and Nathan Pancel supplied the offence for the Wolves (0-1-0). Matt Murray made 29 saves for the win as Franky Palazzese picked up the loss after allowing eight goals against on 28 shots through 40 minutes of action. Troy Timpano replaced Palazzese to start the third period and stopped 2-of-4 shots in relief. Sault Ste. WASHINGTON -- The Washington Redskins opened free agency not with the familiar Dan Snyder splash but instead with a few noteworthy ripples, keeping a couple of key players while adding an offensive lineman, a special teams standout and a No. 2 receiver. No Jairus Byrd or Aqib Talib landing via the teams owner private plane within hours of the official start of the NFLs annual open market. While there still could a blockbuster to come, the brain trust of general manager Bruce Allen and new coach Jay Gruden began by spreading the salary cap money around to plug as many holes as possible after a 3-13 season. Inside linebacker Perry Riley and receiver Santana Moss were re-signed with just hours to go before they were set to become free agents. Receiver Andre Roberts, guard Shawn Lauvao and linebacker Adam Hayward agreed to terms and are expected to sign their deals once theyve completed their physicals, according to people familiar with their deals who spoke on condition of anonymity because the contracts had not yet been signed. Cornerback Corey Graham and defensive end Antonio Smith were scheduled for visits to Redskins Park. Riley was the Redskins leading tackler from last season, and his return gives Washington a measure of stability in the heart of the defence. With longtime captain London Fletcher planning to retire, the Redskins faced the daunting task of replacing both inside linebackers in their 3-4 scheme had Riley signed elsewhere. Rileys deal is worth about $13 million over three years, including approximately $4.25 million in guaranteed money, according to a person familiar with the contract who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Redskins did not publicly release the financial details. A 2010 fourth-round pick who has started 40 consecutive games, Riley became the third Redskins defensive player to re-sign rather than test unrestricted free agency. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall and defensive lineman Chris Baker also have new deals, and outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is all but certain to return after receiving the franchise player tag last week. Gruden also opted to retain defensive co-ordinator Jim Haslett. Also coming back is Moss, who turns 35 in June and signed a one-year deal. He had 42 catches for 452 yards in 2013 as the teams No. 3 receiver and has accepted without complaint his reduced role over the last two seasons. He recently passed 10,000 yards receiving for his career, and 2014 will be his 10th season with the Redskins. Gyasi Zardes Jersey. While Moss will be back as the No. 3 wideout and Pierre Garcon as No. 1, Roberts is set to fill the No. 2 role being vacated by Joshua Morgan, who is now a free agent. Roberts, who has played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, had 43 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns last year. His best season was 2011, when he had 64 catches for 759 yards and five touchdowns. A person familiar with Roberts deal said it has a base value of $16 million over four years with $8 million guaranteed, including a $4 million signing bonus, and that the deal could be worth up to $17.35 million with incentives. The person said Roberts is scheduled to take his physical Wednesday and then sign his deal. The person spoke to the AP because the terms of the deal had not been announced. Lauvao represents the first move in Grudens plan to upgrade an offensive line in charge of protecting franchise quarterback Robert Griffin III. A third-round draft pick in 2010, he has played four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, mostly at right guard. Chris Chester has been the Redskins right guard for three seasons, and Lauvaos arrival could lead to a shuffling of a unit that allowed 43 sacks last year. Lauvaos deal is worth $17 million over four years, according to ESPN. The Redskins kick and coverage units were among the worst in recent NFL history last year, so Hayward was a natural target after his work on special teams over seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He agreed to a three-year contract, according to a person familiar with the deal, and he is expected to sign Wednesday. Graham and Smith will have to be courted in person before they agree to a deal, with both set to visit the Redskins practice facility. Graham, who has played the last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, could compete with second-year player David Amerson for the starting cornerback position opposite Hall. Smith, who had five of his 41 1/2 career sacks last year with the Houston Texans, would fill another need. While theyve been one of the NFLs most active free agency teams in 15 years under Snyder, the Redskins were quiet the last two seasons because of a $36 million salary cap penalty imposed by the NFL for the way the contracts were restructured during the 2010 uncapped year. Now they have money, but they have lots to do. Even if they sign Graham and Smith, they would still need a pair of starting safeties, a linebacker to replace Fletcher and probably a right tackle. Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys Auston Matthews Jersey ' ' '
CHICAGO -- The fast start for the New York Rangers was erased by the Chicago Blackhawks in a couple minutes during the first part of the second period.http://www.francenationalshop.com/Maxime-Gonalons-France-Jersey/ . Playing the Stanley Cup champions in their building, Henrik Lundqvist and Co. came up with an encouraging response. Carl Hagelin scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks on Wednesday night. "We worked so hard, so this is a big one for us," said Lundqvist, who had 35 saves. "Playing such a good team and the position were in, were desperate for points and wins, so just a great feeling the way we played and got rewarded in the end with that big goal." The Rangers (22-20-3), who began the day in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, improved to 6-2-1 in their last nine games. They were coming off a 4-3 shootout loss at home against Columbus. Asked if the victory over Chicago could be a tipping point for New York, coach Alain Vigneault responded: "All I know is beating the Stanley Cup champions in this building is not an easy task." Jonathan Toews and Brandon Bollig scored in the second period for Chicago (29-8-9), which had recorded at least one point in a season-high 10 games. Coupled with Sundays shootout loss against San Jose, the Blackhawks lost consecutive home games for the second time this season. It was Chicagos first regulation loss since it was blown out at Toronto, falling 7-3 on Dec. 14. "Weve got too many guys right now that arent contributing to that level we saw most of the season," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. Marc Staal started the winning sequence with a long slap shot that was stopped by Corey Crawford, who also got in front of Hagelins first rebound attempt. But Hagelin stayed with the play and flipped the puck into the open right side with 5:57 left. It was Hagelins fourth winning goal of the season, tops on the team. He also is tied for the team lead with 11 goals overall. "Lately, we have a lot of confidence and try not to get too frustrated," Hagelin said. "Some games the puck goes in and other days it doesnt. But I think when youre creating chances you stay positive." Brad Richards and Mats Zuccarello also scored for New York, which earned its first win in Chicago since a 3-2 victory on Jan. 16, 2009. The Rangers and Blackhawks took turns controlling the action in the first two periods. The first belonged to New York, which made the most of a disjointed start for Chicago. Richards scored on a wrist shot at 5:06 and Zuccarello made it 2-0 when he skated behind the net for a wraparound that banked off the paddle of Crawfords stick for a power-play score at 9:29. Lundqvist had the secondary assist on Zuccarellos 11th goal. It was Lundqvists second assist of the season and 14th of his career. "Especially there in the first we were sloppy," Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith said. "We got better as the game went along, but unfortunately, they were able to get one late." Chicago bounced back in the second, using a power play to get back in the game. With Derick Brassard in the box for interference, Toews beat a screened Lundqvist high on the stick side for a rebound goal at 6:17. It was Toews 16th of the season and first since Chicagos captain scored twice during a 7-2 victory over Colorado on Dec. 27. The Blackhawks struck again 1:48 after Toews goal. Bollig skated alone down the left side and tied it at 2 with a well-placed wrist shot into the lower left side of the net. It was Bolligs fourth goal of the season. Crawford settled down after the uneven start and finished with 29 saves. He made a nice glove save on Rick Nash on a semi-breakaway with 2:05 left in the second, keeping the game tied at 2. He also used his right pad to deny Brassard early in the third. NOTES: The 26-year-old Zuccarello is tied with Richards, Hagelin and Chris Kreider for the team lead in goals. Zuccarellos previous career high was six goals when he was a rookie with New York in the 2010-11 season. ... On Saturday, David Sterns 30-year tenure as the commissioner of the National Basketball Association comes to a close. Wilbert Montgomery Eagles Jersey . No man in the modern era has held the top office in one of the ‘Big Four sports longer than Stern and the NBA that we know today was largely molded under Sterns watch and his impact on the league is indelible. TSN basketball analyst Jack Armstrong on the legacy of David Stern: David Stern was a visionary who took the league through many challenges with a firm leadership style. Bringing financial stability, great media coverage, global visibility and incredible promotion of both star players and teams alike were just a few of the ways he was as big an impact player as anybody who wore a uniform. The league was a mess when he took over, but not now.  Adam Silver is inheriting a league in terrific shape - an NBA poised to continue to be proactive, decisive and a trendsetter on the pro sports landscape. Stern was the best commissioner the league has ever had and, arguably, the best in pro sports history.  He leaves quite a legacy. Lets look back, then, on a generation of basketball under Sterns watch and where its come from and where its headed in large part due to the man calling time on a storied career. Sterns impact on league direction did not begin with his assumption of the commissioners office in 1984, but rather with two key policies enacted while the Columbia law graduate was still the leagues Executive Vice-President: drug testing and revenue-sharing, both of which provided the framework for the two guidelines in place to this day. A lawyer first, Sterns impact on the business side of operations is obvious, both domestically and abroad. Expansion and franchise movement are hallmarks of Sterns NBA. Under the New York City natives guidance, the league has added seven teams in his 30 years (the Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, Vancouver Grizzlies and Charlotte Bobcats) and relocated six more (the San Diego Clippers headed to Los Angeles, the Kings left Kansas City for Sacramento, the Grizzlies went south to Memphis, the Seattle Supersonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Charlotte Hornets eventually became the New Orleans Pelicans and the New Jersey Nets crossed state lines into Brooklyn). Recognizing the global nature of the game, Stern sought to raise the leagues profile in two key ways. Prior to Stern assuming office, the then Washington Bullets had competed in four games against international competition (one in Israel, two in China and another in the Philippines). These were the only four games that an NBA team had competed in outside of North America. Sensing the international appetite for basketball and the potential to gain exposure abroad, Stern set in motion an initiative that, 30 years later, saw expansion into Canada and games played throughout Europe (Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the then Soviet Union, Spain, Japan, France, Georgia, Russia, Lithuania and Turkey,) Asia (Japan, Taiwan and Macau,) Latin America (Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico) and the Caribbean (Bahamas). As of Sterns retirement, 147 games, both exhibition and regular season, have been played outside of continental North America. The second prong in Sterns international plan of attack was the deployment of NBA players to international events like the FIBA World Championships and Summer Olympics, starting with the Dream Team with the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird running roughshod in Barcelona in 1992. Did Sterns plan work? Well, over his 30-year tenure, players representing 69 different countries have appeared in the NBA, a stunning testament to the games growth and popularity abroad. Stern also moved the NBA into the world of the 24-hour news cycle and took advantage of the burgeoning demand for sports programming on television. Its simply impossible to believe in 2014, but prior to David Stern, the NBA Finals were aired on tape delay. Thats right, tape delay!Stern put an end to that, signing lucrative television deals over the past 30 seasons that have ensured live broadcasts in both national and local markets. Right now, the Association is in the seventh year of an eight-year pact with Turner Sports and ABC/ESPN worth $7.44 billion. Rest assured, competition for the next TV deal will be fierce and the league can expect an even more substantial pact. The impact the TV deal had on the financial health of the league is obvious. According to Forbes, the NBAs 23 teams in 1984 were worth a collective $400 million. In the magazines latest franchise valuations, the average NBA franchise is worth $634 million, up 25 per cent from last year alone and the leagues franchises on the whole are worth an estimated $19 billion. Revenue generated from the 1982-83 season, the last prior to Sterns assumption of control, was $118 million. Last season saw revenue generation of $4.6 billion. The Draft Lottery system is another advent under Sterns reign. Phasing out the archaic system of a coin toss between the leagues bottom-two teams to determine who would select first in the annual NBA Draft, Stern introduced a lottery in 1985 that would see any team who missed out on the postseason have an opportunity at the first overall selection in the draft. The process would undergo revisions over the years, but it became an effective tool to prevent out-and-out tanking by losing teams and would be adopted by Stern acolyte Gary Bettman for use in the NHL. The growth under Stern from a business perspective is absolutely stunning, but Sterns sea change was also felt on the court and the in the locker rooms. When Magic Johnson announced that he was HIV-positive in 1991 and stepping away from the game, Stern stood next to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar on the podium, literally and figuratively. Johnson would return to the league and play again in 1995, as Stern and the rest of the NBA showed a progressive stance when it came to a proper understanding of the transmission of the disease and those living with it. Former journeyman John Amaechi came out in 2007 at the conclusion of his NBA career and Stern asserted that a players sexuality wasnt of importance. "We have a very diverse league,” Stern said at the time. “The question at the NBA is always Have you got game? Thats it, end of inquiry.” He praised Jason Collinss courage when the forward revealed his homosexuality in April of 2013. “As Adam Silver and I said to Jason, we have known the Collins family since Jason and [twin brother] Jarron joined the NBA in 2001 and they have been exemplary members of the NBA family,” Stern said in a statement. “Jason has been a widely respected player and teammate throughout his career and we are proud he has assumed the leadership mantle on this very important issue.” The NBA also showed a progressive ideal that no other professional league did when, in 1997, it became the first major league to employ female officials with the hiring of Violet Palmer and Dee Kantner as referees. From a discipline perspective, Stern has never been one to shy away on tough decisions. In 1995, Dallas Mavericks star Roy Tarpley was permanently banned from the NBA for repeated substance abuse issues. Stern followed suit that same year with Richard Dumas of the Phoenix Suns. The Miami Heats Chris “Birdman” Andersen was out of the NBA from 2006-2008 due to drug violations. Though some argue that Sterns policies could be more lenient, they were praised by one of the more high profile recipients of a ban. Micheal Ray Richardson, a former fourth overall pick of the New York Knicks in 1978, had lengthy and well-documented substance abuse issues and found himself suspended multiple times over the course of his career. In 1986 as a member of the Nets, Richardson was banned for life for three positive tests. Two years later, his suspension was upheld, but Richardson tested positive for cocaine twice in 1991. At the time, the  four-time All-Star vehemently disputed his positive results and vocally complained that the league was displaying a double standard in not disciplining Golden State Warriors star Chris Mullin for his battles with alcoholism. As the years have passed, Richardson, who coaches the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada, now credits Stern with helping turn his life around. He and Stern made amends at an exhibition game in Paris in 1997.“I went up to him at halftime just to say no hard feelings,” Richardson told Metro London in November 2013. “He doesnt know it, but he probably saved my life.” Sterns policy of ignoring a players stature when meting out discipline extended beyond drug bans. Bit players and All-Stars alike were brought to NBA justice under Stern. Latrell Sprewell, then of the Warriors, was suspended 68 games in 1997 for throttling then coach PJ Carlesimo. Metta World Peace, then Ron Artest, received a 73-game ban for his part in the infamous November 2004 “Malice at the Palace” brawl in Detroit and three other players were suspended for 25-games-plus. After Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards brought a gun into the locker room in January of 2010, the three-time All-Star was suspended for 50 games. The importance of cultivating a workable minor-league system was also recognized by Stern and implemented through the proper expansion of the National Basketball Development League, now the NBA D-League, in 2005 after its creation in 2001. For the first time, NBA teams, like their NHL and MLB counterparts, had a place where they could develop talent without taking up roster spots and use the D-League to spot talent not under NBA contract. From 2005, players with three years of service or fewer could be assigned to the D-League and in the 2011-2012 season, an agreement was reached that would allow veteran players to be assigned to the league if they chose to consent. The benefits of the D-League for the 30 franchises were obvious, but it also represented a tremendous avenue for passed over players to force teams into giving them another look. Jeremy Lin, JJ Barea and Marcin Gortat are among those who blossomed during their D-League tenures before being recalled to their parent teams, while the likes of Matt Barnes, Will Bynum and Chuck Hayes all earned NBA contracts after successful D-League stints. That same summer of 2005, Stern made another significant policy change when the league and NBAPA agreed that players would no longer be admitted into the league straight from high school. Superstars like Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Tracy McGrady headed into the Association right after high school, but a player would now have to be 19 years of age to play in the NBA. One of the main reasons for this implementation was to encourage players to head to college and pursue an education. Many see this as naïve, referring to it as the “one-and-done rule,” as many players now will declare for the NBA Draft after their freshmen years, but it nonetheless forced an issue that few wanted to talk about. On the court, Sterns watch saw new rules introduced to both improve the game and add to its integrity. The 1998 season brought with it a ban on any sort of forearm and hand-checking anywhere above the free throw line. This allowed for more unobstructed scoring and some of the games more productive players took full advantage. In 2002, instant replay was introduced to determine whether or not shots got off prior to the expiration of game and shot clocks. Its usage was expanded in 2008, when replay could be used to discern if a basket should be worth two or three points. An epidemic in soccer and hockey, Sterns NBA took on flopping in 2012. Though rules were implemented in 1997 to try to curb it, the addition of fines (albeit, monetarily insignificant ones) were meant to add in the shaming of the practice in a further attempt to eliminate it from the game. Obviously, that process is an ongoing one. It would be completely disingenuous to suggest that the Stern commissionership was all sunshine and lollipops, because it certainly wasnt. The NBA experienced times of tumult under Sterns watch, as well. In his 30 years as commissioner, Sterns NBA has seen labour disruption four times. Thats more than any other head of any of the “Big Four” leagues. With lockouts in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2011, seasons were shortened two of the four times and revenues suffered and acrimony lingered between the league and the NBAPA. While the Draft Lottery was a novel concept, it hasnt been without its controversy, either. To this day, some insist that the 1985 lottery, won by the Knicks who then selected Patrick Ewing with the first overall pick, was rigged in favour of the Knicks as a means to get the leagues biggest television market the best available player. However, it remains a conspiracy theory. Gambling as an issue has arisen on a couple of very prominent occasions on Sterns watch as well. When the Raptors were about to enter the league in 1995, the NBA ordered that gambling on basketball must be removed from Ontarios provincial sports lottery. The league went as far as to suggest that the expansion franchise would be upheld if there wasnt complete compliance. After three months of negotiation, the leagues wishes were adhered to and Pro-Line removed NBA basketball from its games. Fifteen years later, betting on the NBA was reintroduced to that lottery. An even heavier gambling episode occurred with the case of referee Tim Donaghy. In 2007, it was revealed that Donaghy, a 14-year veteran, was under FBI investigation for gambling on games in which he was officiating and his connections to organized crime. Donaghy was arrested and eventually pled guilty to two counts of felony conspiracy and ended up serving 15 months in a federal prison. Though Stern categorized Donaghys actions of those of a “rogue official,” North American sports largest gambling scandal since Pete Rose brought with it aspersions from the media and fans alike over the integrity of leagues officials. Stern brought about tougher background checks on potential referees, but the taint associated with the episode lingered and still does to a lesser extent today. While relocation has brought with it mostly positive results, it, too, has not been without its detractors. Obviously, there is lingering resentment in markets where franchises left, but the New Orleans Pelicans (then, the Hornets) brought a special challenge to the commissioners office when the league assumed ownership of the struggling team in late 2010. The following year, Hornets star guard Chris Paul asked to be traded and in December of 2011, a three-team deal was agreed upon that would have seen Paul move to the Lakers, Pau Gasol head to the Houston Rockets and Lamar Odom to the Hornets. Stern, however, vetoed the trade for what he called “basketball reasons.” The optics here looked bad. Here was the commissioners office intervening in a trade involving a team under league ownership. This appeared to be a blatant conflict of interest on Sterns part and one resulting from pressure from the leagues board of governors to cultivate parity (in not sending another star player to the Lakers,) but Stern stuck to his guns and the deal died. Still, Sterns detractors pale in comparison to the innovation and stability brought to the NBA under Sterns watch. After 30 years, Stern can walk away from his post proud of the forward-thinking and critical leadership he brought to a league that was crying out for somebody to grab the reins and guide. On Saturday, David Stern exits a bigger, better and more entertaining NBA than the one he entered and the teams, players and fans are all better off for it. David Stern was part-maverick, part-entrepreneur and North American sports had seen few like him before. Very likely, they wont again. Allen Barbre Eagles Jersey . LONDON -- Arsenal will play in the Champions League for a 16th consecutive season, and Schalke scraped into the group stage along with them after beating PAOK Salonika in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday. With a 3-0 lead over Fenerbahce from the first leg, Aaron Ramsey netted twice to ensure Arsenal comfortably won the playoff 5-0 on aggregate. "At the top level, the most difficult thing is to be consistent and of course its an achievement," to qualify again, manager Arsene Wenger said, "but our ambition is much higher than that." Arsenal has never won European footballs biggest prize or any trophy since the 2005 FA Cup. It was a nervier night for Schalke, which overcame U.S. midfielder Jermaine Jones being sent off to win 3-2 at Salonika and advance 4-3. Steaua Bucharest will be in the group stage for the first time in five years after drawing 2-2 at Legia Warsaw to go through on away goals after the first leg finished 1-1. Basel, already leading Ludogorets Razgrad 4-2, won 2-0 on home soil to cruise into Thursdays draw where it will be joined by Austria Vienna, which squeezed through 4-3 on aggregate despite losing 3-2 at home to Dinamo Zagreb. In London, Fenerbahce gifted Arsenal the lead after 25 minutes, with Ramsey providing the finish from close range. The Wales midfielder, who scored in Istanbul last week, volleyed in another in the 72nd after being set up by Kieran Gibbs. There had been a blow for Arsenal early in the second half when Lukas Podolski was carried off on a stretccher with a left hamstring injury that is expected to sideline the Germany forward for three weeks. Ron Jaworski Eagles Jersey. "We paid a heavy price on the injury front," Wenger said. The result ended concerns about the chaos awaiting UEFA if Fenerbahce advanced while appealing a two-year Champions League expulsion over a 2011 Turkish match-fixing case. That appeal verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport is scheduled for Wednesday. In Greece, Adam Szalai put Schalke in front before half time after Atsuto Uchida squared the ball to him. Stefanos Athanasiadis blasted in an equalizer for the resilient Salonika at the start of the second half, and their chances of advancing appeared to have been boosted by Schalke being reduced to 10 men when Jones received his second booking for fouling Dimitris Salpingidis in the 64th. But after an exchange of goals, Szalai struck again in the 90th to ensure Schalke will play in the group stage for the sixth time. In Poland, Steaua appeared to be cruising after Nicolae Stanciu and Federico Piovaccari scored inside the first nine minutes to put the visitors 3-1 up on aggregate Legia Warsaw pulled one back in the 27th through Miroslav Radovics header and Jakub Rzezniczak netted in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but it came too late to prevent Steaua progressing on away goals. Basel enjoyed the most relaxing outing, with Fabian Frei knocking in a corner after 11 minutes and substitute Philipp Degen scoring with his second touch 11 minutes from the end.Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap JerseysAuston Matthews Jersey ' ' '
A football season can be a long, arduous affair. Diego Lopez Jersey . Practice after practice, meeting after meeting, film session after film session. The days run together and any break from the tedium is much appreciated. In the 2012 season, the Toronto Argonauts had a class clown. Cornerback Ahmad Carroll kept things loose with his razor-sharp sense of humour. If you saw a player laughing so hard that he was on the verge of tears and you asked why he was busting a gut, the answer was usually one word: "Carroll." Then, on October 17th, with the season more than half over and the daily repetition making the day-to-day grind even tougher, a life force unlike any other in the CFL was unleashed on the club. The Argos signed Adriano Belli. Belli was known as a talented, yet sometimes dirty player on the field. His well-deserved off-field reputation was as a person who would do anything to get a laugh. Anything. Head coach Scott Milanovich says that last years arrival of the man known as The Kissing Bandit came at a key time. "Certainly Bellis arrival last year was well-timed" Milanovich told TSN.ca. "At the time, we were struggling and we needed a little levity." Coincidence or not, Bellis added life to the locker room came at the same time the team started to show signs of life as a contender. It lost Bellis first game, then ran off five straight wins en route to a Grey Cup championship. Does the team have a comedic go-to guy this season? In a word, no. "I dont know that you can replace an Ahmad Carroll or a Belli" continued Milanovich. "I dont know if we have that guy, but weve got some guys who, behind closed doors, can at least take a stab at it." Multiple players pointed the finger at members of the linebacking corps as the guys to keep things loose. Robert McCune, Jason Pottinger and Marcus Ball all received more than one mention as the class clown. The latter didnt mind being cited one bit. "Its very important to have a guy to loosen up the load a little bit" said Ball, the teams top defensive player a year ago. "You have meetings most of the work day, youre out here (at practice) battling with big, strong guys, and when coach is yelling at you, you need someone to loosen you up, so those guys help out a locker room and help brighten the day." Who does Ball feel provides the most comic relief? "I dont think its one" continued the linebacker, "I think weve got a handful of guys who can light the locker room up. Khalif (Mitchell), myself, Pottinger and McCune, hes the sleeper." James Yurichuk was with the B.C. Lions a year ago, missing out on the Carroll/Belli experience. Another member of the linebacking corps, Yurichuk was also pointed out as someone who breaks up the monotony of daily routine. That was news to him. "I didnt know they thought about me like that" said the native of Brampton, Ontario. "I always thought it was Pottinger, a.k.a. Dr. Evil, taking on that role. Its a grind out here, so whatever youre able to do to loosen things up and keep spirits high, its good overall for the team. I just try to be myself within the lines and if they laugh, they laugh." Offensive lineman Jarriel King is another newcomer, who added his own sense of humour when asked about how he felt about his teammates. "I got tired of them very early. I stay away from a lot of the guys, Im a loner" deadpanned King, before talking about how important it is to keep things loose. "We just have fun a lot" King told TSN.ca. "Thats the best thing you can do during a long season like this. With bodies aching and everything, you just have to come to a common ground and just have some fun. As much as you would think that we do stay away from each other (away from the locker room), we kind of do stay together. Its the camraderie, but we joke around a lot." King pointed to Ball and McCune as being the "big two" when it came to comedic relief. They may not be as outrageous as Carroll and Belli were, but may be equally important to the disposition of the team as it attempts to repeat as Grey Cup champions. Gustavo Gomez Jersey . Laudrup revealed Thursday he was notified of his dismissal in "the briefest of letters which gave no reasons why such hasty and final action was deemed necessary. Gabriel Paletta Jersey . -- The goal posts lying flat on the field, Arizonas fans lingered on the field, congregating around the locker room entrance nearly 30 minutes after rushing out of the stands. http://www.acmilansoccershop.com/c-15-ignazio-abate-ac-milan-fc-jersey.aspx . Brazilian national coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has confirmed that the veteran goalkeeper is set to join Toronto on loan, saying it will help him be ready for the World Cup.Team Canada has yet to announce who will be the seventh defenceman for their quarter-final game on Wednesday, but it sounds like whomever fills the role will not see the ice much. Canadian head coach Mike Babcock told Arpon Basu of NHL.com that his top six defenceman are set and whether its P.K. Subban or Dan Hamhuis in the lineup, neither will get much playing time. "Weve got three really good pairs," Babcock told NHL.com on Monday. "Ill be honest with you, Hamhuis and P.K. havent got muchh of a chance. Juraj Kucka Jersey. I mean the pairs are good. There hasnt been any changing of players there just because theyve been real solid." Babcock seems content with his pairings of Duncan Keith with Shea Weber, Marc-Edouard Vlasic with Drew Doughty and Jay Bouwmeester with Alex Pietrangelo. Hamhuis dressed for Canadas 3-1 win over Norway and played just 3:58 minutes in the 2-1 overtime win over Finland. Nathan Burns added three assists. Broncos goaltender Eetu Laurikainen made 35 saves for his third shutout of the season. Bishop Sankey, the national leader in yards rushing per game, barely broke a sweat against the Bengals (2-1) of the FCS. Sankey saw action on the Huskies (3-0) first three series and scored on a 3-yard TD run in the first quarter. Sankey finished with 77 yards on four carries. Price played a little more than 1 1/2 quarters, throwing TD passes of 1, 6 and 5 yards and adding a 1-yard TD run as the Huskies led 42-0 at halftime. It was the second straight season the Huskies overwhelmed a lower division opponent in the first half. Last year, Washington led Portland State 45-0 at halftime. Washington has won its first three games for the first time since 2001 when it started 4-0. The team reopened Husky Stadium by dominating Boise State, earned its first non-conference road win since 2007 by winning at Illinois last week, and got backups playing time against the Bengals. The real test for Washington begins next week when Arizona visits Seattle to open Pac-12 play. It starts a brutal four-game stretch to conference play that is followed by a game at Stanford, home for Oregon, and at Arizona State. That upcoming challenge, as much as the opponent, was the reason Sankeys day was so limited. Washington coach Steve Sarkisian said earlier this week the 35 carries Sankey had against Illinois were too many. Sankey had runs of 36, 3, 16 and 22 yards before calling it a day and turn the running load over to a deep stable of backups. Fernando Torres Jersey. Jesse Callier had an 8-yard TD run in the first quarter, but Coopers first TD was the highlight. Cooper scored on a 4-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter with the remaining crowd erupting in cheers. Cooper was a highly regarded recruit coming out of high school and has come back from three ACL injuries. Saturday was the most extensive action of his career against the Bengals with 14 carries for 59 yards. Freshman John Ross also got to show off his speed, taking a screen pass from Cyler Miles 57 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter. Miles ended up Washingtons leading rusher with 89 yards on four carries. The Huskies 680 total offensive yards were second-most in school history. But Sarkisian will have plenty to bark about. Washington was sloppy with penalties for the second straight week with two touchdowns called back. The Huskies were penalized 16 times. Idaho State lost its 19th straight game to FBS opponents and hasnt knocked off a higher-division squad since beating Utah State in 2000. The Bengals were coming off a pair of wins over Division II opponents, and Justin Arias began the day as the FCS leader in yards passing per game at 434. But the Bengals undersized offensive line couldnt match Washingtons power and speed, and Arias was under pressure all afternoon. He was sacked five times in the first half and missed on his first six passes before finding Broc Malcolm on a 5-yard completion early in the second quarter.
